This is the energy every live band should aspire to achieve. You can just see how much the music matters to them. They’re having more fun than the audience
Not to mention this is the most restrained performance this band ever performed.
To be fair, if Greg walked out on stage and he said he had some songs he wants to play and you're going to sit there and listen to them. I'm going to sit there.

This is one of my favorite Dillinger escape plan songs and seems so surreal they were on Conan

@@joshuapocalypse just because this is one of their favorite songs doesn't mean they don't listen to their entire discography man. i've listened to all their releases multiple times over and i still have the most affinity for MM and Ire Works. this song whips ass.

Conan always had balls with musical acts, even though this song is super tame by comparison to their typical style. But it's still my favorite DEP song.
I remember he had Slipknot on in the early 2000s as well.
Conan will always stand at the top of the late night game for me for this and always supporting Faith no More when they had a new album out. You just know he has great taste in music. And used his platform to give exposure to the bands he wanted to break. Gotta respect that
David Letterman was also really good with stuff like that. Now people just want to see acts they already know, and complain if they've never heard of the musical guest.
For sure, him and Letterman always had/have bangers. TBF, Kimmel and Leno surprised me a couple of times with acts like APC or M83 but Letterman has consistently had quality bands on

This song just drips with Faith No More influence; it absolutely could have been on King for a Day or something.

We all used to do that shit back in the 90s, I was In a band called Since The Fall that played with them a lot in PA at the BassMint, Ben is a lot smaller than me so he could jump off shit, but I convulsed and stabbed my guitar at the crowd. We all were spazzing out and shit and getting in the crowd at these eye level DIY shows. This was the Dimitri Years 97-99. All the Mathcore/Metalcore/Screamo bands went apeshit live back in the day.

Even on a late night set, they still played with that DEP signature energy and with Greg climbing on top of everything. Can't believe it's already been 5 years.

Saw them on the Summer Slaughter Tour when they were touring on One of Us Is The Killer album. Still top 5 bands I've seen live along with Deftones, August Burns Red, Thrice, Story of the Year.
This is the most subdued DEP performance I've ever seen from the boys

Was so proud when I saw them on Conan, I used to gig them starting before they had a name and known as "that crazy band that covers Slayer" and then the first EP with the Doll came out and it changed a lot of people's style. I got to play with bands like Unearth, Overcast, ShadowsFall, Hatebreed, Earth Crisis, Poison the Well, Boy Sets Fire etc, it was amazing to see how far they got at this point and then became legends. We played the show Relapse caught them, if they weren't there could have been us or another band, but someone would have picked them up. It upp3d my stage game too 😅
I played with Glass Casket and my favorite time touring EVER was with Dillinger during an east and west tour. Some of the most fun I've ever had.

I remember watching an interview where they talked about this. They said Conan's people were pretty adamant that they could play this song or not play at all. DEP knew this wasn't very representative of their sound but they decided to take the opportunity regardless.

I remember seeing DEP with this line up when they were promoting Ire Works on tour and they blew the joint up here in Detroit. Chris Pennie was the best drummer anyone could ever have, and there was no way anyone could fill his shoes, but Gil Sharone did some really good drums on Ire Works before they got Billy Rymer. Their old rhythm guitarist Brian Benoit was really awesome too, but Jeff Tuttle did a great job taking his place after he got injured.

@DannyCaught yeah I know mike sang for them but he also came out way earlier so they probably were influenced by him. Mike may be a fan but he still came out way before they did and they wanted him to sing for them so obviously they are influenced by him and knew about him long before he fronted there band.

I fucking love Dillinger, I really, really do. But I'm sorry, they sound God awful live. I get it, its a vibe and they bring amazing energy, but I see no reason why they shouldn't have been able to get their live sound together. Maybe it's a technological thing, maybe it's a lack of vocal prowess, I don't know. I just wish they had sounded stronger live when they were together. In any case, long live Dillinger.
Listen to Live Infinity w Dimitri on vocals during the Calculating Infinity/Under The Runner Board era - it absolutely rips and it’s when the band was at its apex firing on all cylinders

It's a masterpiece of an album, but the choice was always going to be to either broaden the scope of their styles, or break up.
