Jon: "Portugal might replace Mali as my civ of choice"
Also Jon: "I have invented a challenge no civ can physically complete except Mali"
Any civs with a good faith income can brute force a religious victory fairly easily.
Alternate Title: Jon Makes Another Excuse To Play Mali Again
... It's not my fault he's so good
I love Mali . It's the only civ I've played since buying GS
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the title of this video!
As a kid I did this challenge a lot because I didn’t know how to manage tiles properly
I'm picking up on a theme recently- Civ, no production. Rome total war, Mercenaries only.
... I'm looking forward to the Fallout 4 run where Jon just gets Preston Garvey to retake the commonwealth single-handed. Seems like theres fun to be had just getting other folk to do the work for you!
In Fallout that makes sense since the guy gives you the rank of General but sends you off to do things. Oh no no no Mister Garvey, if you want that settlement you’re gonna have to help!
That actually sounds like an interesting challenge
Just a friendly reminder that if You press shift + enter You can end turn whenever You want to, w even without production
thought I was crazy for a sec. I've done this so many times by accident. like I've closed a city menu, moved some units around, and then hit enter thinking I'd go back to the city menu but nope. Think it's only if you haven't opened the city menu or if it's a new option.
... Oops
@@ManyATrueNerd And wouldn't the units that you produced and then immediately deleted still do things like upgrade city combat strength and earn eurekas?
@@davestephens3246 Nah, the deleted units don't do anything.
-it's not civ v, no gold earned
-garrison strength only goes up as long as the unit is in the city and it wouldn't exist on anyone else's turn
-eurekas are the same as garrison strength, as in they all use "own" not "produce," you won't get a eureka unless you need to own 3 of your most expensive production unit and they ALL get produced on the same turn, so it's really insignificant. Plus he could literally just say "alright I'm gonna buy two of those since I got benefits from two of them"
Might be a do-over if he loses though, he seems pretty invested in this..
@@addisonbaker8211 Garrison strength is not only increased by a garrisoned unit.
It’s also based on the combat strength of your strongest ranged combat unit. By building the most expensive unit he could make it higher.
He could also grab a Eureka by doing this simply cause he already owns another few other units and the production tips him over.
We've had "No ships" in Stellaris, "No armies" in Total War, now "No production" in Civ. What's next, "No marriage" in CK?
I mean, I've seen both a eunuch run and a horse culture run in CK...
@@Pchlster Alzabo is great!
That's feasible with both concubines and legitimized bastards.
If anyone could do it, Jon could.
Don't forget "No Weapons" in FTL
One of the things Jon missed was that the cost of great people increases for every great person who has been creates, and the ability to gain great profit points rises really quickly in the early game.
The religion gambit was never going to succeed because he didn't have the right civ for it.
Force end turn overrules the "you need to give this city something to produce" limit doesn't it?
Yep. It overrides everything.
There's a chance that Jon doesn't know about that, i mean he's still on default movement speed.
9:45 Oh no, Jon doesn't realise you need a holy site to make the Great Prophet work...
Insert beaten to death perception/game knowledge joke here.
FTL and Civ VI? oh god ive died and gone to heaven
I've only started watching you recently but I absolutely love you and your commentary, I'm really enjoying watching through some of your old videos. Can't believe I've never heard of you before a few weeks ago!
Welcome aboard :)
on an unrelated note welcome to the cult of claire
Surprised Jon is playing with the april update as the update was released at the same time as jon moving MATN headquarters and he somehow managed to record and edit it in 2 days.
I don't know why, but I read the title as No Population Challenge.
'A river has flooded as a result my market is on fire' - Video Games
If they were storing barrels of oil they may have been carried by the water and broken open on parts of the structure. A candle may have been dislodged into the very oily water and the flames may have ignited dry wood above the water line.
@@Safetytrousers You put way too much thought into that. I approve.
