    For me it was the seamoth solar charger. I'm never taking that thing far enough away from my base for long enough to need to replace the power cell. By the time I can even get the upgrade, the battery situation is already taken care of by the moonpool you fabricate the upgrade with.

      Another useless item in subnautica: the compass. I'll admit, it's useful when you're new, but if you're already somewhat familiar with the game you won't need it. You can get along just fine by using the aurora and your lifepod as reference points.

    This video is the perfect reason for the star rating vs like/dislike. I don't dislike the video. I appreciate the effort and thoughts that went into it. I do dislike the narrow focus and incorrect info about the hull upgrade. I never use the stasis gun. The still suit is good for when you are exploring in the PRAWN because you can always use the knife to get cooked food.
    The propulsion Cannon is also good for launching flares/ distractions.
    The radiation suit is really the only useless item. After fixing the reactor leaks, you never need it again.

  • @MeMyselfAndK
    @MeMyselfAndK 2 роки тому +23

    How to use all of these items practically in-game:
    1. Repulsion Cannon can actually be used for a useful late-game tech. In the Lava Zone biomes, Lava Leaches will be a problem or just plain annoying (especially to players who do not have/not yet crafted thermal reactor module), and will stick to your Cyclops. You can use the Repulsion Cannon to blast Lava Leaches off your Cyclops from the *inside*, without having to go outside. Simply look at your Cyclops hologram, aim and/or move to the appropriate location, and fire to blast them away.
    2. Stillsuit can be used well because it does something that you can take advantage of mid-game; a (semi) stable water supply at the cost of food. On my runs that I *have* use the stillsuit vs. the runs I haven't, I've found that the reinforced dive suit provides less utility the more you avoid taking damage due to experience and playerskill, and at that point, the Stillsuit just becomes a viable bonus to your basically stock character as opposed to the Reinforced Dive Suit. RDS is for emergency safety, and Stillsuit is for emergency endurance in case you miscalculate how much water you need. (You can't thermal blade to get reliable water.)
    3. When a Reaper Leviathan charges your Seamoth or PRAWN Suit into the terrain, the Hull Reinforcement will protect against that. You can use this to prevent your Seamoth from getting one or even two-shot by a Leviathan, and escape by using your Seamoth as a decoy via purposefully getting grabbed, using a Stasis Rifle to trap the leviathan, and escape. This can give you a "second chance" if you miss. Niche, but it works in that specific scenario, and if you're playing a monster slayer playstyle, it may prove effective.

      About the lava larva, i usually wait till i get a ton of them on my cyclops and make them go away with the cyclops shield or whatever it was called, it instabtly gets rid of those critters and with the thermal reactor you charge it back pretty quick, and even without the thermal reactor im the kind of person who has a chest full of power cells right besides my engine just in case i run low on power

    • @ForTheBrotherhood
      @ForTheBrotherhood 2 роки тому

      In mid-game you already have plants, plus the stillsuit costs a lot, it's unlocked too late, gives the same amount of water as a bladderfish.

    • @MeMyselfAndK
      @MeMyselfAndK 2 роки тому +1

      @@ForTheBrotherhood A few counter-points:
      First of all, this is automatic. It requires nothing but the item and an empty inventory. Having this on your character gives you 40 water daily, which, even if it gives you the very minimal penalty of 6 food, is good for optimising how much time you're spending crafting, acting more as luxury.
      Second, without the reinforced dive suit, there's no point in *not* putting one on. Having it on your character is, in itself, beneficial just due to mere presence, and the Stillsuit helped me greatly when beating the game without the Cyclops.
      And finally, crafting water and such takes power while growing food takes time. The Stillsuit is free of these two constraints, constantly active without power consumption.
      The point that this isn't a very good item late-game is very sound, however, I'm trying to demonstrate the benefits, not explain why it's fully optimal or needed in every playthrough (which, admittedly, it isn't).

  • @Celisar1

    The still suit is quite usefull. Not every player likes the cyclops. I did most of the lower levels in my prawn and was glad to have the still suit.
    The hull reinforcement module is very good before you get the defense module. The reinforcement has saved my seamoth more than once in an encounter with a leviathan. (Don’t know why Wikipedia thinks it doesn’t help there when it clearly does.)
    So in summary: Just because YOU don’t need something in your play style doesn’t mean it is useless!

