  • The video was cut short due to my phone running out of memory. I didn’t realize it until I was finished and this was my last complex of the day. It still gives you an idea tho of how heavy it can get at apartments after Christmas. We were also called off Friday and Saturday due to extreme cold and icy weather so you get the idea. Will do better on the next one 👍

    Those maintenance men are gonna have fun cleaning all that up. It was beyond cold here in Indy over the weekend my trash still hasn't made it outside🤣. Great video as usual and I hope you had a Merry Christmas 🎄

      I feel bad too cause this place has a great team of maintenance guys. They’re really understanding when it comes to it being heavy like this. That’s why I try to help them out and move the cans out when it’s loaded so they have room to work around them. Unfortunately like those last 3 I don’t have much choice but to only put them back in halfway. But yea, it was a bad weekend for us in Indy wasn’t it ? 😅 hope you had a great holiday too!

      We were called off Friday and Saturday due to below zero temps and icy weather. This is why it’s so bad. Every enclosure was like this. Since we had to be called off, we are going back to some of these apartments tmrw to get them caught back up on their service.

    Looks like garbagecollection here in my neighbourhood because the Garbage collection was missed during snow and ice here in Germany. We were allowed to put a bag extra trash to the can but collection was much slower because the amount was huge.

    I hope maintenance is using a dump truck and a skid steer to handle all that excess garbage! Some garbage is not what one would want to handle. There can be many hazards in a garbage bag or cardboard box. Needles, broken glass, wood with nails or screws thrown loose in front of the hopper also is a hazard you have to look out for. Some garbage is odorous enough to make me avoid a garbage bin if it's smelly enough. Fortunately most industrial bins have lids on them, unless someone threw a burning object, like a lit cigarette or similar, in it.

    Question if you dont mind answering, those trucks hold 40 cubic yards of trash correct? so 8 cubic yard dumpsters would fill it up completely? How much does apartment complex trash typically weigh?

    • @hopperhustle
      @hopperhustle  Рік тому +1

      The truck can fit much more, the body is fitted with a hydraulic compactor. Apartment trash is typically light but heavier in sense of volume. It will pack a truck out faster than food trash would, as that type of trash packs better while being considerably heavier in weight.

    • @johno2504
      @johno2504 Рік тому

      @@hopperhustle thanks so much for the reply, do you have an estimate range for how many cubic yards the truck fits from the dumpsters? also an approximation on how much the trash weighs per cubic yard uncompressed? Reason I'm asking is my friend manages an apartment complex in upstate NY and can get me the contract but I'm trying to calculate if its worth it. I've done car hauling and reefer, being home everyday sounds better, so just trying to calculate things but cant find this information on the internet. Thank you so much if you're willing to spend the time roughly calculating. Or even approximately how many Cubic Yd's of uncompressed trash your truck fits, and then approximately how many tons that will weigh.

    • @hopperhustle
      @hopperhustle  Рік тому +1

      It honestly just varies based on how heavy it is. Apartments typically start out the week heavier than the end of the week. It all depends on volume, rain causes loads to be heavier, cold weather causes trash to be lighter, some trucks pack better than others so they can fit more. I really couldn’t give you a good estimate because it’s never the same.

      most garbage trucks compact load to 1000lbs per yard give or take. some are as high as 1300 lbs per yard compaction rate. hope this helps.@@johno2504

    Hopefully the boss doesn't make you go back and pick up all the trash left around the dumpsters. Let the residents do it since they made the mess.

    • @hopperhustle
      @hopperhustle  Рік тому +4

      Maintenance here is used to the overages. They clean it up after the cans are serviced and they do a very good job of it. What a lot of the public doesn’t understand is if we, the drivers, took the time to clean up every mess at every can - we would never get our routes done. Then we would be doing a disservice to our other customers that we need to get to on the route that day.
      Cleaning up after making a mess when you dump a can is different but our job is to service the dumpster - that’s it. We can make good practices like not setting the cans on trash and even throwing some loose bags in if we’re opening an enclosure though.

      @HopperHustle I just accepted a job as a Front Load Driver today. I'm pretty nervous. I start training on Monday. Any tips for us big guys as far as crawling in the back of the truck to clean behind the blade or crawling on top of the truck. I'm about 500 pounds and trying to lose weight buy worried about how ill fit behind the blade to clean out trash.

    • @hopperhustle
      @hopperhustle  Рік тому +1

      Always use the grab bar at the top of the clean-out door to help yourself in and out. Make it the first thing you grab onto especially when getting out. Make sure the truck is turned off as well as the battery before you clean out too. Most of the trucks side ladders will fold all the way down as well so it’s easier to climb up to the side door.
      As far as getting up on top of the truck, that’s something you shouldn’t ever have to do. Don’t get me wrong, I will do it if there’s something like a pallet or heavy item up top that overshot the hopper. Ask your supervisor for an extendable brush or reach pole to help get stuff off your awning or off the top near the sides. Trucks with the ladders on the tailgate are the easiest to climb rather than the ones on the side. When it comes to behind the blade or getting up top, just take your time and use extra caution. Congrats on the job too 👍 hope you enjoy it out there !

    • @DarkVoidIII
      @DarkVoidIII Рік тому

      @@hopperhustle Some front load garbage trucks in Australia have a chute where what you call the awning is, and if anything lands on top of that, they simply tilt it up with hydraulic rams and excess garbage that got dumped on the awning in front of the hopper simply gets sent into the hopper. Some trucks also have hydraulic side and rear wings, operated using short hydraulic pistons, to stop some of the excess garbage on the sides from flying out the sides and rear of the hopper.
