I had this game when I was a kid and absolutely loved it. First game I ever played online multiplayer on. I also had NASCAR 99 season. This brings back a lot of fond memories of hours spent playing them.
you just brought back my child hood on the old "family pc". had a controller that looked like ones you would see for an RC car. ya know wheel on the side, trigger throttle and brake. lots of fun painting cars. good race man.
I spent hrs & hrs on this Nascar Legends !! I mostly raced on Daytona - Darlington ( had some great races there ) - Talladega - Bristol . I still play this once in a while , Lots of fun ... nothing fancy . I started out yrs ago running this on a Pentium 2 with a very good graphics card in 3D . I always ran this at 97 % . Love your video here .. . Thanx for taking us along !!! 🏁🏁🏁
The story on Bobby Issac (the 1970 GN Champ) is a little sadder than just hearing voices... he really didn't like the big tracks and the high speeds and he witnessed several fatal accidents... just like everyone else but it had a deeper impact on him... there was a fatal crash that day at Talladega and the driver (Larry Smith) was killed instantly... they made several laps under yellow with his body on a stretcher receiving no attention... this was too much for Issac and he pulled into the pits... and quit...
I grew up watching whatever was on TNN, and they had everything from Trans Am to World of Outlaws. So I love the variety on this channel. Loyalty is overrated, really.
I echo the people who would love a nascar stream series! Either the classic Nascar 2 or 3, or an NR2003 series with that exe you used in the recent Busch video. I'd watch any of it!
Another quality presentation by GPLaps .. not only highlighting motorsport from a golden era but highlighting a time in racing games when every detail possible was included with the technology available .. Bravo 👏 thank you for the time and effort 👍👍👍
You have to take care of your tires at the superspeedways. The popular advice was you could run wide out for maybe three laps before you had to start backing off in the big corners to save on tire wear.
Since you are revisiting these old (but classic) Papyrus stock car sims, one thing you could do would be to turrn off restrictor plates at the superspeedways (have reclassify them in the track ini file to a mere "speedway", the class that would include Michigan and California). You would also have to redo the gear ratios for both your car as well as the AI's, as well as some other things like stiffer right springs, but would make for an interesting what-if.
Man that was fun to watch! On the part about how Papy ended up not using the GPL engine for N3 and NL, I remember that vividly as a teen. If memory serves me correctly, I believe the original intention was to use the GPL engine for both games, but they switched gears midway because the publisher (Sierra if I remember correctly) was too worried that sales would be bad due to the bad rap GPL was getting for being "too hard". I guess it was a valid concern, given that early versions of GPL were a bit difficult to control and could suffer random oversteer, which Papyrus eventually fixed in the later versions; now that game is just "hard" because the cars were inherently difficult to drive and even more so if you don't understand the physics behind them. Had they adapted the GPL engine to N3 and NL, I'm sure they still wouldn't have been nearly as difficult to drive just because the physics of those cars is a bit more familiar to people. Oh well, what could have been...
Even though 2003 is the far superior sim, I enjoy Legends and Nascar 3 more. I think the driving model much more fits my talent (or lack thereof) and the ability to save midrace makes longer races much easier to do.
I loved this stream! Sadly I couldn't watch it live, but it was riveting stuff all the way through, thanks to your great commentary. Your 1950's and 1960's F1 content brought me to this channel, but I like the classic NASCAR races too. Please do a full season in NASCAR Legends (even if it's only 1/3rd race distance).
Wow, didn't realize this works on modern hardware and operating systems. I still have the CD somewhere, but don't have a drive to put it in on my computer.
Hey jake I know this was posted a while back just got around to watching. And yes i do remember you from NRK23 and SimModified you ran the 0 with JBIII Gulf colors
Hello! Could you share some tips and tricks? I had installed Nascar Legends and get those Daytona tracks from internet archive, which was in the first results of google. Then i added line to all.cal and track showed up in interface of the game. But trying to start racing or test day fails. Every time i get an error "Could not load complete track desctiption". Stock tracks works fine, thou.
@@braydenxwhelan1490 thanks. He was a hardcore mechanic that worked on his own racecar sometimes 17 hours a day getting ready for a race. It was what he liked to do and basically his hobbie win or lose don't matter.
It would be cool! He only raced once in 1970 which is why he wasnt included (probably licensing too) Luckily his car has been made as a download! www.theuspits.com/iwcccars/legends.html
Pole speed for the actual 1970 Daytona 500 was 194.015 mph so yeah, your 194.581 would have been over 1/2 a second faster. 'Richard Petty's speed of 195.865 was almost 2 seconds faster. So yeah, no wonder you are pushing going in the corners!
The reason he was pushing in the corner is that he wasn't out close enough to the wall on the straights and it was messing up his entry..........especially going into turn 3.
Watching GPLaps instead of the Super Bowl. Perfect evening.
Yeah, I went looking for the Superb Owl, but all I found was some football game, so here I am with Jake and the Good Ol' Boys! 😆
This was fun to watch. Only car I did not see was #55 Tiny Lund . He drove a blue Dodge Daytona with red numbers.

