So glad you brought up phone/app decluttering. This has been the most impactful on my life. Bye bye constant notifications! The calmness I feel from this spreads throughout the day so I can use my mental space for more worthwhile things.
I keep a paper grocery bag right near my front door and whenever I find a shirt or a book or a whatever that can 'go', it goes into the bag. My goal is to have it full for a drop off at my local donation center *every* Saturday. It makes the process super easy and feels great to be rid of more and more clutter each week!
Appreciate Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you considered - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (just google it)? It is an awesome one off guide for decluttering your home minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.
I think table surfaces are a good place to start, if you want the most bang for your buck. (the most visible change for your efforts). If you start with stuff that is already hidden (like in closets or attics or cabinets), you can get rid of a lot and not even really see the change because it was hidden stuff to begin with. But if you start with kitchen counters, dining table, coffee table, dresser tops, then you will really see the difference and so will guests see it. It will make your home look so much cleaner and more functional. That visible noticeable difference will give you motivation to keep going and then you can get into the hidden areas at a later stage.
That is so true! I started my declutter back in April, selling a couple hundred items and donating others. I look around and see no difference because 90% of those items all had a home (shelf, cupboard etc) even my wardrobe doesn’t look any different despite having removed at least 40 things. I need to focus on the visible now, to keep me motivated!
I’ve been adjusting my mindset, habits & home employing minimalism for the last 3 years & have decluttered SOOO many times & watched endless videos on the topic. Anthony, this is probably the most practical & straightforward video I’ve seen on this topic of decluttering! Seriously awesome job 👏🏽 I feel like I need to get off my butt and tackle some of these areas right now. Also- woot woot! I live in Minneapolis right now as well!

