How to Make Your Own Dice Set | Liquid Core Dice

- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- In this video I go over MY process for creating the magical swirly dice that everyone is going crazy for these days!
I know that the process that I go through is far different from the other makers as far as I can tell, but I think I get decent results overall. Just be careful when using UV resin, and be really careful when using a pressure pot on enclosed spaces like the glass orb that I use for my process, it can be dangerous.
The combination of glitter effects and the liquid swirls makes for some seriously cool looking dice! This is far and away my favorite d&d dice that I have ever made. Having a Wish specific dnd dice makes me happy! I can now also use it to bring back my wife, which is an added bonus I guess. Good to have her back.

“Hey, missed you.” One would think she’d be a little more angry when she got back lol. I guess that just shows what a great person your wife is.
Oh she's the best. She would NEVER sacrifice anyone for a soul stone
Na, it's passive aggressive jaja
what's the story behind the whole sacrificing his wife thing? I see it all over this channel and it seems interesting.
Alastor But With a Gun he made an infinity stone dice set and of course to obtain the soul stone you have to sacrifice that which you love most. So he started an arc about how he sacrificed his wife to be able to make his soul stone die and this was the end of it.
I like how she wasn’t mad at all when you wished her back.. sacrifice must be a norm at the Rybonator household
Everybody knows that Rybonator and Sacrifice goes together like Goblins and Dice.
@@Rybonator who said dice
Where are the dice??
As corny of a joke as that wish spell was, I love it! Feel free to include your wife in on any future skits like that. It was actually well worth the wait :-)
Now that she is alive again, I'll happily include her :)
@@Rybonator u better
"I will implement gold into anything and everything I can in my life" finally someone who GETS it
It is in fact my passion to bring gold to all the good people in the land :P
Big Pharaoh energy
My first thought when he said that was 'this man is a dragon'.
Ah! Put myrrh in the orb, ground frankincense in the resin, and gold painted numbers.
God-Emperor Approved™
I'd love to see this with mineral oil and say drops of red water! You could get a cool bloody lava lamp type of effect!.
OHhh that's a great idea :)
@@Rybonator It may alter the balance of the dice a tiny bit though, so experiment with different ratios of oil and water and test the dice extensively if you're gonna do it.
I love this idea!
You can test any dice by floating them in saltwater.
Won't the oil and water emulsify after a while, though?
I'm really curious about how this affects the roll result distribution.
I plan to test it in a future video testing dice fairness! As well as how weighted dice really effect your rolls :)
I wonder that too
I'm guessing with how well he gets the air out it should be pretty fair. Even with a little air I'd think because that little bit is free to move it shouldn't really effect how random it is (at least that's my theory lol)
@@jessicaglovsky5704 depends how centered the ball is and how the density of the resin compares to the ball.
@@scottchristofersen2367 very valid point! Didn't think of that
I think if you added a little bit of glycerin it would make the glitter suspend longer and swirl better! Overall it looks great :)
That's a great idea. I will give that a go for sure!
That's a classic trick if you've ever made your own snowglobes :)
Adding nitroglycerin adds a nice blast as well
@@Rybonator Hey, Seriously Creative does resin shakers and she uses a little piece of clear plastic to cap her holes, so the resin can seal on the first go. You may want to take a peek, she seems to have a method down pat.
Hey there! Quick question - for the glycerin thing would it be the food grade kind from the grocery store? Also would it be instead of water or in addition to the water? Im really looking to try this out!!!!
Knowing me, I'd paint the orbs to look like pokeballs before putting them in the dice lol.
These look so cool, btw.
Don't tempt me frodo. I can have a gold+silver set and a pokeball set haha :)
@@Rybonator Do it.
The power of random internet people compels you!
It would be interesting to have a pokeball inside a glass orb that’s only slightly bigger, that way the pokeball could roll freely inside the dice
Livi Hand how would you put the Pokéball inside the glass orb. T opening is tiny af.
Bianca Brooks maybe not glass, but you can get tiny fillable Christmas ornaments that open like gacha capsules
