@bodaciousmos respectfully i disagree. I myself made all the effort in my relationship and marriage over 23 years, and it was still 95% one-sided with me making all the effort and getting criticised daily no matter what i did. I also know many other guys in the same situation. The stats also show this socially
The black paint is also really complementary. It hides the "shortcut" really well and makes the entire project look so seamless. But aside from that, what a wonderful wife. Hearing this kind of stuff makes you want to cry as a man.
Black is to stop light from the projector from bouncing around too much. Allows for a brighter picture without washing the room in light, ruining quality of the movie.
Seal around the edges of the sheetrock pieces. Do it however you wish. Tape, paint , etc etc. That way everytime you pull one down you’re preventing the sheetrock dust from doing what it did when you pulled it down and put it back up.
That guy may have just smiled on the outside, but I guarantee he felt like THE MAM when his wife complimented him. This was so refreshing to watch. Good work sir.
Wouldn’t the unplastered/unsealed sides of all theses drywall tiles end up making white dust everywhere ? Asking because I might do this but don’t want to breathe drywall dust all day.
Two things: 1, that's an awesome idea for a basement. And 2, great women like this this have my full appreciation and respect, because this is enough to warm any man's heart for a brief moment that will live on in his memories. 😀
It does look good but I bet they are spot on with acoustic being garbage. The drywall carries no nrc and I 100% sure she never told you the truth on cost. But like I said it does look good and will still cost less than a drop ceiling. If you wanna help with acoustics you can get yourself some wall panels but it won't stop noise transfer from basement to main level.
@@chiefdoshamike772 I wish I understood more about acoustics but I’m telling ya… this system looks and sounds amazing to us. As for bass sounds. We typically have a few dishes rattling upstairs. Unless you are in the kitchen you don’t hear it though.
But is still a poor idea. The drywall is a sound reflective surface. They would have been much better off if they covered the panels in cloth or even using sound deadening tiles. With their home theater producing sound, you do not want that sound to be reflected in the room. The less reflective surface, the purer the sound. The insulation is secondary and will do nothing to improve the sound inside the room.
One of the greatest videos. Not so much the drop in ceiling like you'd see in any building with a grid, but the fact the wife is happy and doting on her genius of a husband. More of this, please.
Brilliant! We have a saying in the North of England "Up here for thinking (point at your head) down there for dancing" (point at your feet). It definitely applies to your husband, and you're just as smart for choosing him.
Not exactly. Yes, it is inexpensive and functional. However, drywall is a poor sound deadener. it will reflect the sound from their movie theater reducing the experience. Either covering the panels in a heavy cloth or hanging heavy drapes will reduce that issue.
@@alanmcentee9457 Do you really think that they care about a little echo in a home theater. With a bathroom near by, and the ability to pause the movie to take a shit, or deal with kids. It's a home theater.
@@robertc49 If they want a good home theater they would. But then it is possible you missed the part where they also stuffed insulation on top of the drywall.
@@alanmcentee9457 The insulation wasn't for the movie experience or acoustics in that room. It was to keep the sound contained to that room as to not hear it in the room above.

Yes, she's standout outstanding, just as he is. Dude had better be grateful to have such a lovely wife. And the look of the ceiling is really beautiful.
My immediate thought was, "Screw the ceiling...the best part was her support & encouragement!" Even better than that was everyone else's reaction. The Grinch's heart grew 3 sizes this day.
I've been a structural engineer for almost 30 years and have never seen this. What a great idea! This could also be done using regular sawn lumber joists by putting a 1x3 or 1x4 on the bottom of the joists. I'll have to remember this.
This wouldn’t come from an engineer perspective, don’t worry. I’ve been a plumber for 30yrs and when I first saw these I hated them cuz that plywood is extra hard to drill. Supposedly it helps a lot with the noise above. However, I told a customer to do this exact thing over 20yrs ago in their custom home and everyone drooled at it in the basement. They also did it in other areas of the house. My previous owner put 1x cross sectioning the joists in the basement to install some asbestos looking tiles. I pulled it all down and went with the joists to make the brick fireplace pop!! Was always a great idea
A couple that clearly cherishes and supports each other. Awesome! My wife and I are the same, we are equals and will not be divided! It's how He made us, the way it should be. Well done you two!
Looks great! To add FIRE PROTECTION, simply apply an intumescent coating/paint. Right now, without drywall protecting the bottom of the engineered joists, you have no fire protection. An intumescent coating applies like a paint, but expands to form a heat resistant 'charcoal' when exposed to flame.