These tips are things that I honestly live by and implement all the time! It feels good to have that free space in my phone and in my physical surroundings 😊
My decluttering tasks usually start with the paper clutter on the table, then I pick a closet or an area. Also if it's a lot or I want to save it all, I come back for a second or third time to really par things down. Today I finally took out the Halloween decor and saved 3 things that I like to easily decorate with
Liked this video so much! It struck me that pretty soon people will not know what a "magazine" is, nor a "paper grocery bag." I like your straightforward approach.Thank you.
Great suggestions......decluttering is my favourite thing to do......been really diligent last two years.....donated five garbage bags of cloths for me.....sold many dollars worth of stuff so far.......it’s been very freeing and empowering
I have a box that I am collecting old electronics around the house to take to the recycling center. It is amazing the amount of small cables that accumulate over the years!
I have been downsizing for a while now and revisit areas in my small house and take another little load to the thrift store. After seeing a tiny house video where the young woman and her partner only have four drinking glasses, two coffee cups, two place settings of silverware, I decided I could do much better myself by following that example. I only keep what I use, and only the best stays. I did part with grandmas dishes, I never used them. The sentimental stuff does not look like an asset anymore. I opted for drawers in my kitchen and each category of item has it’s own drawer, pans, baking, silverware, mixing bowls, etc. if they don’t fit, something goes. I built a pantry in an underused space with shallow shelves so nothing gets lost and pushed to the back. I buy no more plastic storage containers, I use the glass ones, like grandma and only have a few because let’s face it, if it goes into the fridge as a leftover chances are huge it may end up tossed if the fridge is packed with stuff. I really like your videos. Thanks.
I like to start with the obvious: things that are for the trash or recycling like wrappers, packaging, broken things, clothing with holes or stains, shoes that hurt or are worn out, things you have in duplicate or triplicate, things you never use (a layer of dust is a good indicator). You can take a bagful out of your house pretty quickly, and there’s practically no decision making at all. Next, all the visible surfaces, especially the kitchen counter cause you have to work in there every day. Don’t ever start on sentimental stuff until you are way into decluttering. It’s so difficult that, if you do it near the beginning, you’ll get discouraged. For some people, clothing is sentimental, but at least you’ve gotten rid of the awful, unusable stuff right at the beginning.
There is this window ledge in my room that was full of clutter; files, paper, junk etc. I removed the non essentials and moved the files into my closet out of my sight, the ledge now has nothing on it and its quite refreshing. Keep up the videos!
Every week, on the day of garbage pick up, I go through my refrigerator & toss out left overs and such. So helpful & no worries of mess or smelly food!
Had to laugh 😂. Today I cleaned out my fridge while my daughter was still asleep, cleared off my dining room table and then installed my second email address on my phone and unsubscribed from about 30 mailing lists (how do they build up so quickly!) while I was clearing my inbox. Then after a few more chores and lunch I sat down to take a break and this video popped up (I am subscribed) 😂😂👍
This is the first time I'm this early in a one of your videos since I found your channel. The tips are really helpful and it actually kinda motivated me to to a little more of declutter in my room. Definitely going tho do this more often.
I have what I call donation day. I gather up the recyclable cans and bottles, magazines I am done with and clothes and household items I’m getting rid of and take them to where they need to go. Magazines go to the local hospital, cans and bottles get redeemed, clothing goes to charity. Yarn and fabric go the the local Senior Center. My house feels more spacious and I feel good at sending stuff on its way.
The email tip is awesome. I also find that when you unsub a couple then it makes the ones you still sub to stand out more in the future so you can unsub from those too. It cascaded pretty quickly for me when I did it.
To automate the unsubscribe from newsletter process, check out apps like Cleanfox. It checks for newsletters and unsubscribe from them. Way more convenient imo
"Expiration" dates are meaningless on packaged food. Most food in general. Usually those are "sell by" dates or "best enjoyed by" dates and speak nothing of the foods actual spoilage. Just eat through it and toss it if it smells bad.
thegazette very true. It still gives you a hint, though. eg. yogurt can be a week or two over the date and still be fine, but if you find one at the back of the fridge that's 3 months over, just toss it, you probably don't need to take the time to taste it. Anything that's meat, otoh, take those dates seriously. I mean, yeah, a salami that's 1 day over will still be fine but minced meat will not and I wouldn't trust uncooked chicken either.
thegazette It’s not even about if the food is actually expired or not. If you have food in your fridge that’s past the expiry date, its an indication that you’re either buying more food than you can use in a reasonable time, or you’re buying stuff just because it’s on sale or it’s trendy or has good marketing, but it’s not food you actually eat. It’s a good opportunity to evaluate what’s really going on with your shopping habits and maybe not bring that stuff into your house any more. Becoming aware may help you get inspired to plan your meals and shopping instead of making random purchases. Also, a fridge that is not cluttered with useless stuff is much nicer to use.
Although baking mixes do expire. It's probably all right if the date is just a couple of months past the date, but cakes, muffins, brownies, etc. just won't bake right if they're old.
I live at home and I decluttered the shit out of my own stuff, but my mum and sister hoard shampoos, clothes, picture frames, pillows, candy,....etc etc and I hate living in this cluttered space
I have started to declutter my room as having so much stuff around and thinking about it makes me anxious, but now that i'm doing it i feel overwhelmed and anxious since don't know where to throw the junk away - i have taken all things that can be recycled and separated them and there's still so much unrecycable stuff left (mainly old toys made of pvc and stuff mixed with metals and plastics that i can't separate). I just feel like putting all this stuff back and not think about it anymore🤦♀️
Don't. Stay on task I was exactly where you were and I finally decided to stay in one little spot and get it done trash recycle donate three bins or bags trash recycle donate of course and what you're going to keep what's moving you forward you keep if you have more than you need it's greed you'll be so glad I have not missed one thing that I got rid of
I love watching you because your face and your voice and body language say, "safe, calm, trustworthy person" and it makes me feel much calmer and happier and I'm sorry that's kind of a weird thing to say but there you go. :3
So while my wife has been away I have been decluttering the loft and spare room. I have sold some things donated some stuff. The only thing is I may have inadvertently gave some of my wife's clothes away.
I would hazard a guess that many people who have paper clutter have no “proper place “ for the paperwork or can’t make a decision in the item in question.
Table services they are a nightmare for me. I clear them off they look nice for about 3 or 4 days. Then they're back to where they used to be, I try to stay habit of clearing it as soon as possible. but there's always something I'm making excuse for. 🙃🙄😨
If people buy unpackaged fresh food every 2 - 3 days then no food goes to waste or smells. A fridge should be wiped out with a clean damp cloth about say every 2 weeks. Or are these people who do not living in their own little pigsty. I wonder.
Keeps bag in the closet and start tossing items in the bag everyday. Then put bag in the car and take to donation when your out and about. It’s a daily activity.
A quick advice, your doing great really, yet you kind of need new topic to explain or teach 🤔 the hedonic treadmill video for ie was brilliant, really useful, your production in general is amazing, but you need new ideas, you kind of focusing on decluttering and minimalism alot.. usefully perfect, but you can do much 🏃👏

Absolutely loved it, would love a whole album

FYI some donation centers take clothes that aren’t in “wearable” condition, ie stains or rips, etc., because they recycle them.
Great ideas for getting started!
Thanks for the advice :D
Immediately turn off video and start ferociously deleting stuff off phone
Including UA-cam? lol

Be more ruthless. If you have not used an item for 2 years or it's not useful or beautiful give it away or sell it. Do not be sentimental.
Very reasonable!!
