  • Can you add an external antenna to the Verizon's 4G LTE Home Internet Askey gateway? Do you need a cooling fan? I take apart the gateway to show you the insides and what options there are for antennas and cooling fan. Verizon offers this 4G LTE based fixed wireless home internet with unlimited data and for cheaper than many phone plans so if its available in your area it could be a good option (the unit is not geolocked so it can be can be moved but verizon asks to be notified of a change of address).

    I love your videos on this new home internet technology. In my household we have the trash can and this 4g verizon gateway and you’ve been a huge help figuring these out and you’re also doing the dirty work for us. Mine is Verizon’s gateway so I can’t really take it apart

      @@NaterTater no not at all. Someone else has the t-mobile trash can and it was becoming an issue we didn’t get along well about so since I have verizon and they have just about the same deal only it’s 4g I went ahead and had them send me one. The trash can does get better speeds at times but other times it gets worse. The verizon one does just what you said. It caps right at 50Mbps and it’s steady with no fluctuations so there’s a trade off(especially since the can overheats something awful) and I’m pleased about my purchase and now that we both have our own we each have backups cause it’s no longer an issue. It is funny but it was the best solution for me. Can’t wait to see what it can do when the

    My dad has the trash can and got the lid like yours and I was disappointed with the 4g gateway cause I couldn’t find a USB port but thanks to you poking around you showed me that there is indeed one. I want to add a usb fan to it. I’m just glad you do this stuff so we don’t have to. Thank you for doing the research cause I couldn’t find anything on it. I can’t believe it doesn’t come with hardware specs. Why would they hide that port? It just seems odd. Anyway thanks a lot Nate! Great channel and cheers!

    Very interesting video! I still have T-Mobile internet with fingers crossed their new router/Modem will correct some of its issues. Always good to see the competition, how it performs and really appreciate your time in showing their inner workings. Adding my own router to the T Mobile trashcan has helped me out tremendously. "Supposedly" this Thursday a t mobile tech rep is suppose to call back with a report on how the trashcan performed this past week after it went down AGAIN last week. I tried to get on a wait list for their new router but no dice and instead said they would send me ANOTHER Nokia. Funny when I asked if this was a new unit or one returned, he stated if it was returned they do a through testing of it before sending it out. NO THANK YOU lolo, I don't need someone else's troubles and I'll just wait for the new router/Modem. Again MANY THANKS for ALL your helpful and in-depth videos. Have a healthy and happy New Year!

    Hi Nate! In what direction is the fan at the bottom of the cube pushing air? Towards the bottom of the cube or towards the top? The airflow is so faint I'm not sure. I will be adding an external fan and I do not want it to push air in the opposite direction.

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  2 роки тому +1

      I don't recommend adding a fan to this one. If you're doing an enclosure or something then i'd just do a fan from the enclosure to the atmosphere. The built in fan push air upwards IIRC.

      Currently a promo going on, I'm getting device free no contract for 25 bucks a month and first month on Verizon. Wonder if this has anything to do with my MULTIPLE request to Verizon to provide my area 😅 with a 4g internet option, as satellite is my only option (perfectly in att and t mobile deadzones). I've also been a Verizon customer since 2011 and have multiple 5g devices (small business use) may have something to do with the deal they gave me. As of now the stock device is kicking Hughesnets tail so I'm happy even if they go up in price. Still cheaper and way better than satellite internet

    So those are Microstrip patch antennas yes? If I want to risk it (and I do) how would I attach an external antenna and can you show me an example of one? I did a fairly good search online for more specific info but am stumped finding any.

      I dont know of a good way to do that either. I assume two leads are a loop and would be connected together. You might be better off using a cell booster. ua-cam.com/video/bboYE4qcfDM/v-deo.html

    I switched over from Spectrum cable internet to Verizon's 5G Home Internet (not PLUS) plan last week. After a few hiccups setting up the ASK-NCQ1338 gateway (which required spending a few hours with Verizon's techs via chat), everything is running smoothly and I'm getting about 300 MBPS download and 20 MBPS upload.
    My question is this: your teardown of the ASK-NCQ1388 and the images submitted by the manufacturer to the FCC for certification show a cooling fan in the unit. I have yet to hear the fan in my gateway running ever since powering up the gateway a week ago, and I'm worried Verizon might have shipped me a gateway with a defective fan. Or could it be that the fan only activates when the gateway gets hot? I don't know. Have you ever heard or seen the fan in your ASK-NCQ1338 running?
    Thanks!

When your as far out in the boonies as I am you need a little help to get a good signal. I have the antennas mounted on the roof that I'm using with another router currently, but need to find a way to use them with this gateway which is in route to me now. If anyone comes up with something please let me know.

      @Destroymaster100 Рік тому

      oh yeah you're not gonna have a good time trying to twitch stream while out in the rural areas. give it time. ive lived in rural areas all my life, it started with a 3g antenna network, i was able to play console online games for the first time in 2012ish but it was horrible latency would fluctuate causing lag spikes but i didnt mind because i got to experience online gaming for the first time lol, then finally a towered internet connection came near us where they install a satellite and this satellite connects to their tower giving you wifi. expensive like 200$ for only like 20mbps but was able to game with no lag steady latency. then around 2019ish i got similar towered connection called unwired broadband was good but really expensive as well for the speeds provided. then now 2022, found out this is available. and this is the best internet out here so far, speeds are 50mbps download and 6mbps upload (i think you need fairly more upload for twitch streaming not sure) but its the best for its price for only 50 bucks a month latencies sit from around 30-60ms which isnt bad i dont feel any lag. and i can game online fps, rts, mmorpg, streaming on twitch though? not sure havent tried but i do stream to my buddies in my discord and they say it looks fine.
      give it time and another few years hopefully we will get 5G rolled out into rural areas and that forsure will be the best internet out. sadly for us rural area people we have to wait and be patient.