It looks fantastic…like Board and Batten on a ceiling. What a genius idea when you want a finished look but 100% accessible! So creative! Thank you for sharing!
The best part is how there's no plastic covering the insulation, and the way the ceiling is made it's not very tight. This means the insulation will draw moisture, leading to an inevitable future fungus problem which is fucking impossible to get rid of once it's there.
On behalf of divorced women everywhere: thank you, sir, for making an effort to do great work for your family while showing your wife the respect and loyalty she's reflecting back to you. It's refreshing and encouraging.
PROOF you never stop learning. I see a lot of ceilings going what they call industrial, everything left and painted a dull black. But that gives a unique finished look, and very affordable. Your husband is very creative....
In 1981 my first year in college in Ireland and I was talking to an Iranian naval engineer and he said to me “only marry a woman that’s proud of you”. I remembered his advice, I’m 61 year old now, happy married 35 years with 3 fantastic children and my wife is everything to me. It was one of the best pieces of advice I ever got, and I’m blessed I got it so young.

@@gregwesterman2115 that also is a good point.. the above floor, spillage, leaks through, oh well, if the drywall does get too wet, and it is enough to drive a man nuts, simply change out that one rectangular section, and Bob's your uncle . Good call..

Seriously though all good relationships are 2 people who appreciate eachother, praise each others accomplishments, and inspire eachother to do better.
All the rest are called toxic relationships.
8seconds into this video and I see you’ll have a wonderful and happy marriage. Congratulations to you both 🎉
+@jesp5842 I love this comment. Thank you! We are blessed to have eachother
@@theoneandonly4464I have been married for 27 years. I think this lady is a keeper, but my wife is from Mexico. Which gives me peace of mind. I would never feel like I had a life partner if I married an American. But that probably has a lot to do with both of my parents being on their 5th marriage.
If every man could get this reaction from his wife he would do anything for her!
Unfortunately you are a rare commodity and your husband is a very blessed man!
Awesome idea! As an electrician, that's often asked to add electrical devices without making a mess, This is genius! And praises to her for praising her husband in public.
Love that you openly praise your husband. Wish all women appreciated their husband this way..
Kudos
They would if the men were like this one. There is talk about how guys play women by being this amazing men while dating to become totally different men after marriage . Men put no effort into a relationship after they got her
@@bodaciousmosPeople say the exact same thing about women.
Shortcut no shortcut, it's a Brilliant ideal time, saving, money saving, Accessible and looks great. You must be a drywaller..lol
Black is to stop light from the projector from bouncing around too much. Allows for a brighter picture without washing the room in light, ruining quality of the movie.
flat black, FTW, yo!
I love the unity and enthusiasm of this couple . I love great couples . I’m a sucker for family.
Love that you give him praise. Us men need more of that from the women in our lives
We just going to breeze on past the bear arms bearing that musket???? Because I'm pretty sure I need that more
You actually have to earn it tho. Taking out the trash is below bare minimum (if you're looking for praise)
And this goes the other way, too. Women appreciate men noticing their contributions. We’re not that different.
You boosting him up, and yall being there for one another is so refreshing and wonderful!
I'm a construction guy and I do have to say, that is pretty badass!
lol thank you! :)
Smart and easy. I like it. Works perfect for what they need/want
well, yeah, genius. But is the flange on the I-joist rated to carry drywall?
@@therighthandmann yes. The typical drywall ceiling is screwed to the joist.
Wouldn’t the unplastered/unsealed sides of all theses drywall tiles end up making white dust everywhere ? Asking because I might do this but don’t want to breathe drywall dust all day.
Two things:
1, that's an awesome idea for a basement. And 2, great women like this this have my full appreciation and respect, because this is enough to warm any man's heart for a brief moment that will live on in his memories. 😀
All this but….. (it’s still a drop ceiling)
@@madc.8153this comment shows that you just don’t get it
No spackle, looks amazing and easy access to any wires and plumbing, absolutely genius 👏 👌 😀
Thanks! 👍
I'm doing this!!!
@@CollinsCountryif it sounds good to you, that’s all that matters! I love how accessible the utilities are.
So refreshing to see a couple that can complement each other contributions. I wish you many successful DIY projects together.
Great example of a good team and refreshing to see a husband praised for good work.
Anyone with a 'home theatre' needs to get a perspective on the world. @@alanmcentee9457
Now there's a beautiful lady who actually appreciates her hardworking husband, may you live a long and happy life together
One of the greatest videos. Not so much the drop in ceiling like you'd see in any building with a grid, but the fact the wife is happy and doting on her genius of a husband. More of this, please.
Yeah, my wife would have just found another way to criticize it some how
Brilliant! We have a saying in the North of England "Up here for thinking (point at your head) down there for dancing" (point at your feet). It definitely applies to your husband, and you're just as smart for choosing him.
Functional, esthetic and probably cheaper than most ceiling projects done by designers!
Well done!!!!!
@@robertc49
If they want a good home theater they would. But then it is possible you missed the part where they also stuffed insulation on top of the drywall.
@@alanmcentee9457 The insulation wasn't for the movie experience or acoustics in that room. It was to keep the sound contained to that room as to not hear it in the room above.
Yup, that's awesome. That's a really nice theater too.
+@jerryrigsit5400 thank you! My husband and I did all of it:)

