    Spoiler Alert
    I love the character of Joel in the show. Yes, he did mess up his life badly but he was lost. And it is very real and human to me. Then he tried his best to find himself, such as working hard to fix the family business while taking care of kids, punching the manager who didn't pay Midge, speaking up at the resort on behalf of the family and supporting her with her career choice at the family dinner, even he didn't want to be the topic of her comedy (fair enough).
    While we blame on Joel for cheating on the Midge, we seem to forget that Midge cheated on her finance, Ben.
    Comparing Joel and Midge, I found Joel spend a bit more time with the kids than Midge. (I love Midge but I am just hoping equal amount of forgiveness can be given to men).
    The scene when Joel was drunk and begged for forgiveness really touched my heart.
    Anyway, just want to share that I think the character Joel was well written and acted out.

    Season 2 was better in every way for me. Character development, Tony Shalhoub in particular, The catskills arc was great and her comedy sets were actually funny,. The only critic I have is the weird ending.

    The Catskills episodes were exceptional, not only because they were well written and well performed, but because they didn't condescend.

    I grew up going to the Catskills as a kid as well as my parents...it was a part of East Coast Jewish American culture . I was beyond excited when I saw they were going to make it a part of it.

    The final scene on season 2 seriously threw me off..... I'm so upset the writers decided to put midge and Joel together again. He was a jerk in every single episode. Benjamin is the good man she deserves.

    • @aarongutierrez7705
      @aarongutierrez7705 5 років тому +5

      Elena in Movieland you missed the point. She did not go back to Joel. Did you not listen to the musical? The whole “I’m lonely” segment was a foreshadow, that success comes with a sacrifice. Mrs. Maisel realizes this, go back and listen to the lyrics and see her reaction. She had to chose, career or relationship. If she chose Benjamin, she would be living the same life we saw her in the very first episode. She wanted to pursue comedy, and knew Benjamin would be in the way. She says “one more night” because she gave up her chances of ever being married and wanted ONE more night, listen to the dialogue word for word not bits and pieces you want to!!!!!!!!!
      That’s the way I took it at least

    • @deadpoolchinese6570
      @deadpoolchinese6570 5 років тому

      Aaron Gutierrez respect your opinion, but I really don’t like the idea of marriage or family will always be in the way of pursuing a career. So if anyone wants to be successful they can only sacrifice their family, that’s nonsense imo.

    i loved the final scene as we see midge accepting the fact that she has to do this alone, and so spending one more night with joel, the person she loves, father of her children and someone she has so much history with is very fitting. I think she needed it to finally move on and feel more secure with her career choice as she would be missing so much of her home life from that point. it would feel wrong in that moment if it were ben.

    Midge silently communicates to her dad that she doesn’t want to marry Benjamin. This is confirmed when Abe is talking with Rose, after her drops the bomb about him quitting Columbia and the lab he asks her to sit down and this is where he likely tells her about Benjamin.

    I thought season 1 was basically perfect and I really liked season 2, but it wasn’t as solid. The stand-up comedy didn’t feel as funny as the first season, but I thought everything else was hilarious, especially Susie and her plunger! 😂 I also felt like there were seemingly important plot points in the beginning (like the mom’s personality change in Paris) that were forgotten later on in the season. I hope the next season explores some of those things they touched on an expands upon them! First season 10/10, second season 8.5/10

      J C I think that was her funniest set! But most of the time the audiences laughed a lot when I wasn’t laughing or when I just barely found it funny (for all the comics on the show). Maybe the humor just didn’t align with mine 🤷🏻‍♀️ I still loved Mrs. Maisel’s stage presence and personality though!

    • @aribafaheem7847
      @aribafaheem7847 5 років тому +1

      @@aarongutierrez7705 He was falling apart when he got to Paris and then in the very next episode he was having the time of his life and being extremely suave and patient with Rose. Then by the time they were leaving for the Catskills, he was back to being his usual frustrated self. Rose seemed so attached to Paris and she barely ever mentioned it again when they got back. It just felt like the Paris plot didn't leave much of an impression on either of them. Other than that, I really liked Abe this season, especially after he finds out Midge's secret.

