✅ The Secrets of Verizon 4G LTE Home Internet

  • I test it so you don't have to, here's Verizon's 4G LTE Home Internet. I show the gateway settings/features (NAT, firewall, DHCP, wifi, etc), speed test, cell signal, 4k streaming test, hooking up my own router and more. Overall this is a reasonable option for many with few other choices for home internet. The biggest drawback is it is throttled for both download and upload but it does have unlimited data and is no geolocked so you technically can travel with it.

I've had to use my phone's hotspot to get internet at work recently, and it always works well.
I was sitting talking to my wife one night having one of our frequent discussions about shedding Xfinity, and the monster bill that comes with it.
I wondered aloud why these cellular companies don't build a "hotspot gateway" and sell it as home internet?
3 or 4 days later I saw an ad for this very 5G Home Internet. Blew me away. I ordered it and it is excellent, but very dependent on location, and what kind of signal you can get with your phone.
If you can get a strong 4G (or 5G even better) signal with your phone and decent speeds, it should work the same for the gateway. Great product!

  • @SixStringHarmonies
    @SixStringHarmonies 2 роки тому +3

During setup my phone glitched with the permissions, so I lost the 5G compass, and can't get it back as I'm already set up. Kind of a dumb thing. It should be constantly accessible.
So I've been using my 4G phone to find the best spot, and it's limited to 2 particular angled windows that run up two stories. If I get it about 8' in the air on the first floor, or at waist level on the second floor, I get the strongest 4G speeds. Typically around 45 down, 15 up. We do get 5G signal but sporadic. With 5G it goes around 720 down but it's rare.
It's on the first floor at waist level for now, and it streams 4K with very few bumps. In a week, I think I had one 5 minute period of slow service, and one other 10 second buffer during streaming.
    Not bad at all.
It fluctuates according to time of day, which of the 3 local towers it's connected to, and which band. I'll often get ~225 down, 30 up after midnight.
For the price and relative low effort to install and use, it's excellent.
The router component is quite powerful too. Covers the entire house with a strong signal.
Goodbye Xfinity and the $298 monstrosity that _was_ my monthly bill.

I've been using the T-mobile 5G Ark box for a few months and it works away from home. I just picked up the Verizon 4G device today. Activated it at home and I am taking it to work tomorrow to see if it's geofenced. I have read different opinions on whether it's geofenced at this time. I did notice that it's capable of much higher speeds but seems to throttle back to 50mb/s down, just like in this video when you're testing it. I assume that is to help with traffic load on the cell towers. Thanks for your awesome videos!

It's interesting that the upload speed is below 10mbps. I live in a rural area myself and I use 4G LTE on my cell phone with 5 bars, but yet the 4G LTE Verizon Home Internet isn't available in my area when I try to order it, it tells me it's not available at my current address which I found odd considering I have great cell service and hotspot service through my phone which is also Verizon service. AT&T, T-Mobile also is not available in my area for home internet, although my neighbor has AT&T 5G on his cell phone, and yet AT&T says he's not able to get 5G internet at his home either. It just seems a bit odd that neither myself nor my neighbor is able to access home internet through Verizon or AT&T or T-Mobile. But cell service through the phone is excellent. Btw great video, thank you for sharing that information. It's good to know you are not able to monitor the signal strength or ability to adjust the towers such as B2, B12, B66, etc. I do have a MOFI SIM4 4500 4G LTE router as well and it allows for those adjustments.

Satellite doesn't work with VPN networks at all, the jetpack doesn't work with my work system but I get great internet through the hotspot device off the verizon towers, and I got the Netgear device compatible with the network, put the card in but it doesn't transfer over. I went to the verizon store, the manager seen my connection from my property area compliments of screenshots, he created a dummy address that does accept internet, having the equipment sent to my address, he said to plug in, and should connect for the 4G. He said it doesn't make sense as to why it doesn't service home Wi-Fi with LTE even though our towers are Verizon.

I would recommend contacting the Verizon store that's the closest to you and asking if the services available at your home address. On the coverage map it says that it's not even available but yet when I called the lady told me that it was and then I will rest up there not thinking I was going to get it and then they double-checked it and said I could still get it then I showed them on my phone let the coverage map was saying that it wasn't available but yet they still showed me the service and when I brought it home it was automatically activated already right out of the box. So my main question is is it actually available or are they basically doing what T-Mobile does where in my case they don't even have a tower near me and the closest one they do is like 20 30 miles away so no service available at all at my home address through T-Mobile and yet the T-Mobile stores still sell the service. I do think that something odds going on and I think both of these companies are kind of just selling the devices cuz when you call online they won't sell it to you but in store in many places through both these companies they are willing to sell it to you well basically you're getting it for free but you still pay for the service

