Anthony, you never told us you were a professional plant model! Secrets out bud. xx Solid points, and I wish I watched this not right before I have to go to work because the sudden motivation to declutter just got real.
I've been working towards being more minimal for quite a while now, but it's always nice to get back to basics. Slow and steady is right.. I feel like I'm not making much progress each day but reality is I have drastically cut back my consumption and have been working towards using what I have while slowly decluttering. It's nice to be reminded that it doesn't have to happen in a day or weekend. 😊
Yes minimalism is a mindset !! I’m becoming a minimalist soon and I felt like people misunderstand the mindset part and becoming a minimalist without doing the mindset but I’m feeling good!
Very good tips. I’m on keeping the momentum going. I’ve gotten rid of so much and then gotten a second wind to get rid of so much more. It’s insane how much our family of five acquired, and how much of it was excessive waste and not cared about at all.
Ive been reading and watching minimalism, sustainability, zero waste, etc videos, articles, books for a few years now and no one would probably look at my home a d think I'm a minimalist. (I'm actually a hoarder, tbh) but it's actually helped me over time. I can see and feel the difference/shift. For me it's more about learning to make do, being more mindful about purchases, being more intentional overall, etc. I have some really small oasises of minimalism in my cluttered house. I pared my dishes down, even my silverware quite drastically. I'm very content having just 4 sharp knives (a paring knife, chefs knife and 2 serated knives I could probably live without) 2 spatula/turner's (one wood and one metal and silicone), 2 cooking spoons, one silicone spatula (not the pancake kind but the digging things out of jars kind), and a pasta spoon and that's basically it for cooking utensils. Meanwhile my kitchen is a hot mess in other areas but I am hoping that will improve with time. I'm really taking it pretty slowly and learning to live with less and sometimes just.moving things out of the living area to try it out without getting rid of them right away. But the simplicity starts to grow on you, must more I think than if you just tried to bam toss all your stuff out, sell it whatever. I have so much stuff and it's been in storage for a long time (because I didn't have my own place) and rather than just dumping it, I try to "shop" from what I have. So like when I needed a bag that fully zipped and would fit in my work locker, instead of buying one I looked for something that would fit my requirements among my things and used a dark colored simple bag that was actually a diaper bag and it became my purse. So I don't have a minimalistic asthetic by any means, but I'm growing a minimalistic mindset of meeting my needs with things I already have. And also I try to use natural cleaners and avoid disposable one use items. And look for things that are sustainable or multifunctional. (Like I just bought a decorative glass Mason jar cup because it had a reusable straw and a lid for it and it was on sale for $2. Because I am a straw user and I keep hearing about how terrible disposable straws are. And my awesome cup is the only one I need. I do t need to buy a set of these or a set of straws. One is totally enough. Damn long comment!! Thanks for the video. :)
Your videos are just an amazing gift, I watch lots of minimalism videos and the way you explain things is really easy and takes off the pressure from the whole idea and how to do it. Do you have a video on where to start if everything in your life needs decluttering? Thanks in advance
Another thing I would do is like this. If I have way too many coffee cups (I do) I would use a coffee cup for my key clatch or to hold pens or whatever rather than trying to buy something new as a pen holder or whatever. I'm not saying "find an excuse to keep your cups" I'm saying use what you have rather than buying something to solve your problem. I need a bookshelf but I'm flat broke for the foreseeable future so I created a makeshift one by turning some cardboard boxes into SHELVES and its helped me to organize.my books better and make better use of my space. This helps me to better see what I have and what I want to keep than having them boxed up or haphazardly stacked or whatever. I know it seems like I'm not minimizing because I'm not getting rid of everything, but I'm working more on rethinking "buy buy buy" and aquire aquire aquire which feels more important to me because I can get rid of everything but if my brain is still in aquire mode it's just gonna want to fill up the vaccume that's made. So anyway this is me agreeing with a lot of your tips such as minimalism looking different for everyone and being a process.
I feel like if I don't keep a lot of sentimental things (like diaries, school books) then I won't remember things. And remembering what's happened and the process of growth in my life is important to me.
Louisyed I feel the same way but lately I been taking photographs of all those things I'm attach to, then I just keep the ones that really make me happy. You could try the same, it may work.
Thank you for putting out such awesome content, Anthony! I'm a new subscriber. Also, fairly new into minimalism. A few months into this lifestyle choice. One that I progressed into naturally. I must say, I feel so much freedom and such wonderful benefits already. Your content inspires me often. I love your honesty, insights and the funny/quirky elements that you add. Not to mention your Maltese poodle pup! May you keep finding success, following what truly brings you joy. Cheers!
I really appreciate your inspiring presentation on this crucial subject in my life. You really have the ability to present the subject in such a calm and simple way. Thank you so much for sharing your time and experiences with us, especially me who still struggle to declutter. You motivated me. This subject intrigues me, and I plan to learn more by watching more of your videos.
Awesome video! I am so glad I found your channel a few months ago. Plus the plant segment, amazing haha! On a journey to get to a simpler life and your videos give awesome tips. Thanks!
So calm and yet funny! The proof you don't have to overreact every emotion to make funny content! Keep being original :D (BTW, i sang the intro jingle right when I saw the thumbnail haha)
I agree with number 4. I agree some of the so called inspirational tours of minimal spaces just show blandness to me, just lots of beige and no colour.
On point 2 - I'm too independent and stubborn?, rebellious? to 'choose a system and stick with it'. That's a really easy way for people to fall prey to the whole idea of ' The Rules of Minimalism'.
You are obviously much further on the path than I am! :) But I've always been good at the 'easy' parts - not keeping excess keys, or old bills that were paid off years ago. But my father was a child of the Great Depression, and my mother still has a problem with 'Stuff', so the next step that's slowed me waaaay down. (But I refuse to give up my underwear!)The intentional spending has been the easiest part for me, tho.
Totally. To add to this, for me it has been a framework for learning to be content with what I have, or only pursuing specific things that I truly believe will actually add happiness or productivity to my life. It's easy to endlessly chase things in all directions seeking the happiness or contentment the marketing industry claims it will provide.
VGlitter Rainbow He once said „break the twitch“ revolved out of him constantly picking up his phone (duo to feeling anxious or weird while f.e. standing in line) kind of like a muscle twitch. :)
inspired, productive, creative.... why are all videos about minimalism talking about this? I work in an office processing documents. I never feel inspired, productive or creative :) I guess minimalism is just for creative freelancers who need to be creative, productive and inspired all the time. I never felt I needed to declutter my life. It is not the physical stuff that creates the clutter in my life. it is all the chaos in my head that makes me wanna kick the bucket
Remove distractions from my life huh? How do I remove people from my life then lol. People are kind of a distraction to me in general but I cant be alone either lol.
Came here for the thumbnail and was not disappointed. 👌🏼
No clickbait here. Gotta deliver! :)
I'm no beginner, but I couldn't resist that thumbnail!
I knew I'd get ya!

