Nightwish does always deliver, they're not my go to band, but everytime I hear them i'm down for it. Very captivating! 😏👍

Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the premiere, but I've already heard the song and seen the video countless times. I think it's an absolutely gorgeous song with a truly thoughtprovoking message. It's one of those songs that get better every time you listen to it and you hear new things with every listen. In my opinion the mixing is done really well. To make Floor's voice part of the instrumentation and choir was a deliberate choice. The production team was very happy with the mix, which was confirmed by Mika Jussila. This song is all about the unbroken chain of ancestry which had to be formed for us to be alive today. We are part of the chain, one with many past generations and that's what you hear in the chorus. Perfect, in my opinion.

This epic piece of music grows on you...on me at least. No problem with the mixing..I compleatly trust in Tuomas skills and why he decided to not have Floor in front of the mix all the time. Works for me and after a few listen you hear the lyrics without any problems because you know the lyrics. Great to se your reaction Anna. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.❤

I know. I dont think Tuomas or Nightwish has any issues.
To be clear, people have some issues with the mix ,NOT with the song. It really is another masterpiece on Tuomas his account. People said it was a concious or artistic, somewhat phylosophical choise ,to let Floor blend in the choirs with the intend to make Floor part of "the ancesters"in the background. It could also be a smart choise from Tuomas(main producer) to somewhat,force us,to listen multiple times and dive (no pun) deeper in the lyrics. This or some of it could well be true but, i heard some remixes with Floor's elevated voice and i really have to say, she sings it beautifully and gives the song for me a bit more epic feeling.
It's just are some parts for me ,in general the mix is great. Remixes can never be better if they are not done from the master tapes,so they give some insight of how it could give the voice a bit more clarity. That said,can't wait to hear this live ,some day in the future.🤘

Four lines (2 times each chorus) are repeated seven times..... repetition that makes an imprint in the ole auditory grey matter....good for my simple mind Counting back my kin till I run into that "genealogical paradox" and find out that whoever is reading this is related to me. I've heard others comment on the same with floor's voice but i also read that Tuomas wanted her voice to blend more with the choir on this track, not sure if thats true or not. the dream of many ancestors ... to me makes my life seem precious in the greater scheme of life, (not that i don't think so already lol). but we should do as much as we are able with this gift not just throw it away. even if what we do is for our nearest and dearest as the song shows us that can change the world too.

Hi Anna. Regarding the mix of Floors voice in the chorus.... There is a statement from Kai about this decision:
"She is part of the choir. It is not meant to be super loud in the chorus. Just part of all the voices. Some people propably don’t like it that way but it is what it is."
And as he says... Some like it, some dont. It is a subject for much discussion 😅
However.... Nice reaction. I looked forward to it 😊
Actually, Floor has been the lead singer of the band for some time, and a good one if you ask me, and she is supposed to be so. That's why they have a (lead) singer! Everything else is probably a bad choice on Tuomas' part. I wonder, how much do you know about Nightwish's music (just a question, no pun intended)? Kind regards.

Such a beautiful and thoughtful reaction and analysis. You are only the second reactor to pick up on the fact that Tuomas used the same melody in the vocals as was introduced in the beginning of the song and also Floor moving between head and chest voice in the verse. This is why I so look forward to your videos. It is the technical analysis combined with appreciation for emotion and great art. I think this whole song is a reminder to all of us of what a miracle each of us are and that we need to make the most of it. Also it is a reminder that we need to care for each other in a personal way. For me it feels like a continuation of the theme of the Greatest Show on Earth and Ad Astra.

Nightwish dont dissapoint "did you feel the ghost energy song"
I listened to this song maybe 50 times by now, and it is one i like to listen to with my headphones or without, its really a good song, when i can do so to me.
Some say Floors voice is low in the mix, and i can agree its hard to get all words she sing, but if you look at it soundwise it sounds amazing!! and after a listen or 2, you know most of lyrics, and its no problem at all, its done fully on purpose for the sound experince of it.. cant wait for rest of album!!
Yesterwynde is the opening track on new album, i belive its only like a intro, its a little over 2 min long, #2 on album then is a almost 10 min song, thats proberly another epic!! #3 is where i think they bring in a heavy track, and this Perfume of the timeless is #5.. so i think its gonna be a good mix of heavy songs, Epics, and maybe a full balled..
Perfume of the timeless, well its almonst a ghost energy song right, telling all these ancestors is perfume around in a timeless world, being around you still, also a message that your existens matters!! i feel tuomas also put in a little message that mankind could do better still, Einstein turn to ape..
The title of the album is a word made by band member Troy Donockley, which Holopainen describes as the feeling of time, history, memory, and being connected to past generation, who have "all had their lives, their ups and downs, and they don't exist anymore, except as atoms scattered all over the universe. And we're going to be in that state pretty soon as well. So that should give you something to think about."
Holopainen has described the album as being about humanism, history, and the inspiration thereof, and that outlook of the album is positive and optimistic ]

This is Nightwish NOT Floor and band. If Nightwish presents their music like this, then this is how they want it to sound. You may not like the mix, but that does not make it a "bad" mix.