That silver and gold dice is so gorgeous, I need to get my hands on some resin so I can make myself a version with holographic glitter!
Oh absolutely! That would look spectacular :)
Congrats on your wife's Resurrection as for the gold an silver both looked amazing
It's good to have her back :) Thank you!
Took some trial and error, but that came out really nice! Also, congrats on the return of your wife.
Worth the effort in the end :) And yeah she's ok I guess ;)
"I will implement gold into anything and everything I can in my life" Same, gold is awesome. Also the dice are really cool
Gold is 100% my aesthetic
Hahaha! Yeah your wife is back! Now you have the power of the soul stone and the wish spell! YOU'RE UNSTOPPABLE!
The universe is whatever I make it ;D
I really like that you're one of the only channels I know that consistently shows every failure.
I too am a fan of Pokemon silver! These dice look amazing! I’m glad you got your wife back lol
Me too, really missed her ya know? :) Also thank you!
*gasp* You did iiiit! Congrats! When my molds are done and I get some orbs and UV resin, I'm totally trying it out! Maybe try with different liquids and see where I can get.
Edit: I made the molds differently, btw. I made a silicone base in a cup, waited for it to cure completely and then put more silicone and the die. When done I take it out and cut one of the sides carefully to not hurt the die and the top number! This way I can reuse the dice for molds AND don't need to go through the whole scraping process at the end (especially bc I don't have that much time and patience DX)
Sounds like you are using Squish molds! Those are really popular :) I still need to give them a shot sometime!
Also thank you :D
that sounds like a really interesting process, is there a tutorial you used?
Hey, fledgling dice maker here. Your tutorials are incredibly helpful, easy to follow, informative, and fun to watch. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thank you for the kind words :) I truly appreciate hearing that
These look so amazing! Also this might sound a bit wild, but a good tip for getting a good cover with the uv resin is to freeze the ball after you fill it with glitter and water. This will give you a solid base to cure the resin on so it doesn’t fall in and the result will be the same after the water melts. This is also useful for a project similar to this on a bigger scale.
Oh that's a good idea! I would be afraid of the glass cracking, but I can give it a shot for sure :) Glad you like 'em!
Would the ice end up expanding outside the glass since you have to fill the orb to the brim? Would the glass break?
Water expands when it freezes you wouldn't be able to fully fill the ball.
Sorry, I forgot about the ball being glass when I commented so I’m not sure if that’s will be a major problem.
Water expands when freezing, sure. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will expand enough to break the glass or anything. Given glass has some strength after all; it could likely withstand a very small amount of water expanding a very small amount.
Could run the numbers and that wouls.give you a good guess as to if it can withstand it, if ya gonna try
Who else expected the intro to be like "What is going on my aesthetic boys its fresh"
Haha Yeah it's a pretty common track
Your work makes my inner dice goblin happy.
That's my entire goal :)
Yay! You have your wife back!
As I was watching this, I was thinking that it would be cool to maybe get some leag-shaped confetti to put in the sphere for an autumn-themed die.
So glad to have her back :) It get's lonely ya know?
Ohh that would make for some awesome fall dice!
I love that you show failures in your videos. Makes it more educational. Subscribed.
I've got plenty more fails where that came from ;D
Also thank you for subbing :)
It is a great feeling making something yourself. The feeling of accomplishment when you have worked out all the flaws through trial and error. To be able to sit back and look at the finished product. I love that feeling.
I am glad you show the flaws as well. Even the mistakes look good, they have their own character.
Absolutely! It's an expensive hobby to get started in, but there's just something about creating it yourself that makes it magical :)
I've seen people freeze water to add resin to close. this dice looks amazing. glad your wife's not mad.
I've heard that might work, I just have doubts. As well, it'd be hard to find a 16mm spherical ice mold haha
@@Rybonator you could always start with a 1 inch cube and melt it down lol.
I was thinking it could help you close your sphere and get a good closer without any bubbles.