It's a backup career. 🤵 Thanks for the kind words!

The plant👌🏻😄🤭😂
I felt so calm after I watched this video. Thank you.
Hahaha... the plant part though.. great tips!!

Finding out your why for doing anything I think is super important. Great video and some great info!
This is the best video I have seen (about ANY topic) in a long time. Thank you!

You and that plant are fabulous 💃
I dunno, I think The Plant is definitely a new trending look!
Anthony I loved the bit with the plant! However, it should have been a succulent and you should be wearing a black and white striped tee shirt 😁
TimelordUk yep, needed a snake plant. Lololol
I definitely thought that was a succulent (although fake). I'll do better next time! ;)
Break the Twitch or an air plant! I'd never even heard of succulents and air plants before Minimalism came along!
I had no idea there was so much I had to buy before I could enjoy living with less!
That is a succulent, some sort of Crassula I'd guess. Better yet have it on a white stool while you sit on the ground 😂 to each there own.
Love the new piano riff :-)
I feel like if I don't keep a lot of sentimental things (like diaries, school books) then I won't remember things. And remembering what's happened and the process of growth in my life is important to me.

You could try the same, it may work.
I feel fortunate that after a multitude of flooding, all my paper memories were wiped out. So I had to go out and make lasting ones.
Your channel is nothing but the most awesome place to be.... awesome content...keep it up
Thanks so much, welcome :)
That 'find your own look' B roll 😂 Some great tips here, thanks for sharing 💡

I just mean a decluttering system-in hopes that people don’t get discouraged. The end result can always be different for everyone! :)

How does minimalism help with money?
You spend less money on crap you don't need or really want. You're also less distracted, so you can organise your money quicker and easier.
Totally. Part of minimalism is buying less stuff.

Sorry, I couldn't focus, I was coveting that interface, monitors, and keyboard in the background, let me just pull up amazon...

New intro? - kind of?
Playing with it!
