This is great! I just talked to a trucking school today and this is the type of work I’m really wanting to do! Problem is I’m 33 with zero experience operating any kind of heavy machinery. Pretty much scared of failure and want a better career for my family.
Get on Indeed and search CDL B driver. I know here all the big companies will show up. WM and Republic here atleast do offer training if you have your CDL already and they may help you get it. Give it a try, best of luck. Thanks for watching -
I used to operate a small backhoe and the front lifting fork controls look to be the same as the front loader bucket controls on the backhoe, very interesting.
One of our drivers actually ran heavy equipment for many years. He got a chance to come over to front load from roll off and picked it up fast ! He definitely credited it to his experience running loaders and other heavy equipment.
Great video! I am fresh out of CDL school and I start in a week and a half in a front loading truck. Any advice? I’m also going to be driving a manual.
Congratulations on finishing school ! My advice to anyone that is new to front load, or any professional driver position - be safe. Keep your head on a swivel and take your time. Don’t get in a rush and if you get frustrated, take 5 and roll on. Any mistake I’ve made doing this job has been because I let myself get in a hurry or I got worked up. When you make a mistake, just take something from it. You’ll learn something new everyday ! Speed will also come with time so just take it one can at a time. Good luck to you and thanks for the comment !
its been my dream to become a garbage man. I just turned 21 not too long ago. I want to get ready & take the CDL course, but im not sure if any company would take me without any type of experience.

Hey man I just got a job at waste management as a front end loader. What u think man? Should I take it and is there alot of manual labour I'm looking to drive I dont really wana lift anything I just wana drive.
Definitely give WM a try ! As far as the manual labor, it really depends on your route. If you’re in a downtown area you could be looking at a lot of pull-out cans. That’s just kind of part of it. You’ll have to see what they have available. Recycle routes are a lot lighter to work with even if you have pull-out cans to deal with.
@@markwhite6719 You’re not really lifting as a front load driver. Basically pulling and pushing. The truck does all the lifting 👍🏽 If you just wana drive then look into transport, all they do is drive.

Around 1979 we started getting trucks with these alarms and back up alarm that was more of a problem than anything else so we just disconnected all that noise only once daylight comes around I reconnect back up alarm.
20 cubic yard capacity. Packing out from empty varies based on volume, type of trash, and container size. Food packs easier with more weight while apartments have more volume with lighter trash. I have been running a help route recently where I pack out my first load on Mondays with 3 apartment complexes. Two have all 8yds with about 25 total together and the third is all 4yds with 17 total. Another route I ran is almost all restaurants, with various size cans, and I’ve gotta the whole second load on with over 50 cans and 15 tons on that load. It just depends on what you’re picking up. Rain also adds to the weight while cold makes trash lighter and harder to pack. Hope this helps, thanks for watching 👍
Cool to watch. I am retired, but am looking to get my DCL licence. I was told it is better to get a Class A because a Class B is limiting. Is it worth taking a course at a driving school first? Also, are these trucks manual or automatic shift? I heard just about everything is going automatic now.
