Very good tutorial! Though it bears to mention that if you have your project set to color managed you can set the input color space of the EXR sequence clip to linear directly, with no need for the Cineon node.
Very Nice, Casey Next opportunity you could do a start to finish render composition and insert it on a video. I know there are tons of videos like these, but the way you do it is much better
best bet is to always document everything. time of day, month, camera lenses, light types, etc.. you can create an HDRI of the scene and use that to light in blender. if you can't create an actual HDRI you can use something like google maps on your phone to take a 360 picture for reflections and lighting. blender 3 now has really good shadow catchers as well which helps.
Part 2 suggestion: Dust bunnies, one sock, a dime and a piece of popcorn to go against the wall with your stool and blanket or maybe as asset that are part of your living room by the couch "video."
Hello! I'm working on a 360 animation; and since it is getting quite heavy I decided to render in layers. I already divided the scene into different collections according to what I want to show in each layer, but when I render nothing appears; completely transparent. Do u know why this is happening to me and what I can do to fix it?? I have my setting as u did.
Great work, i thought something like this was possible, but i was having a hard time sorting it out. I’m so pleased to see you creating Blender content, really appreciate all your videos, wanted to offer a small token. Best to you -Keith
agh for some reason when i add the indirect only, still the background is showing :/ i need to toogle off completely the visibility in order to make it work, and i dont understand why
Very interested in the EXR compositing in Davinci. Is there a way to import the EXR so all layers become a node. Because if you have all layers on in blender, it will take very long to copy/paste the same node over and over and changing the layer... Thanks in advance
I could be wrong here, but I don't think the fusion loaders have been updated in a long time to handle that, you might be able to find something in reactor but unless you're doing a LOT of footage, its not really that much work to just copy paste. if you're digging that deep for massive amount of shots you might look into learning nuke.
Since I've started down the Blender/Davinci/Houdini path, and get further away from the Ablowme ecosphere, I see your name pop up almost every single time I'm looking to learn a thing. You are awesome. This time I involuntarily remarked aloud, "Casey F*&^ing Faris!" But in a really nice and loving way. I think I might love you. But not in a stalkery-way. Like a non-kissing cousin way.
I really thought I’d be able to render out these passes separately to reduce the scene’s overall RAM but it literally does nothing for memory and is still failing. Anyone know how to fix this?
What reduces RAM is separating the render into different LAYERS, that you then render one at a time. The PASSES of each layer are not "separating" the output, they are just outputting additional, more detailed info, so I don't think they reduce anything.
This tutorial is better than most "blender gurus" It would be great to see blender vfx tutorials from you
this tutorial explains the passes and viewlayers thoroughly and clearly. thanks for this
Great video! I'm glad I stayed around for the purple stool.

Very helpful and clear delivery, thanx.
I'd love to see passes and viewlayers being combined at the same time
very nice Casey, also make another video on how to do colour management after this. 💡
Thank you so much my man, you really saved my file
nice! i would love to see one on using ACES and getting the colors corrected to be as in blender
more more more more please #keepfilming
Interesting feature!
This video was a life saver thank you!
This is awesome!! Are you planning to do a tutorial(s) on how to match a blender scene to a real scene? I.e. lighting, camera angles, etc
best bet is to always document everything. time of day, month, camera lenses, light types, etc.. you can create an HDRI of the scene and use that to light in blender. if you can't create an actual HDRI you can use something like google maps on your phone to take a 360 picture for reflections and lighting. blender 3 now has really good shadow catchers as well which helps.
that was very helpful! thank you very much!
Thank you, Casey. it really helps. Do you have a video on how to do the same with animation?
Thanks for the Tut - unfortunately in OPENEXR multi there is no RGBA option. That whole "color" option is missing.
Have you been able to find out why that is so? I have the same issue and can't seem to find a solution!!
you got your self a subscriber.
YEEEESSS 😭😭
Yes
Nice tutorial....
1. can we render sequence same way ?
2. how to render separate passes in .PNG sequence ?
Part 2 suggestion: Dust bunnies, one sock, a dime and a piece of popcorn to go against the wall with your stool and blanket or maybe as asset that are part of your living room by the couch "video."
Very useful video
Good tutorial, can you show us How can we use Ao pass? When I multiply AO gets black in the background.
It was this easy but still no other UA-cam channel do it the way you did😶
Thank you!
Nice!
for the purple tool, have you considere using a cryptomate ?
excellent 👍
you r vey help full person but can you explain more about layer separation for me or people who don't no how to use it
Gone into Blender!
I've been looking for this for AGES !!!!!! there's a lot of information on the render layers but nobody shows you how to do it in a room set.
Enjoyed the tutorial. Could you give some good examples of uses for this. I would imagine it's largely for green screen.
Just a quick question can you render using a graphics card in the free version or only in the paid version? Also your blender videos are so helpful!👌
thank u casey

What kind of computer do you use and what are the specs?
Could you please show me how to do this in Blender's Compositor?
How do you to this with an exr sequence? Does it work the same way?
Can I grade each of these layers speratly in the color page?
I'm curious, how does the compositor in Blender compare against Fusion?
Me too!
Thanks!

Is it possible to render an animation for each layer and not just one frame?
agh for some reason when i add the indirect only, still the background is showing :/ i need to toogle off completely the visibility in order to make it work, and i dont understand why
Bro can I also composit image seq in this layer

Absolutely couldn't be happier seeing you cover blender, taught me resolve and fusion, now time for blender on the new macbook
Wow that's super cool. Thank you!

*blushes
Can we export an animation this way? (multilayer exr sequence)
Yup
