    I got my 821 NRR couple weeks ago and it’s hands down the lightest rod I own in my spinning arsenal. Here in central WI, I been having a lot of fun with it! I may have to take your word on trying 5lb braid. I use 8lb braid to 6-8lb leader but I want to gain a little more casting distance since the rod is shorter.

    I move been using my new 822 DSR absolutely love the rod so much I’m looking to get another NRX for weightless plastic insects. Kind of specific but the smallmouth in the creeks near me love them. Do you think this rod would be a good choice or should I look at the 901 maybe?

    Well done sir. This of course as you know is the graduation of the original Micro Line system consisting of the original CI4, 5lb Power Pro and the TSR 791 Glx (rated 3-5lb Power Pro on the blank).
    Having contributed to a lot of articles with my friend Ned on his In Fisherman Midwest Finesse site over the years it is safe to type that I take this method pretty seriously.
    I typed of that Micro Line system for years on Neds site. My better half still uses hers.
    Kudos to Loomis/Shimano/Power Pro ...great system as always.

      Yup, well aware with the Ci4+ 1000 FML. My only beef was the super light 4lb drag curve for what we do today

    • @travismyers9136
      @travismyers9136 2 роки тому

      Yes sir agreed. Though of course the unveiling in the 2012 In Fisherman Bass Guide by Matt Straw labeling it as a Jekyl and Hyde combo sure was accurate. It changed our smallmouth fishing for the next decade.
      It has had no business taming incidental carp and channel cats that have eaten our Ned rigs over the years. The only thing that saved the FAML was the ability to back reel.
      Over the years we refined the system with various Stella renditions which was almost unfair to the smallmouth population.
      The NRX+ 901, DSR and NRR are superb light line tools. Love all three. I used the fact that we still have plenty of 5lb Power Pro left on a 3000 yard spool to justify purchasing. :).

    How do you compare this to the 822S SYR? Do you think the SYR or NRR would be good for casting dropshots? I have the DSR and its nice but I am thinking about getting another for casting them.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 роки тому +2

      Expride light doesn’t have as much backbone and is a little more parabolic when loaded up but will definitely do a good job with these techniques

      Too much backbone for that. The 821 NRR is more powerful than the 822DSR

    • @nazmorgan8696
      @nazmorgan8696 5 місяців тому

      @@JPDeRoseOutdoors Thank you for you answer. It just got me confused with the power rating. The nrr is a 1 power and dsr is a 2 power. That would be the dsr should be more powerful than the nrr,, but it isnt?!

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  5 місяців тому +1

      @@nazmorgan8696 yes, but power is subjective to the technique the rods are designed for. It can definitely be confusing with Loomis like that but line and lure ratings will also help you determine the proper range of each blank.

    Is the 902 nrx+ still as parabolic as the previous version? I want to throw 2.8 paddletails on ball head jigs, Ned rigs, drop shots, and small top waters. Wanted something versatile.
    Most importantly I wanted something that will keep the fish pinned even on small hooks! I've had many jump or shake me off on my 7ft or shorter rods. I was wondering if the 902 or 901 will be best in the nrx+? I heard that the nrx+ is a little stiffer than the previous version also. While I do want a parabolic bend, I need enough backbone to be able to get fish out of maybe some weeds and grass. Curious to know your thoughts on all this.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      They are parabolic but crisper if that makes any sense. The 902 has some pretty good power but I’m not sure I would mess around in heavy cover with it. It will work well though with all the baits you mentioned. I use it a lot for sub 3” Swimbaits on a jig head and have used it for deep water drop shot

    One more quick question on the 902 nrx+ vs the original 902. You mentioned it is crisper which I think means it recovers quicker and not as noodly. However just wondering if you have noticed any less of a parabolic bend; does the new rod bend as deep as the previous model? If you’ve got time to make a video a side by side video comparison would be amazing. Thanks!

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      It will be just as parabolic when fully loaded up but not as easy to get there compared to the original which I found a little sloppy when comparing it to the +. I like the new one better. Especially the 901

    How do compare nrr to dsr model? I’m thinking if medium light is too stiff for panfish? Dsr is mag light power. But nrr medium light power suggests lure weight from 1/16 which is lighter than dsr 1/8 mag light.