As a long time fan of your making skills; I have been absolutely enjoying your entire dead wife bit and find this resolution to it to be perfect and totally deserving of such fantastic dice.
I truly enjoy when makers have a little fun and tell some stories as they go. It's what makes me love both yours and Peter Brown's videos so much.
A little reoccurring shtick makes it all that much more enjoyable to long time fans. Wife reveal was well worth the wait.
Honestly being compared to Peter Brown has made my day :) I love his videos and have been a long time fan. One of my goals would be to do a collaboration video with that awesome fella!
Glad you like what I put out there :) I truly appreciate you taking the time to watch.
Yes the glitterdice! Thank you for taking the time to make them! And now your wife's back so it's a double win!
Really I couldn't have asked for better results all around haha
Thank you for taking the time to post these videos, I really appreciate you breaking things down and showing a process that includes mistakes instead of how some others do it with a flawless one try. Your dice are beautiful and your videos are great to watch.
Thank you for saying that :) I am glad that you like my process AND my failures haha. It's the best way to learn! :)
Glad you finally got your wife back, and that she isn't too mad about the whole sacrifice for some dice thing XD. Also that die is gorgeous! I love the how silver swirl is accented by the gold.
She get's it. She understands that it had to be done. She's great.
Also thank you haha :) Glad you like it! I'm always a fan of the gold numbers.
Once I saw you bought these. I knew it was only a matter of time before there was a process for making them. Good job, you nailed it.
I am glad that they turned out so well! Was really afraid of messing it up haha
@@Rybonator You did a fantastic job, I'm learning to make dice from your videos for what it's worth! :)
this is def my fav dice youve made so far, its beautiful!
Thank you! Me too :) It's just got a magical look to it
I HAVE NEVER CLICKED ON A VIDEO SO FAST. Great job Ryan! This is actually the exact process I had in mind for these, so it's good to know it's not more complicated than I thought! I've also heard you can use isopropyl alcohol for the liquid too.
I was affraid of that evaporating before I could get it filled and leaving a bubble, but I've heard water + alcohol is a great combo for swirls :) Can't wait to see how you give it a shot!
Yay! Your wife is back!
Also, absolutely love the dice 😍
Me too, Missed her a bit I guess :P
Glad you like them! Thanks :)
Hahahahaha! I LOVE that ending! So happy you got your wife back though, now you have extra hands to help you with all your cool crafts, these dice are AWESOME!
Really lucked out with that Nat 20 roll I guess :) Thank you!
Oh my gosh y'all are cute 😊 thank you for the laugh!
The fails were very cool to see. The dice with the water bubbles reminded me of the eye dice where the iris stays up (but like, spider eyes I guess!) The gold die with the blue ink is seriously pinging my "unique dice are interesting" radar, haha! And of course the final result was amazing. Thank you for sharing everything with us!
Oh she's the cute one, I just borrow the cuteness haha.
Glad you like seeing the fails too. I got a lot of em :P And yeah the uniqueness of them does make them kinda cool too :)
That's so clever! I love those! They came out really well too!
Thank you! Glad you like them :D
I've seen crafters use pieces of clear tape or clear sheet of plastic to cover the opening in resin shakers, maybe you could give that a try instead of letting it drip into the bulb and trying to cure it before too much of it falls in?
Hmm good call, I'll give that a shot :)
Anyone have a recommendation on where to buy these premade? I don’t have a set up for resin crafting and I’d like to get my fiancée some for Christmas. 😃
Check out Dr. BellCookie Games, they are doing preorders for similar styles soon :)
This would be a great gift idea for my husband and his brothers. We're all huge Tabletop geeks. Thank you so much for sharing this! :)
Oh absolutely it would! :)
These look great! I am making the potion bottles from the DMG and have been experimenting with all kinds of liquids and glitter, mica powders, etc. Have you tried using isopropyl alcohol instead of the water? I don't have the exact formula but I find alcohol and a touch of water makes that glitter swirl forever. Thanks for the great videos and tutorials!
I have not tried that! I'll have to give it a shot in the future. I was doing almost straight guess work on the liquid. You probably have a better idea than me :) Thank YOU for the tip!
I'm a mama running on fumes lately - suddenly I have restless legs at night and can't sleep.... your videos are very informative but also soothing and very relaxing for me. This is a hobby I want to get into and I'm enjoying my late night binge sessions
That looks beautiful, it gives off an awesome magical vibe!
Thank you! I like the celestial vibe it gives as well :) Very proud of these!
I’m not sure why I watched this, since I don’t plan on making dice. But I watched the whole thing because I was so fascinated. You explained it very well and I appreciate that you included where you went wrong.
Well I'm glad you like the process even if it's not your thing :) I figured if I include my fails, others can hopefully avoid them!
you did an incredible job. I take my hat off to you on your success.
Thank you my friend! I appreciate that
so I'm obsessed with anything clear. glass sculptures, jewelry, decorations, you name it, because when i was a kid my father would tell me that the clear buttons of my cardigan i absolutely loved were filled with water, but i couldn't see it swirl because they were completely filled up. since then seeing swirly, moving stuff in clear objects has been my most favorite thing and I don't think you have any idea how pleased I am to see your dice. I've seen this video and unhealthy amount of times and I'll never stop 😅
this might sounds odd, but both you and your wife have great voices for narration!
Thank you :) We've been working on them since we were born!
hooooly sheeze! I would love to see you try these again!!! you did amazing honestly and wow- just wow.
I plan to for some of the future classes :)