    I’d say the most useless items in the history of Subnautica are the flair, cave finder tool and the hand-held expandable bladder kit. Everything else in the game I’ve gotten some use with. Even with items as dumb as the sea moth daylight charger, it still has some use for players starting out. All three items he listed in this video I can say for sure are not the most useless items in the game. They aren’t necessary bad, but are simply outclassed by other options. Yes, the stasis rifle is pretty much a better version of the repulsion cannon, but by that same token, saying that the repulsion cannon is the worst thing in the game because the stasis rifle exists is just bad logic.
    Same gos for the still suit. Now, if this was a list just talking about equipment you WEAR, then I would agree that it’s the worst of the suits, but considering the entire pool of useless shit in the game, I’d hardly put it anywhere close to the bottom.
    As for the hull reinforcement, I could get behind that statement. Since the only thing it works on is the sea moth, its use goes down significantly. And at some point in the game, we all stop using the sea moth and just use the Spider-Man grapple arm on the prawn suit to travel.
    I agree with your statements said about each item you listed in this video, but your reasoning for putting them in those spots I do not agree with at all.

      Since the devs have added the Large Multipurpose room from Below Zero into Base Subnautica, they should also add the Functionality that the Air Bladder has in BZ, into Subnautica 1.
      They should also tweak a few other things like showing the bar on the side of an item to show its battery percentage without having to hover over the item, as well as the freshness for any spoilable food items.
      And the way that the Seaglide has two separate buttons for turning off the map, and turning off the spotlight.
      Oh, and the Recyclotron. That one should definitely be added into Sub1. It was so convenient being able to store larger amounts of Titanium, Copper, Silver, etc, since you could just convert it back to its base form in the Recyclotron

    I did the lava zones without reinforced diving suit on my first playthrough, I used the still suit instead. The damage is not that high, and 99% of the time I'm inside a vehicle anyway so the heat didn't matter. The still suit was certainly handy. It wasn't a HUGE game changer but I wouldn't call it useless.

    • @Benesato

      Air Bladder it then most misunderstood. Most don't know what it's for. It's a life vest, so when you're about to drown and you're 200m deep, seconds left, you pop the device. You will black out like always, but the game brings you to the surface, and your HP takes the dmg. Instead of losing a hardcore game, or your progress, you find yourself top side with little hp, but alive.

  • @Benesato
    @Benesato 2 роки тому +1

    I've beaten this game so many times, vanilla, modded, and never without hunger/thirst. I can't say I agree with this list in any way.
    The Prop cannon: While it's really a stepping stone to the next, don't forget that this game was made after Sandy Hook, and they wanted a gun less game. This is a relatively early "gun" that repels any activity hostile mob, giving you precious seconds to escape, and is used in exploration. It's resources are minimal and possibly less time to construct then having to replay from a save when you get turned into chum.
    StillSuit can be replaced with certain fish (*cough*containment farms*cough*)but the Stillsuit mixed with the Thermal knife takes away all the difficulty from intake survival. Is it as useful as the deep dive? No. But poking about your bases and building them, basically mundane tasks it takes one consistantly out the mix. Also, Water Purification Stations require constant energy and interaction to keep production, (late game I find myself with a multi room with 6 for aesthetics. That's overkill, one works fine) the one thing everyone also forgets is the suit isn't a diving suit. It doesn't require being in water to work. Thus it's the perfect option for use if your just walking about.
    It doubles your water meter in usage, by producing half a days needed water for free. (Charge suit requires both active swimming and holding the item, but like the still, this just also adds to longevity but to tools)
    Armor plating: I have 2 or 3 Seamoths easy mid game. One's for farming, and this is just a straight forward added passive defense, doesn't require you to activate, and may give you time to get into your moth while it's being attacked. It's also very cheap considering the tech and find location.
    Here's some other commonly hated item's:
    Inflatable Air Bladder.. those most misunderstood item in game. When do you need a self contained instant air container? When you pull the string on your lifejacket so you don't drown in the ocean. Air bladder is the same concept, except tailored to the games danger, drowning. Small 1 slot item, and your 200 meters down with 6 seconds left of breath. As you lose oxygen you begin to black out.. but you don't die. How many have breached the surface and thought you cheated death? You did, but have you ever popped an Air Bladder and have it bring you to safety at 10% hp? That's cheating death, or giving you a possible continue on a Hardcor playthrough.
    Pathfinder Tool: I dont need it in 1, BZ it's useful in the underwater root caves, but honestly for a first time player this shit will help fight another dangerous life ender.. lost inside the dead hull of a submerged shipwreck. Established players know the roots, first time players will most likely die once in the playthrough due to thus. Also, sections of the Aurora.
    To me in all my time, the only and most useless items in game (non cosmetic/decoration) are the Air Pump and pipes. If it allowed the connection of close based with survival capabilities (off sight house with no power) it would be great, but honestly why does it exist in release build? You put it on the base, which takes a few seconds to just open the hatch or swim into the moonpool.. the mats are dirt cheap, but honestly best allocated elsewhere.

