    never use a metal pry tool on soft plastic. My IT guy did the same thing and marred up all the edges of my laptop. Always use a plastic pry tool or spudger. Also yo need to open the bottom panel from the battery side first to keep the plastic clips from breaking.

    A beginner question - does windows need to be reinstalled on the replacement SSD, and what's the best way to copy files from the original SSD onto the replacement?
    Edit: a month into this adventure I found it’s also possible to do a fresh install from USB. Download software like Ventoy to provision a usb thumb drive or external drive as a boot device. Then place windows iso on the drive. Choose boot from USB on BIOS to start the refresh install wizard…

      Ended up using an ssd enclosure to hold the new SSD and copied existing partitions using Macrium Reflect trial version…

    Should have started prying from the side of the removable battery... cover comes out a lot easier and you don't break the plastic locks.

      Hi, No this one does not take two drive at the same time but its compatible for 2.5inch sata HDD/SSD or M.2 NvMe .Unfortunately this one does not have option for second storage drive. you can see the motherboard layout in this video at 5:28 .

    Hi,
    After you change the drive. Do you have to reinstall Windows and all other programs?
    Thank you very much for your video :-)

    • @jasminm.3481
      @jasminm.3481 3 роки тому +2

      Yes! All your programs and data are installed on the hard drive. You need to back it up onto an external drive and create a boot media for windows before replacing the hard drive. You can use the windows media creator for this. It has simple step by step instructions. Then simply boot from the usb/dvd and it should will install windows. Then you just need to transfer back your data. Programs will usually all have to be reinstalled though!

      @@Jez2008UK according to the manual you should always start from the back especially for the T470 that does not have a middle screw at the front. You break the front clips and it will never close nicely ever again. This is why I didn't buy it and went with the T460 instead!

      @@level-zero999 Wow, thanks Kemmy for the speedy reply. So that I've read you right, you're saying start prising it from the back first where the removable battery is ? From a corner first ? Or from the middle of the back ?
      I've only just purchased a T470 and whilst I have yet to receive it, I'm already looking / learning more about my new machine online (until it arrives later this week).
      I went for the T470 because I work on construction sites and wanted something that was somewhat tough, not too expensive and (for me) most importantly of all, had a really good battery life. The T470 ticks all of those boxes as far as I'm concerned :) Mine comes with a 256Gb SSD and I'm pretty sure at some point I may well want to upgrade that.
      Thanks for your help :)

    • @level-zero999
      @level-zero999 4 роки тому

      @@Jez2008UK sure thing friend. I'm referring to the area at the back where the battery is. That is where you should start from.
      That's a good purchase you made. I think the T460 and T480 is pretty rugged and has more body than the T470 however that does not mean it is not well built too since it's still a Thinkpad.
      You should be able to upgrade it later on pretty easily. Both ram and SSD. It also has an m.2 slot so you can add a cheap sata 42mm SSD.

      @@thepcphone Because you're just some guy who opened a shop, without any prior knowledge other than "I fixed a PC once or twice" and learned everything from secondhand sources. It's evident. You didn't even wear a strap to prevent shock, you had the wrong tools - you didn't clearly explain what your were doing and you certainly did not follow proper repair procedure. So, it's clear you're an "on the job" learner as opposed to someone who actually studied, understands and teaches the field.
