Emmet Cohen - Piano
Wallace Roney Jr. - Trumpet
Buster Williams - Bass
Lenny White - Drums
Rare to see Emmet really, really pushed...but those three put him on the very top of his game. Masterful all around. Goodness gracious, how I loved that.
Lenny White is such an og
Lenny's snare is like a shot of espresso. Incredible comping. And Buster Williams at 80!!
🙌🏾🙌🏾
Ahhhh man, I miss Roney! RIP 🕊
It's fascinating to listen to Emmet in a completely different context, with Lenny White, one of the original jazz/rock/funk fusion drummers, and then Buster Williams, the straight ahead acoustic bass player, and then a great jazz trumpeter like Wallace Roney. Wow. Also, as a drummer, it's interesting to watch Lenny playing the ride with his left hand and holding his right stick with matched grip, unlike most old jazz players. He sounds great though!! Everyone does! Thanks Emmet Cohen!
Definitely want more from Jr. He’s his own person and has a lot to say.
Lenny White, sheeesh 🥶 absolutely killin it
Fine and exciting playing, Wallace! Your voice is heard.
Hot off the press! Wonderful! With two legends.
Don’t you mean three legends not counting Emmet? Which of the three players don’t you consider a legend?
Wallace Roney Jr. wow!
Wassup man 😂
@@smokemeisterbro you here too? Hahaha
🔥🔥🔥
very very good!!!°
Madonna santissima ❤️
Thanks!
This is great. All the guys are masters even though young Wallace Jr. is less seasoned. But he had two great resources, Mom and Dad.He learned well! Looking forward to his debut album.
Lol his parents were Geri Allen and Wallace Roney. Roney, Jr is definitely seasoned. You don’t need to comment to comment. In fact, emmet was trying his best to keep up. Roney and buster challenged him.
🔥
👍👍👍
😊 ✨
Buster Buster Buster!!! My fav bass player along Ron! Such great music! (recording can improve though, but already good!)
NMRK!!!
GREAT PLAYING BY ALL! Wondering if that is Buster's Hawks Panormo?
Man didn't even know there was a Wallace Roney Jr... But dude sounds great!

Definition of Jazz: Hard to completely say...but you just heard it
Brilliant noise

The balance is difficult, its given by the instruments, but maybe also the room you play in! I think it would help to discuss with the recording technician. Each instruments needs to have the same amount of "voice".
Difficult is a very amorphous word when you’re speaking about musical or room acoustics. Perhaps you’d like to be more specific about the balance issue that you hear? I think you’re right. Seems like Wallace’s trumpet is a bit too loud but still fantastic so it may need to be backed off a bit and perhaps a bit stronger in the base area. Lenny White sounds great no matter what he does. In this piece he’s just playing laid-back drums with a few short solos which is really not the type of drummer that he is. He was phenomenal with Return To Forever for so many years.Turn him loose and get out of the way.
@@stimpy1226 I am listening as a classical
musician who did a lot of Chamber Music. Maybe the bass gets his own discrete mike in order to show off his artistry a little more! Emmet is a great Chamber musician
and I know he understands what I am talking about. I hope you present my comments to him. Thank you!
I have read your reply several times and I respectfully do not agree with your sentence that each instrument needs to have the same amount of voice. When they get a solo they need to be raised up a bit and then go back slightly into the background to get proper balance. I’m basing this on acoustic jazz musicians and albums that The thousands of albums in my collection and this is my take on what makes a great jazz recording. It would probably Hold true for blues and many rock recordings as well.
I think you both make good points.
However this is a small living room in a residential apartment and what we hear remotely may differ from what the musicians hear from one another in the actual space they’re playing in.
But there are definitely times where I wish I could here some singers or Kyle Poole’s playing a bit more out in front.
@@jjbloyber I understand that and I agree with you about your particular issue. Emmet’s apartment is not large as I have been told. I think you should contact Emmet directly via his email and see how he responds. It’s on his website.
Emmet Cohen comin through very square on those keys :-/