I'm glad you like the mess-ups :) It's the best way to learn after all! Thanks for subbing :)
as a fellow "pokemon silver and gold are the BEST" fan, I absolutely loved these! don't think I'll attempt making them though, otherwise I'd do nothing all day but shake and swirl them around.

It has become a significant distraction for me now haha. Glad you like them fellow Gold/Silver nerd! :)
Yeah it's nice to have her back. She's cool I guess :P
This is so cool! I'd love to see how it would look with a darker glitter/center and a very light but still colored resin on the outside (like your tesseract set with gold or dark blue glitter in the middle). It's so awesome of you to share this knowledge!
That would actually be pretty awesome :) I'll have to give it a shot!
Glad you like it by the way :)

thanks for making this video! I was really looking forward to seeing how a swirling dice could be made. The silver one looked amazing!
Of course! Glad you like it :)
Maybe you could try a oil and coloured water mix. Dunno if it would look good but it might plus it will have a cool colour separation going on while it waits to be rolled.
Ohh that would be very lava lamp-ey :D
Discovered you only yesterday, super glad I did!

Then: your favorite Pokémon Games are Gold and Silver? Now I love your channel even more! Maybe you could do dice with miniatures of each of the starters in them! ☺
Also: I'm glad the soul of your wife is finally free again :'D
I actually planned that at one point haha :) Just trying to find good enough looking tiny pokemon. They have to be REALLY tine to fit in most dice.
Also thank you :D
@@Rybonator if you wanna be rlly mad you could try to sculpt them yourself with polymer clay or something similar xD
But I can also understand that that would be a hell lot more work^^
I just hope you'll find fitting miniatures soon :D
Also: your welcome :'D
Try this with the big-boy dice! Love to see the effect and maybe order one for a desk ornament if they turn out!
Trying to find an equivalent spherical insert of appropriate size :)
Rybonator Awesome! Can’t wait to see it.
Great channel btw. Attempted your dice box for a Christmas gift as a Chess set. Thanks for the idea and tutorial!
I wonder if you could make your resin orb caps away from the orb first, on a surface they don't adhere to, basically just a little dot that you can place on the opening. You could place it over the opening then resin it into place. Might make that capping process easier?
That's not a bad idea! I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get the size right. I know that some people use clear silicone caulking to fill the hole which works well too, but you can see it a bit more.
Im glad you got your wife back.
Haha, I've had a bunch of those glass balls sitting in my Etsy shopping cart because I had the same idea. Good to know it works!
I'm curious about how balanced these are, have you tried them in salt water?
I am certain that the saltwater won't be effective with this set, as it's got so many different materials in it. The best way to test these will just be to roll them a whole bunch. Which I plan to!
@@Rybonator It also occurred to me why people might recommend using mineral oil instead of water - it doesn't expand when it freezes, and it has a WAY higher boiling point than water, so it might not expand and contract as much as water in temperature changes. Water can also grow algae if it's not kept in a dark place. It could be worth trying mineral oil too to see which one stands the test of time better.
@@VGlauren alcohol actually sounds like the best bet. Some everclear would work great.
@@SylviaRustyFae Didn't think of that, good call! Although I wonder if alcohol could corrode any of the additives like the UV resin or glitter

