I had the same experience with lachez pon and started making my own exactly like you did here! I added perlite and charcoal to mine in addition to fertilizer
I love how useful those soldering irons are!! I’m obsessed with mine. And I found additional “heads” or like attachments to make diff sized holes. Perfect for pots and semi-hydro! Like ten years ago, I even had a ceramic soldering iron for smoking with… 🍁 back when I did that, lol. So it was a “butane-free” high. Dumb. Lmao 🤣
Hey great video, thank you! I've only recently come across and absolutely fallen in love with glass containers to use as pots. The pon and/or Leca pebbles look amazing along with the beauty of the plant, IMHO. I've been collecting glass vessels but I've been careful not to choose shapes that narrow at the neck or anywhere else on the vessel, because of the difficulty of removing out of the old vessel when it comes to repotting time, especially if the plant has become root bound. It's so easy to cut through a plastic nursery pot but quite another to have to break a glass vessel! I will be making my own pon going forward, as a result of this video, so thank you so much once again. The colour of your Pon is so much more prettier than the Lechuza Pon. Only just came across your video, so new subbie here from London, UK 🇬🇧
Aw thank you so much Marcia! So happy to have you here experimenting and sharing with me 🫶🏽 I LOVE the look of Leca so much, and I’ve had to smash a few narrow neck jars in my journey 😅 had to learn the hard way! I haven’t made my own pon since, but you just reminded me how pretty is was when I made it! 🪴
@@aprilbrooks Thanks April 😊 Please don't tell me the enthusiasm for making your own goes🙈🤪 I have bought Leca and Lechuza Pon already to start the transitioning process of a few plants so will be using Pon (will be making my after that bag finishes) and Leca - at least that's the desire🙈
@@aprilbrooks mine is scheduled to be delivered on Saturday. UPS sent me the notice since it’s a heavy weight. You had me nervous until I got the tracking numbers sent to me.
Use an old pair of nylons, pour your mixture into one nylon stocking and pour your water on top....ive never done it but it came to mind as you were trying the tide container technique, new sub here😊 id love one of your hoyas❤
Thanks for the DIY for pon. I already have some lava rocks and I heard that with lechuza pon I wouldn't have to test my waters ph levels like with leca. I thinking of the best way for me to do semi hydroponics with the least effort and maximum growth. I was trying to find out how it worked out for you?
Honestly you just have to go for it! Transfer your plants, keep an eye on them and switch things up if they start to decline! I’m always trying new things 🌿
Loved the video!!!! I JUST took a cutting of my moms Cebu Blue the last time I dog-sat to try to root because I wanted it so badly!!! And my sister just got me my first Obavata cutting that I am praying roots!!! Send Obavata tips please!!!!
April I newly subscribed a couple of days ago and I am enjoying your videos so much. I LOVE your pon mix, I also have all my plants on drainless vessels in leca and wanted to try pon, just can't find Lechuza pon.
I found this extremely interesting as i am not familiar with PON, as with LECA. Which do you think is easier for maintenance? Which do you think you have had more success with? I dont know if i watch for your plants....or your nails. LOL I cant believe you do them yourself!!
Lol thank you! 💅🏽Honestly I prefer PON because it comes with fertilizer in it already (or you can add some) and it’s turned out to be a better growing medium for my plants. It is a LOT more expensive though lol which is why I use both! More plants have rotted in LECA for me in the past.
Since it's been a little while since you've made this pon, how do you think this mixture of rocks is working out for the pon? Are your plants growing well?
I want to make my own pon but I'm a little intimidated. Do you use tap water, filtered, or RO water? That is my other concern because my tap water is pretty hard.
Every time I watch these videos for the pon recipe I’m shocked by all the people buying expensive bags on Amazon. Has nobody ever visited a nursery? I buy BIG bags of pumice for 7 dollars all the time. I sure as hell won’t be spending 24 dollars on lava rock. I’m sure I can find that cheap too.
If you follow my channel, you’d know I’ve only made this mixture once before realizing lechuza is cheaper lol I’m sure lots of people have visited nurseries. Everyone can spend their money on what they want at the end of the day 🤗🌿
I love the love of Rock you always get me into another rock but I'm doing the promise but that promise is so dusty I could not breathe for 2 days thank God you were a mess. But that Cebu blue needs a little more water. Good video thank you. 🥰😇❤️
I know this was awhile ago, but do you have the actual ingredients you use? As I’m getting confused with what you used. Sorry I’m disabled and I need an actual list 😅
I transferred all of my plants to semi-hydro after having a fungus gnat infestation lol switching to pon + Leca really helped with that. I don’t have any soil in my home currently 🫶🏽
Can someone help me out here? I want to make this Pon however I have noticed that the USA Pumice is no longer available. Can someone recommend a good brand of pumice that I can use as a substitute? Thanks!!!
The dust that floats off of that is asbestos, please for the love of your health keep the mask on and rinse ahead of time. I'm excited to make my own pon!
@@aprilbrooks yes lol I was surprised when I learned that also I can't remember what video I heard it or if it was on Google but yeah, the dust that it can produce is technically asbestos since it's fibers are made from volcanic rock.
@@aprilbrooks Yeah buddy! The dust that comes off volcanic rock is classified as asbestos Asbestos is made by turning volcanic rock into fiber, if those fibers break and become airborne you are in serious trouble lil lady!

So far I’ve had great results with my hoyas
I just use a metal mesh colander. It works great and the rocks don’t fall through. (It’s like using a metal screen)

Hahah I love burning stuff with it! I bought it with a wood burning kit back during the panorama 😂 comes in handy for plastic planters now 👍🏽
Great video, keep up the good work👍🏾

1st timer here to your channel; love your content. I garden in leca or make my own soil mix. Now I'm interested in pon :)
Yes, I love trying different substrates! Once I’m able to garden I’ll get back to soil but I enjoy Leca and pon in the house for sure 🤗🌱
Lechuza Pon was back in stock yesterday 6/7/22 on the company site. I ordered 6 bags.
Not taking any chances lol last time I “ordered some” it never came because they oversold their stock. But thanks!

You should totally get one! I literally just uploaded a favorites video & included an Obovata 😇🌿
Since it's been a little while since you've made this pon, how do you think this mixture of rocks is working out for the pon? Are your plants growing well?
Yes definitely! However, my substrate ends up being a mixture of my DIY PON, lechuza & Leca due to repotting and stuff lol

Any pumice will work fine I promise. Just make sure it’s not too small, same size as the other rocks would be perfect