If you want to do a full season of this what about 40% races if not maybe 25 or 50%. Just love your channel. Also the busch Phoenix was great!

Ah yes, the 1970 Daytona 500- first prequel in Phase 4 of the GPLaps Streamatic Universe.

we need a " remake " of this game a better engine ,
I found this far more interesting than a contemporary Nascar race, but I'm old.... :)

Took me a week but finished this stream, right before the real thing! Great stream and fun to watch!
One of the best chanels on tube.
Could you make a video on how to install Daytona to Nascar Legends?
Great show. Right foot braking into the pits? I didn't remember about no put speed limit until you were pulling out on your first stop. Awesome!
0:00 go off 🎸
I been a nascar fan my whole life and played most racing games and still can't believe I just found out about this recently
Hey jake I know this was posted a while back just got around to watching. And yes i do remember you from NRK23 and SimModified you ran the 0 with JBIII Gulf colors
Maybe next year, do nascar thunder 2004, but full race in year 1 of career mode
I did that on half distance 4 or 5 times over a 4 year stretch... I won 26 races the last time I did!
Damn! Race was getting interesting at the end….. 100 laps next time haha
I need to get these games installed again on my PC !😊

I'm having the same issue as well.
Great video...how did you get the 3D wheels on the cars? Was it a patch?
oh this brings me back
Enjoyed the video but was disappointed that you didn't phone up Ken Squier to come in and call the race! 🤣
What was it you use to get these old games to play? I've tried but no success. Thanks in advance, love all your videos!
I use something called dgvoodoo!
thank you@@GPLaps
My grandpa finished 32th.
I was a crew member on another team in the late 70s............J D was a heck of a good guy.
@@EclecticHillbilly yes he was. Thanks.
I always rooted for the underdogs and definitely always the 70!

"Axel Richardson" - I see what you did there...
They ran shoulder harnesses since the early 1960s in NASCAR, not just lap belts.
ah nice, i wasnt sure when they started
They became mandatory in 1964 after Little Joe Weatherly's fatal crash at Riverside...
I'd be game for some online races on these old games. Have almost all of them physically from thrifting anyways
how you get daytona track to load on nascar legends i get could not load complete track description
og game , my uncle had it came in a big blue box
This is so cool. Where can we download it?
Please, how can I get Daytona International Speedway for Nascar Legends game?
How do you get the graphics like that for this old game? I have this game loaded on a fast computer and the game looks awful.
I use DGvoodoo and run in Direct3d mode
Too bad NL not have Marty Robbins in roster, i know he is in 1970GN mod for NR2003
It would be cool! He only raced once in 1970 which is why he wasnt included (probably licensing too)
Luckily his car has been made as a download! www.theuspits.com/iwcccars/legends.html
I just got a Carrera 1/32nd scale slot car of his Daytona!
Any idea where to find this ? Looks fun to play
Check out Myabandonware