Force Endturn is SHIFT+Enter (check your settings if you changed in the past and forgot); Also you can buy great people (engineers) that give points toward completing wonders, however there are not a lot of engineers that do this in the pool, 4-5 maybe. so you will have to monitor the great people purchase option and buy with gold /faith when one comes up. Adding this as well as i just remembered, a couple other recently added great people can buy a citystate or give you suzerian (admiral)
Idk what I'd do at this time of night if these videos didn't pop up on my phone
Been enjoying the recent videos
You can shift and enter to end the turn immediately. Then you don’t have to produce anything.
Thank you for the comment. I was screaming at my phone about this.
I've been watching your fallout 1 playthrough and I just wanted to say I'm glad your still making videos :).
Another way to get walls , there is a Great Engineer that will build walls in your city
I thought he only did that for one city?
@@bigguy978978 3 charges iirc, 4 with mausoleum
Jon's infectious optimism is truly a wonderful thing.
Love your videos
Please never stop making Civ videos
There's a mod on Steam workshop that allows cities to build nothing per turn. So for anyone at home, this challenge is doable without having to delete produced units
shift+enter also always ends the turn, no matter what
Jon, some other potential tools to help in a no production run: harvesting forests in cities with Magnus to allow you to build wonders (good for early districts, although too late for that now), trading your extra luxuries to AI for more gold, forming alliances to improve trade route yields. Keep pushing settlers after you get a gov't district with Ancestral Hall+colonial policy cards+hic sont dracones for next settlement wave on other continents. Love the challenge!
I was thinking about cutting wood for wonder building. But then it still technically uses production, so I don't think it is valid for this challenge.
Whoa, they made an Argentina challenge?
Produces nothing but coinage, builds markets with religious fervor, hire mercenaries to do their fighting.
This is a Ferengi run, isn't it? I mean, latinum is pretty much just mercury, which he also has.
I thought this was gonna be a video with no Editing lol
Shift+Enter forces the turn to end
24:53 Yes the building's base output is less than the standard mine, but it gives its city a +25% bonus to gold production. If you look in the top left, your gold production went from 67.2 to 71.2 I think because of that bonus, so you should build them in cities with a lot of gold. The best way to figure it out is just to do the math and see if you get more from the +25% bonus or from keeping a higher base output.
i feel like this should have been a spiffing brit colab
“Food is not the most important thing” Jon spoken like a true comrade
Pretending to feed the people, while the people pretend to work? Definitely.
Jon, you make nights so worth it
hey jon, could i persuade you to do no guns for mass effect legendary edition when it drops?
Always love to see some civ 6
This looks like a good series
Hmm gold and silver mines, is that not production? You produce gold and silver from mine!
Jon and making really stupid challenges that somehow work, a combination made in the heavens (or in hell, one of the two)
Makes me want to go back and play more Civ VI
I am pretty sure you can just skip "requiered" steps by using shift+enter. Then you just skip whats left of your turn
you should be selling luxaries and strategic resources to the ai for extra gold. You have been capped out on horses and iron for over 50 turns which means you threw a couple hundred horses and iron you could have sold strait into the void. You should be making atleast an extra 300 gold per turn from trade deals.
A compromise for repair districts would be to purchase and then delete units whose value equals the purchase cost of the district.
What's a shuming? Is it like a henway?
This look Like a good next epizode
Hey Jon, what is your opinion on true start location earth?
I'm not Jon, but it sounded cool. And then I tried it, and it turned out that Italy was two tiles big. The Roman empire started in the stone age, because the natural border growth of just Rome covered huge parts of Europe.
The map needs to be a lot bigger for it to really work.
pretty sure you keep losing appeal because you're tearing down forests to place your preserves, and forests generate appeal.
maybe slap one on a plains near the forest?
I wonder if he ever turns off the production in his towns.
at least you have 6 out of 5 trade routes
Are you going to play Evil Genius 2?
Jon, please play Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator when it comes out.
Me, still learning how to play the game
Him, playing without producing anything
The flex
Jon isn't that good at the game. He doesn't understand that trees give appeal, or that only floodplains flood
Eh, I mean you can get away with pretty much anything on prince difficultly. On anything higher, he'd have been warred to death by the AI.