The closest explanation we have was Kai Hahto's comment in a Facebook chat telling us that they (Tuomas or somebody else?) wanted to have Floor appear as part of the choir instead of solo singer. Ok, so that's a artistic choice but why do that? My best guess would be that it was done to underline the fact that nobody is important alone but we need other people to flourish.

"dream of many ancestors" on aika hankala, koska minä olen uni monen muun unen joukossa. Tarvitsen monta A4 -paperia ja filosofisen aineen (josta saan reippaan 7-), jossa kerron siitä miten en yksilönä ole tärkeä vaan osa ketjua. Jos en fysiologista, niin henkistä sorttia, joka yrittää selvitä tässä maailmassa omana päähenkilönä tottakai. Minun tarinassa kaikki on jotanut tähän hetkeen ja siksi se on tärkeää. Toivon, että jollekkin muullekkin minun tarinani on tärkeä.

Olipahan taas eppinen anthemi Nightwishiltä. Ja video tukee hyvin sanotusta. Varmaan 50 kertaa kuunnellu ja katsonut videon ja joka kerta löytää jotain uutta. Ei siis mitään tusina kamaa. Lisäksi jo muutaman vuoden sukututkimusta tehneenä tää biisi osu ja uppos kuin voi silmään! Veikkaan, että levyllä miksaus kertsissä on parempi ja Floorin ääni on enemmän pinnassa. Kiitos taas Anna❤
Tuomas halusi Floorin äänen osaksi kuoroa kertsissä ja siksi se on siellä taustalla. Myönnän, että aluksi vähän häiritsi, mutta ei enää kun tietää ettei kyse ole mitään miksausongelmasta vaan tietoisesta päätöksestä. Livenä tulee varmasti rokkaamaan jos ja kun sen saamme joskus kokea!

I know this is a channel about vocals in music, but I feel an urge to say something philosophical and unrelated. First off I agree with Anna that the mix of Floors voice could have been done better. The voice is too much molded in with the instruments and I for one would have loved to have it more in the front. But the song itself is beautifully composed and top notch. Tuomas is a precious bard. And here is where I go off topic, might sound crazy esoteric or have some agenda, but I'm gonna say it anyway. Elias Lönnrot guided Finland to have a strong spirit and Tuomas with Nightwish can spread that spirit to the world. I really wish peace and love for everyone, but some things need to move slow. Culture and that belonging is important. It is as true for you as it is for me. Go slow.

Really enjoy your analysis. I think once you know the lyrics the mix is fine but I see where on first listen it’s different. Also, it seems that the first one is the lowest then gets louder each time through. I feel the chromatic decents in the music echo the direct step wise manner we go from generation to generation which is why it’s included here in this piece. I feel that Floor will have a big, chesty mixed belt live on the chorus after the breakdown …if (and I so hope it happens) we get to hear this song live. What do you think? The chorus and melody is so catchy it sticks the first time you hear the song.

Lovely reaction! Just simply listening to Anna as she speaks in Finnish language (even if you don't understand, I surely don't) and it is so pleasant. However, and this is the part where many people might throw a brick or some rotten tomatoes at me, I am slightly disappointed. The composition, lyrics and instrumentals are exquisite. But I believe there was/is a problem with the mix. Floor's voice, when singing the chorus sounds overwhelmingly overlapped by the instrumentals, you can't hear it clearly. I have had great difficulties in understanding anything of the chorus' lyrics. And that's a shame. Definitely something went wrong with the mixing. On the other side, there are still several months until the album will be released. I hope that Tuomas will consider sorting out the issue properly.
Yes, too bad that Floor is so far back in the mix... and Troy is not Marko. Majestic cinematic sound. Bet Tuomas is dreaming of performing this with the London Symphony orchestra. The drama is turned up to 11.
I concur, I agree, Floor voice could be a bit more forward as far as I am concerned.
If this is what Tom is going to do with The World's Best Lady Metal Vocalist, he doesn't deserve her, and she should go her own way. Yep, I said it. Did he go vegenarian or something? ...because something is dreadfully wrong here. And why is Troy singing? He's a multi-instrumentalist. He's not a singer, and while we're on the subject, HE sounds like he needs to spend a year on a strictly carnivore diet. I'm hearing absolutely no fire in the belly AT ALL. I love them all dearly, and that's why I'm willing to take the slings and arrows of scorn these unpopular opinions are sure to earn me. Get it together, Tommy!

Veit jalat suustani! Kertsissä se pikku ongelma lymyilee. Kaikkia se ei haittaa, minuakin vain hieman. Korjausehdotus olisi seuraava. Jos ei haluta (jostain kumman syystä) Floorin dominoivan kuoroa kertsissä, koko menneiden sukupolvien kuoron tasoa voisi nostaa hieman, että sanat kuuluisivat. Mutta toisaalta, mitä enemmän kuuntelet, sitä vähemmän haittaa. Tuomashan se lienee tässä pomo ollut.

I can’t help but feel, and it pains me, that on this song they sound more like an aspiring, ambitious Nightwish wannabe band than Nightwish itself; one that’s knocking on the door of promotion from the Championship rather than the 28 times Premier League title holders. .the vocal mix is terrible even though it was intended that way. Bad choice. Moreover, the composition has become a kind of compilation single, everything has already been heard from Nightwish. A dime a dozen, nothing special.