      If it’s “too OP” to negate the need to bring water with you, at the cost of not being able to wear the Reinforced Divesuit, then I’m sorry but it’s just a trash piece of equipment.
      Besides, it’s only found in locations that are MEANT to be explored in the latter stages of Mid Game, or even the Late Game. (Yes, I know you CAN just run directly there, right after you get a Seaglide, and have it for the early game, where it arguably performs the best)
      But just giving you +20 H2O every 12 hours is simply not worth being worn over the Reinforced Suit. And it’s also not worth keeping it in my inventory to swap between the two, due to how many inventory spaces it takes up.
      I’ll concede that it negating the need to produce more water isn’t exactly balanced, but then it should produce water at 90% the speed that you dehydrate, therefore allowing you to do what a Water Reclamation suit should do, and that’s stave off dehydration without being able to fully prevent it.

    I'd disagree with stillsuit. As a person who prefers mobility ond good view, seaglide/seamoth were my way to go almost everywhere up to the crush depth of the seamoth and even then I made long tours from that point with seaglide and 2 airtanks. Thus ability to partly replenish water and have more space to collect i.e resources was great. Even in lava zone without loitering too much and some medkit use I was able to use it.
    I had no use for solar charger for seamoth, as it has only 4 upgrade slots. Pathfinder - useless. Cyclop decoy system? I've never fired one.
    Somebody mentioned airbladder - I used it quite a lot to rush for the surface with empty tanks. But I often made recon dives hundreds o meters down just with 2 tanks, seaglide and charging fins - unbelievable fun.

      If you ever play with mods, Nexus has a mod gives you a seamoth upgrade to let it fly. Give that a spin, cyclops does give a boss feeling, but flying a seamoth makes you feel free.

    Unpopular opinion- the cyclops is useless. The sea moth can travel faster and you can equip 4 storage containers on it to move stuff. The orawn suit is also faster and with the grappling arm, can go faster than the sea moth.
    The cyclops is slow, cant turn quickly, still easily gets destroyed,runs out of power quickly, cant fit in lots of areas, and isnt necessary because the moon pool is better. There is no practical use for it.

    Nah i couldnt disagree with this more (aside from repulsion cannon which is more for fun than anything else, though i still wouldnt call it one of the most useless)
    Stillsuit is incredibly useful for tedious, non dangerous tasks. I can't say its necessarily a lifesaver to any degree other than the early game, and I do believe the reinforced divesuit is better overall, but I still used it later in the game depending on what i was doing purely for convenience as i often was confident in my ability to dodge charging enemies and such (even when i dont see them). It's nice to not need to make more trips to your cyclops or other water storage. And like you mentioned in the video i believe that the stillsuit is not only good in the early/mid game but is much better than any of the other options at that point.
    Hull reinforcement isnt a great upgrade BUT it is incredibly easy to get and quite useful for how stupidly easy it is to craft. While i would agree that its pretty damn useless on a prawn suit and especially once you get better upgrade options, but at a point in the game, i do believe it is optimal to get one once you get a seamoth.
    Here's the actual most useless items in the game:
    Pathfinder tool: i genuinely tried to use this in my playthroughs, but its just not a very good item and would take the extra inventory space any day. Most of the time when exploring caves/wrecks you dont need it anyways, but when you DO need it it usually doesnt do a great job of guiding you unless you are a incredibly thorough with your markings.
    Air Bladder: Kinda sucks that its so useless since they actually did give it a use in below zero. I believe its slower to bring you up in normal subnautica, but in below zero they have the option to use it for extra O2 which is infinitely more useful than bringing you up faster. I actually had this in my inventory for the majority of my playthrough of below zero just for that extra oxygen.
    Flares: I wont lie as a throwable light source they do a good job of adding to the scary atmosphere of the game and are accessible immediately, but in terms of utility they are far worse than the flashlight or just the seaglide. I do like that they are the first light source you get, having immediate access to it at the start of both games, but the fact that its rendered useless within the first 5 minutes by the flashlight is honestly kinda impressive (and i already consider the flashlight to be amongst some of the most useless items, but i do recognize it has its place in the game).