+@Dreadlock1227 THANK YOU! :)
Yes, she's standout outstanding, just as he is. Dude had better be grateful to have such a lovely wife. And the look of the ceiling is really beautiful.
When a good man and a good women work together, anything is possible. Made my day. Thank you!
I agree with your statement
😢
This is the proudest day of this man's life, he will literally never forget being complimented like this
More memorable than being called handsome
Love that you post positive things about your husband! And the theater looks nice!
I am stealing your idea, don't tell my wife. This is exactly what we were looking for. Genius idea.
Good idea, also no sound transfer through the joists
Good idea thanks
Yep 😊
OSB, not plywood. He would have been better off filling the openin with some dimensional lumber.
He was when he found you!! Amazing beautiful eyes and a beautiful spirit!! God bless!!!
I'm actually going to use this for this one room in my basement that I wasn't sure how to do the cieling. Glad I saw this ❤
A couple that clearly cherishes and supports each other.
That’s actually smart also
I was surprised no one said anything abt that. I thought building codes required sheet rock covering engineered joists for fire suppression.
I've seen a number of ideas you've posted that your husband has come up with. He is one smart guy and you are one smart wife for appreciating his creative ideas. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
It really is a very clever idea! No wonder you so proud of your hubby! He is one to appreciate!
Of course he is a genius. Not just for the ceiling (which is a great idea) but also for marrying a lady with such an amazing smile. 😊👍

I am a Carpenter 30 years I have to say what a great idea you had big big props 👌👍
It was right there and I didn't even see it.
kudos for acknowledgment of a good husband . need more women like this
Yes!!!
The best part is how there's no plastic covering the insulation, and the way the ceiling is made it's not very tight. This means the insulation will draw moisture, leading to an inevitable future fungus problem which is fucking impossible to get rid of once it's there.
@@aslemartinsen5284
Dehumidifier fixes that
..most of us with basements have them ..
That is a genius. We need more people like this thinking outside the box. Not only functional but looks great!

I never comment on shorts - THIS one is genius -- hats off to him for a great idea, and to YOU for letting him run with it.
Definitely a good job but essentially just ceiling tiles which are very common. Still a creative solution though 👏
PROOF you never stop learning. I see a lot of ceilings going what they call industrial, everything left and painted a dull black. But that gives a unique finished look, and very affordable. Your husband is very creative....
The real achievement is the admiration of his wife. That Is Priceless!

May God bless u both with many years to enjoy together!💕🎉
In 1981 my first year in college in Ireland and I was talking to an Iranian naval engineer and he said to me “only marry a woman that’s proud of you”. I remembered his advice, I’m 61 year old now, happy married 35 years with 3 fantastic children and my wife is everything to me. It was one of the best pieces of advice I ever got, and I’m blessed I got it so young.
Wow that’s awesome. My wife sure is proud of me and I am proud of her.
and don't get bamboozled by the ''Potential" expectation, goes both ways. most likely he/she will not change for the better.
I love seeing a man’s wife celebrating him, the same way we men celebrate our wives every day.
Ever notice the amount of hostility that erupts in the comment sections of guys trying to show off their wives? Everyone gets pissed saying “why is she doing everything?” and “why aren’t you helping her?”
I actually do like the look of that... Clever and affordable for a broke man like me... Thank you for sharing this idea.. and, it won't sag either.. clever!!!!
Excellent thanks for the kind words. We love the ceiling. Been up two years with zero issues.
Even if the drywall panels get wet and sag, they would be cheap and simple to replace.
@@gregwesterman2115 that also is a good point.. the above floor, spillage, leaks through, oh well, if the drywall does get too wet, and it is enough to drive a man nuts, simply change out that one rectangular section, and Bob's your uncle . Good call..
From a sound perspective, 5/8" drywall would be significantly better than 1/2". Thanks for the idea, I've got it tucked away for our future low ceiling basement! 💪

@@jamesjarvis8243 My house my code!
@jamesjarvis8243 I joist fire code is heavily state dependent. This would not be okay in Ohio, for instance, but should be fine in Kentucky (many people just spray paint the ceiling black to save money here). I did save a photo yesterday to ask one of my building inspectors, though, just in case 😅.