@@moon_wizard1250 But he isnt playing on Prince difficulty so I kind of fail to see the point
@@v3rri309 oh, I just assumed prince since most non-civ youtubers play on that. Wasn't paying super close attention.
@@moon_wizard1250 Nah it was emperor
You could get wonders (with a tiny bit of cheating) if you were playing as China. Buy builders, and have them spam their upgrades on the wonder. The downside here is that you can't do it all in one go, and so you'd contribute a tiny amount of production to the wonder each turn. However, if you really spammed the builders, then you'd use the same amount of build charges, and have spent the same amount of builder charges regardless, so it wouldn't be a violation of the rules in spirit.
Did Jon pick Mali so that he doesn’t have to keep saying joao?
You can win diplo victory with no cities or dipomatic favor just by always voting with the ai even if it's to take points away from yourself
You know, technically there is a second way to get walls if you were to buy the Great Engineer James of St George with faith/money as he builds ancient and medieval walls in the city for free.
I've never played or watched a Civ6 video, this is rather confusing lol
Honestly I think it'd be fine if you let production *only* be used for district repairs
Can't you hit ctrl + enter to force end your turn ?
Would using a great engineer's ability to provide production to Wonders work in this ruleset? Admittedly, getting the right great engineers wouldn't be easy. To me, that's like buying production with another resource (because you can buy great people with gold/faith) and you're not actually using the city's built-in production to build the wonder.
Arabia is guaranteed the last great prophet in the game guaranteeing you get a religion. once you get a holy site down you can just spam religious units until you have a doomstack and then rush down.
you can build wonders and walls by faith/gold buying great engineers. also china can build ancient and classical wonders with builder charges
Ethiopia has voidsingers faith into culture, science, and gold already built in
rusia had such a good early game that they were one of the only civs to get nerfed. They are now just S- instead of S+ now.
Khemri got some really insane buffs. They have multiple ways of boosting housing, food, amenities, and faith in their cities. They also get a large amount of faith and culture just from population.
Another approach you could have taken was to let the ai build up it's cities and just buy an army to take them from the ai.
The only way you can win this game is by Culture or Domination. You can't go with a science victory, because that can only be done by working city projects, religion is out of the question because you didn't find one, and Diplomacy requires you to get the Statue of Liberty and the Elfie Tower. Culture you can spam Rock Bands, steal great works, or buy great works off the AI, and Domination all you have to do is capture the capital, but this would allow you to steal wounders off the AI, which in turn could help you with a culture victory.
Couldn't he just done shift enter to skip the production making?
Didn't The Spiffing Brit successfully complete a 0 city challenge run as Kupe? Wouldn't that inherently involve not producing anything?
If you let yourself do repairs and projects, it will still be an impressive win.
I think you should allow yourself to repair stuff... and run city projects, you know, the things that hardly ever get used?
Rush spies so that you can steal gold and tech boost from the ai.
I can't stop seeing the production gears as shrimp.
Should I buy Civ VI?
Orange British? Civ 3 had Orange British. Pretty sure.
Play Canada since you never have on the channel
Whhyyy the slow movement
I believe it's pronounced "Kin-SHA-sha", not "Kin-CHA-sha"
Kamchasa isn’t that bad, two horses is pretty useful. They AI loves to buy them ponies
How about the "no end turn challenge "?
Jon please, set your cities to avoid production. You're wasting people who are in forest doing fuck all whilst you fields and mines go unmanned.
no production, only purchase.... ferengi style it is.
What did I miss, Civ 6 has changed a lot

Day 348 of requesting Zoo Tycoon. Dumb challenge time is best time
I'm at 24:46. If Jon didn't name Mercury-town (if he manages to get it down) "Freddie" I'm disliking the video.
Okay, not really. But I'm just sayin'.
If there's no england....why call them England, game doesn't make sense, so bad, will it ever make sense
