I think this is true for all of us going plant based, and there is a very legit reason. Milk contains casomorphins... an opioid peptide derived from the digestion of the milk protein casein, that acts on the same receptors as any other opioid like morphine, heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine etc. It's theorized that this insures that the infant is enticed and rewarded for feeding on it's mothers milk to insure survival and growth. Since cheese is at least 10X as concentrated as milk, it's so hard to give up because it is quite literally addictive!
@@bryant475 For me it was very motivating to know it wasn't just my own psychological cravings and "weakness" that was sabotaging my efforts, but an inherent biological dependence that needed to be fought, overcome, then avoided, like any addiction. The closest I've come to an oil free butter sub is dry- blending a scant 1/2 cup of corn meal and 1 heaping TBS of cashews or hemp hearts into a powder, (you can also add a dash of garlic and/or onion powder, and turmeric for color) and if you have a heat safe blender, then add 2 cups of boiling salted water directly into the powder and blend on high for 3-4 minutes. Nice one, cashews are known to be somewhat toxic so they are usually always treated/heated or processed in some way cause raw is toxic. I would use macadamia nuts instead. Thanks for this, Wanted to make vegan gluten free pizza but those supermarket fake vegan cheeses are terrible full of artificial ingredients and chemicals.
Is it safe to eat raw cashews? Truly raw cashews are not safe to eat, as they contain a substance known as urushiol, found in poison ivy. Urushiol is toxic, and contact with it can trigger a skin reaction in some people. Cashew kernels are often sold as “raw” in stores, but these have been steamed. This removes the toxins.
Trying this one as well. I'm inspired. I've been researching for almost 2 years now. I know of a lot of nutritious foods but not how to make recipes like yours!

When I can't get agar I like to use oat and chickpea flour as thickeners. I add boiling water directly into all ingredients in my heat rated blender and run for a few minutes until the motor slows a bit, at which point I refrigerate to set. (Or else just cook on the stove if your blender isn't rated). It won't set as firm as using agar, but more like the texture of brie or camembert.
@@CharGC123 Never heard if that, very interesting. Thanks for sharing that tip!
@@sarahdee374 Just be careful adding hot liquids to the blender, it needs to vent the hot steam or it can blow off the lid and cause burns.
@@CharGC123 amazing - thank you!!
Love this recipe. You make them look very easy to do. I've tried your breakfast oatmeal cookies as well. Such a great recipe.
Thank you!
Dude! I just found your channel. I want to eat at your house! Thank you! Awesome!
😄
Trying this one as well. I'm
inspired. I've been researching

I super love ❤️ all your recipes (except for recipes w/jackfruit 😆). Thank you for taking the plant-based lifestyle to the next level!!
I have be vegan on/off since 1984. In 2017, I made a commitment to myself to go & stay completely plant-based. In 2021, I went whole-food plant-based. And I feel better & better all the time.
I will be 62 in August, and this is the best I have EVER felt in my life!

That is beautiful cheese! I bet, adding a little bit of liquid smoke to it would be yummy. Possibly a little turmeric would be healthy and give it some color.
This is such a great recipe! I’ve made it several times and has been the closest to real cheese I’ve had so far! I even added jalapeños in one of my blocks and olives into another to change up the flavor!
Love the creativity! That sounds delicious!