    Really enjoyed this season. And to think we have to wait a year for s3 is frustrating to a point I kinda wish this show could have been 5 episodes every 6 months (not sure it's a good idea though). Also I have to say that starting s2 I forgot she had kids until it's mentioned explicitely. And I don't know how to feel about that. Cause let's be honest, kids this young doo'nt bring anything for the acting of the show, it's the opposite. So the less we see them, the better we are. But in the story's perspective it was a bit odd seeing Midge not really being a mother on screen. Didn't really see the struggling of her being a mother and trying to have a stand up carreer where she kinda have to be less present with her kids. But listening to your opinions maybe it will be a theme for upcoming seasons.
    As for the end of s2 I don't mind it if Midge is sticking to her decision of one last night with Joel. And if the show is going towards a darker turn maybe it's interesting. I can see Susie leaving her (even if their relationship is the heart of the show) and Midge being really successful but being "all alone" when she comes home.

    This season was so much better then S1 IMO. It was funnier and I feel I got to know the characters better. The standouts this were easily Abe & Susie. Abe is the highlight in every single scene he is, and his tone & delivery of lines is hilarious. My fav of his 100 or so hilarious things he says, is when telling Rose about the drive up with his son, and how he ignored him for the whole 3 hr drive, even when he had to pee, and he knew he had to pee, bc he had to pee was brilliant. And Susie, her side adventures were entertaining throughout. In the beginning when she's avoiding being home, and then getting kidnapped, but she gets along with the Hitmen so well, they let her go, to then her life as a Plumber in the Catskills is just fun to watch. Adding Ben is awesome not only because he's played by Zachery Levi (who is just a awesome human being) but it gives Midge even more on her plate for S3. Which can't come soon enough because I freaking love this show. Great job on the review guys,love it.

    I really really liked season 1 but didn’t LOVE it or think it’s “best show on tv” as much as a lot of other people seem to. I loved Midge and Susie but didn’t really care for any of the other characters. Season 2 I think really improved on that. Joel and Midge’s parents (specifically the dad) were all given a lot of great development which made me grow to really like them. I even really liked Zach Levi’s character. I also felt S2 was a lot funnier. I nearly died at the stuff with Susie and the plunger. Overall, I agree with Sinead, I thought it was a much stronger season that first (which I still really enjoyed)

    Susie and Joel, who have shown that they have complimentary talents, will start a management company that will become HUGE, and they will co-manage Midge and Sophie (and others). Also, Midge will become famous on the Johnny Mathis character's tour, Joel will bring the children on tour, they wil have another baby, and she will repeatedly use the word pregnant on television.

    I really enjoyed season 2 overall but I wish they hadn't gone with that ending. I get that they set it up by trying to humanize Joel but I'd have much rather preferred them ending on Midge just reflecting over the Lenny Bruce performance. The 'last night' with Joel seems like a really petty drama set-up for season 3, since we already know Benjamin's views on forgiveness, and idk I just think this show is above tropes like that.

    was not a fan of season 2, can already see the luster wearing off of this show.
    The Paris episodes just felt like an excuse to shoot in paris for a few days, did nothing for the characters or story longterm.
    Really getting tired of Midge needing to make herself the centre of attention and do a routine every time there is a group of people gathered. You're in a Paris nightclub and just decide to get on stage and do 10 min? oh this is my friends wedding? let me stand on a chair so everyone can see me do my set.
    Dialogue is getting too close to Gilmore Girls (fast talking = funny)
    Can we give Joel something to do? or don't have him on the show. He was pointless the entire season
    I hope the Zach Levy love interest storyline is over, this show is stronger when it's Midge alone learning about herself vs. her in love with some guy.
    Alex Borstein probably needs to see a chiropractor every day after carrying the show for so long.

    Season 2 was so-so. Poor atempts of director in episode 4 to copy Wes Anderson. Poor development of the doctor-line, and at the elast episode sex with ex-husband just killed me. Why even bother showing his line? Just concentrate on other characters. Also second season didn't really have much of the conflict going on. It was 3 out of 5. I am surprised you guys liked it so much!