Hello, The Verizon Home Internet over 4G LTE has a max speed of 50/6. Now I live a mile from the site and I have managed to get my cell signal down to a whopping 77/79 decibels and it's not even in a window but close. Make sure to get yourself your own Wi-Fi 6 and turn the Verizon one off as it's vary limited range. I went to the opposite side of my home which is about oh I don't know 70 ft and I had 2 out of 4 bars on the 5G Band and with mine I had 3 bars at that same distance and got 52/6.06 lol. The Service work's great at 1 mile but most important thing to remember is a good solid signal. I have had mine way up to 95 decibels and even no I got the same speed I get dropped out of online games. Now I have a good connection that's strong it doesn't do it anymore. Verizon only guarantees outside signal and recommends a cell signal strength of 73 which I do get if I step out my front door but indoors it's around 95 on my phone. I do wish Verizon would offer them free devices that boost the outside signal and bring them indoors. If you remember years ago when Sprint had something called the Sprint magic box I basically already had great service for Sprint but told them that I had spotty service even though I had four bars out of the five they sent me this massive Sprint magic box that brought me from like band 26 the band 41 and having over 200 MB without it I was only getting around 80 MB so it shows me that these devices really didn't work but ever since 5G came out they discontinued them.

I knew the Verizon would work better because my straighttalk phone utilizes verizon towers and have awesome speeds on the phone. I ended up getting the 5 g cube that looks exactly like the one you are reviewing in this video . I get 100 uploads and about 25 downloads with a 15 ms ping . I couldn't be happier . Verizon's 4G LTE home internet is amazing I got my signal strength that you can see within the device when you log it to it all the way down to 77 and 79 decibels is where it fluctuates and that's not one mile away from the cell phone tower my phone on the other hand gets like 92 to 95 when I walk around my house whatever that one spot is it's like that sweet spot because that's an amazing signal I've had the signal for about 24 hours and it's still sitting around that area hasn't it over 80 yet lol. When I originally put it in the window which is like a three window you think it would be amazing service but I only had it down to 81 and I was trying to see how well or how low I could get it and then I had like 77 as my lowest and then like 80 is my highest so. It seems like if you can get it to 80 decibels or under that and have it stay pretty consistent it works great for online gaming unfortunately there is a 10 MB download restriction on streaming so no 4K or anything like that at least not right now

With the whole loaded ping the reason its that much better on verizon is because they are capping the speeds. So there is always that extra bandwidth leftover to provide a unloaded ping with. With Tmobile if your hitting the max of the bandwidth leftover on the tower the ping is going to go up. This is true for any type of connection even cable when you saturate your download or upload your ping will increase. So if you know you get a steady 150 from tmobile if you capped it at say 140 then you will end up with a greatly reduced ping.
This is why tricks like reducing the tcp/ip transmit mount will result in a lower ping because that ping outgoing and incoming requests makes it through faster.

That 50Mbps speed that you get with 4G LTE is due to a physical limitation of the hardware. The closer you are to the tower, the higher your speed will be as the tower and the radio built into the Verizon Gateway doesn't have to work as hard to pass data between each other. But if there's obstacles or walls, the data speed will decrease to ensure that the packets that are sent a received are not corrupted. My advice, locate the tower nearest to you, once found, put the Verizon Gateway near a window of your home that faces the tower. You should see way better results when running speedtest.

I discovered something interesting about the LTE's 50mbps throttle after some experimentation: it's based on throughput to your device, not to the gateway. So if your tower signal is strong enough to deliver 100mbps to your gateway and you're far enough away from the gateway that your wifi speed is effectively halved, it will allow the full 100mbps throughput to the gateway so it can still deliver 50mbps to your device.

4G LTE is only 50/6 but the business side can get 100 download. Not sure on the upload. As far as residential side it's only 50 on 4G LTE and then there 5G is like 300/10. It's not vary fast in terms of ping times across Verizon's 4G LTE network I mean they're pink times can be reasonable at like 30 milliseconds but then other times it will shoot up to 50 or higher and that's where I have noticed like AT&t's number with shares the same site of the Verizon site but AT&t is being time is constantly 50 ping it's got fast speeds but a terrible resp onse time and everything you do on your phone is extremely slow and takes more pages a few seconds to pop up

@@jasonmarshall4436 It's capped at 50, but the signal near me is substantially quicker than that. I can tell because whenever I conduct a speed test it initially shoots straight up to the 80-90mbps range before gradually being throttled back to 50mbps. But, I'm pretty sure it will push through as much of that speed as is needed to still deliver 50mbps to your device if the speed to your device would otherwise be diminished by distance from the wifi signal.
