Also just an idea when it comes to the children: I'd say naming the "The Child" until a certain age then send them out on a trial (with another colonist so you don't lose them) and give them a task like kill the enemy and if the child passes the trial they can earn an actual name but if the child fails then they remain being called "The Child"

I've always wanted to see a full blown mechanoid series reminds me of terminator or a lost game called Robot Ev3_
There are some mods that add even more brutal and over the top mechs that will just walk over your normal colony.
