- I was in the process of making some traditional sash windows and thought it might be interesting to show u how I cut the little doors for the weights. I hope this is helpful to someone. 🤙
Cheers Olly
Thanks for making the video. Very informative. Greetings from Bedford.
Always wondered how that last 'cut' was made!
Nice work
Good to see someone showing people how to do stuff with hand tools.
When I'm replacing cords I sometimes see dates written on the back of doors and you can see how some of the joinery was done quite roughly with the minimum use of hand tools and everything was nailed with small cut nails.
Also ive never seen the scupe before.
Hi i always find in interesting when u find s date on the weight doors. nice to see when they were made. The scoop i got for a George Ellis book.
Cheers. 👍
Nice, well done! I like your clear, concise demonstration. I like to make the saw cuts and leave knocking the door out until I've glued the box frame together. Obviously I try to avoid gluing the door to the lining!
Hi thanks. Ha yes ive glued 1 in before 🤣🤣
Surprised you haven’t got a lot more subs.
Decent channel.
Cheers 🍻
The parting bead holds the door in place.
Thats why you cut half way on the parting bead groove.
Been in this tread for 44 years
Yep, this may be will be helpful to me now.
Pocket should be held in by parting and staff beads.
I drill a 1'' hole in the back half the depth of the board at the end of the saw cut and the centre of the parting bead groove. Gives you somewhere to saw into
Please show us how to make the whole sash window! I want to make some and need as much help as I can get! LOL.
I would love to. But it would be very time consuming. Building sash window is a long process. 👍 Check out Bradshaw joinery
@@listerjoinery Ha ha! Already watched Olivers sash window videos about a hundred times....
@@listerjoinery It is a long process, but I'd watch you make it for sure!
Don't you have some video, how to make a traditional sash window step by step?
Hi no I have done a vid on a complete sash window build yet.
Don't have enough time at the moment 🤣
@@listerjoinery don't you have any suggestions for a course that teaches how to make a traditional sash window? I would appreciate it very much because I am planning to do some.
@@sync3680 I'm pretty sure that there is an episode of the woodrights shop with Roy Underhill that covers making a sash window. You might need to buy it though. Good luck!
@@jonathanellis8921 thanks.
@Dsales Checkout Bradshaw Joinery. He does really detailed videos on Sash construction from initial measurements to finished. He uses commercial machines but he gives loads of useful tips along the way.
Have you got any blueprints for this ?
Hi no blue prints its all in my head. George ellis does a good book have a look. 👍

Ok thanks 👍
do they break out of hardwood the same ?
Hi yes if the grain is straight.
Not so well in my experience with sappele hardwood
How much will you charge to do custom size windows such as these?
Hi these are 1800 with single glazing.
Hard to...it is a sash pocket. Use a backsaw. Sash pocket chisel. Or, just cut a top and bottom splayed joint.
