    EXCELLENT work, all the small but important things he mentions (like sewing the credit card pockets down with room at the edge for the next seam) shows the forward thinking of a true craftsman who knows his trade 😄 well done!!!! Beautiful, truely awe-inspiring work.

    Some great ideas here. Thanks Chuck! I use painter’s tape to hold those flaps of leather out of the way while sewing

    You can make another panel for the car pocket side and sew your card pockets to it. Then leave the inside edge open and have another large pocket under the card slots.

    Thanks Chuck! Great video utilizing cutoffs..I'll be making a couple of those shortly. The simplicity of the design as well as the creation is an awesome feature for new leather crafters as well as us old timers who's fingers don't work like they used to but 100% agree with you that hand sewn looks so much better than machine sewn. I hand sew EVERYTHING I craft..belts, purses, holsters, sheaths you name it. HAND sewn adds that last little handmade touch to a handmade project. Thanks again!

    Chuck nice project! I just bought the same leather scissors you are using. I noticed they tell you to beware because the scissors are extremely sharp. Sharp is correct. I cut through two pieces of 8-9 oz leather like it was butter. Best regards, Richard

      Chrome tanned leather is a little harder to skive but you certainly could to keep the bulkiness down.

    Hi Chuck, Great information! I have a question about burnishing. Can you burnish the flesh side of a project to a smooth finish before tooling or after tooling. What has me wondering is, will burnishing after tooling smooth out the tooling?

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  11 місяців тому

      Hi there,
      Burnishing is mainly done to take any loose leather fibers on the edges or backside of the leather and bind them together to create a smooth finish. It can be used on the backside of leather if you want to smooth out the flesh side, glass burnishers work well for this. The top or grain side probably wouldn't give you much results, you may actually get more of a patina look to it. The best time to try and smooth out the tooling is when the leather is still damp. Hope that helps.

    Howdy:
    What do I have to do to get a remnant pack like yours? Every time I order remnant packs, I get a ton of little pieces about 6X6 or smaller? I make Possibles bags (shooting bags for Black Powder shooters) and I could get at least one from that HUGE piece of Buckskin colored remnant, IF I had one. I have a whole 5/6oz.hide of Camel colored Chrome tanned here, but my shop isn't geared to handling whole hides. I just bought it because the price was fantastic. I could surely make due with smaller pieces like the one you made this travel wallet out of.
    Thank you.
    God bless:
    Dave

      Hi there, the remnant bag used in the video is currently out of stock but if you order that specific one it will have some larger pieces in it. We do have smaller remnant bags on our site and those usually yield 6" pieces.
      This is the one Chuck used in the video: www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/chrome-tanned-leather-remnants-assorted-colors-3-lb-bag

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  9 місяців тому

      It didn't replace the cement, it's just easier to use in some applications. Some people love it and only use double sided tape and some hate it lol...so definitely experiment and see what works best for you.

    • @rickmurphy4895

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply

      Chrome tan leather doesn't edge or slick very well. If you prefer not to have a raw edge, you can use an edge paint!
