Sid's entrance at Survivor Series '96 is one of the best ever. That narrow Garden entrance way, fist bumping fans, and yelling "Who's the man?!" So iconic. Seeing him so over that night was great. He was always underrated, so seeing him get his due was such a cool moment.

@@txmetalhead82xkAnd good for him. Sid gets a bad rap from a lot of people just because he wasn’t head over heels in love with pro wrestling like so many others in the business, but he viewed wrestling as a way to make a decent living and I don’t see anything wrong with that. He wasn’t gonna push himself beyond his limits and still be wrestling in his late 40s, he was aware of the shady business practices of McMahon and other promoters, and how they’d make promises that they wouldn’t keep, so he always kept one foot out of the business and was smart enough to know when to get out for his own benefit.

So 92, 95 and 97 he was either one of the top guys, or involved with them. Not bad at all. Then if not for the Arn Anderson scissors incident in 93....he woulda won the World Title at Starrcade (ironically enough beating Vader, the guy he replaced 3 years later in 96), WCW's biggest show. So he was on top really for BOTH companies for better part of 5 years, that's pretty impressive.

Original plans were for Warrior to work a program with the Bulldog culminating at SummerSlam in a powerhouse match. He was then going to be booked at the Survivor Series in an elimination tag match. It was going to be Wildman, Bart Gunn, The Stalker and Ultimate Warrior vs Hunter, Goldust, Fake Diesel and Fake Razor. Warrior’s entire team would be eliminated one by one then he’d be left against 4 men and he’d single handedly eliminate all 4 opponents clean. At that same PPV, originally Vader was going to go over HBK for the belt. Following night on Raw and because of Warrior’s performance at the SS, Vince would announce Gorilla has made the Warrior the number one contender to challenge Vader at IYH: It’s Time were plan was for Warrior to put over Vader clean to hype the Vader vs HBK rubber match at the RR 97. That’s as far as plans were for in 1996.

i enjoyed how it went down. but to go back and roll with the original plans, it surely would have made sense for Vader to destroy HBK at Summerslam. Climb the mountain again, only to come up short in the Garden for Survivor Series against Vader, and then finally topple Vader in the Alamodome. It definitely 'could' have worked.
But again, Im with Sid. Im glad it played out how it did. He worked himself and earned it........twice.

Great discussion, but I never got the sense that Vince didn't like Sid. Vince praised Sid regularly while calling his matches, paid him while he was away, and gave him opportunity after opportunity.

I heard HBK didn’t want to put over Vader as champion hence why Vince made the switch to have Sid as champion.

It wasn't so much that Shawn didn't to put Vader over as champ so much as the matches just weren't there and Shawn also didn't like taking the Vader potatoes hence why Vince called the audible to Sid.

HBK and the Kliq always liked Sid anyway so it wasn't a problem for HBK to work the back and forth title switch with him.

Funny but Sid always got a pop. The man was over and despite his workrate, he put butts in seats.

whats the deal with Sycho Sid? Is his leg fully repaired?

With how well he was moving around the ring in RAW 1000 (about ten years ago) and the week or so before that in his match with Heath Slater, I'd say it's close to 100%. I say close to 100% because after a horrific injury like that, a leg never fully heals to what it used to be.

Dude that is the greatest entrance that is one of the best matches of all time. People talk about that stupid Hulk Hogan match that's garbage with the Rock, by far Shawn Michaels vs Sycho Sid, the heel being the Babyface, that match kills it because that Madison Square Garden crowd was so smart, they hated Shawn Michaels and love psycho Sid and it's apparent from the time he comes out

Vince McMahon is a HELL of a boss if he strikes fear in his employees 25+ years later, especially those guys who are 6'9"+...
I'm not saying what he did was right, but he did 'win' the Attitude Era and turned the WWF into a household name for years to come...