Thank you, I'm quite the popular lady at my dungeons and dragons game nights lately! This is lovely and fairly simple! ☺️❤️
Haha that's awesome :) Glad your group enjoys!
I think youre right, the silver with the gold numbers looks amazing, and that silvery swirling is dreamy !!! 10/10 again :) PS. Great that your wife is part of your "habit" haha...
"Habit" is a nice way to say addiction haha :) Glad you like them!
This was awesome, would love to see more of these "custom dice with stuff in them" videos like this, and the druid one. Maybe some experimentation on how to keep elements staying in the middle and not floating up to the top or sinking to the bottom of the dice. Necro dice with bones in them would be amazing for example, could be attained by cutting up some skeleton miniatures!
Check out my Halloween set for ones with skulls in them ;D
But that would be a good video topic to show how to suspend things in the center more easily. Good idea!
I've been wanting to make dice like this, they're so beautiful! I love the finished product. Are these dice balanced?
This one seems to be so far! Though my testing will be more extensive later.

Damn these are beautiful dice. Now I want a set :(

I only use baby oil in a slower moving resin piece and usually only in the bigger pieces, so I'd use water in these smaller ones too.
This is really cool, thank you!
Good to know! If I upgrade in size, I'll try oil again.
Thanks Mrs G :)
I feel like the water dye would work better if you dye the water before you put it into the orb.
Now that's what SMART people do. You've come to the wrong channel bub.
(Also thanks, that's probably a good idea haha.)
You pulled this off quite well! This was how I was planning to try this as well. :)
Thank you! Great minds think alike I guess :)
Do you think that mixing the water with some glycerin would make a cooler effect?
Some people have suggested that, I wouldn't have even thought about it. I'll have to give it a shot :)
@@Rybonator a lot of homemade snowglobe recipes have glycerin in the mix because it "thickens" the water, making the particles swirl and float longer before settling. should work out for a better effect.
For filling and capping the globes, you might try using a paper egg carton turned upside-down. If you push the bottom inward, it should create a nice cradle for the globe and then you can eliminate the risk of spilling stuff into your molds.
That's a great tip! I'll have to give that a shot :)
Also you’re sooooo good.
No u :)
Also thank you haha :)
There are so many potentially awesome combinations you can do with this. From various alcohol inks and colors of glitter in combination and maybe even see-thru colored resin if that's doable? A really awesome concept for dice. Love it~
THIS IS THE DICE I'VE BEEN DYING FOR XD
Now that you are dead, we can WISH you back to life ;D
Thank you so much for including safety info for working with resin!
Of course :)
i really hoped you used purified water and not tap water for this, thats why people use ababy oil i assume; so it doesn't rot or whatever
Baby oil just doesn't swirl like AT ALL for me. And no I didn't, but I will in the future :)
Best hand modeling of all time!!
How do they roll? The ones you reviewed seemed a bit off balance.
If the orb is in the center, they seem perfectly fine to me, though my testing hasn't been extensive yet. But if they are off center, like my gold one, they are mega weighted.
You're the main reason why me and my Group of friends are going to play our first game tomorrow ❤️
No kidding!? That's awesome :D You're going to love it. Just remember to have fun and lose yourself in the roleplay aspect of it. It's so much more fun when you can just lose yourself in the character :)
