  • Everyone has those bad days every now and then, unfortunately I was having several of them during this build. With a deadline closing in and no extra material on hand, I had to get creative when it came to fixing the mistakes.
Since I was in a rush, I didn't really give the repairs much thought and just went with the first idea that came to mind. In doing so, they turned out to have some unexpected results, that I think you will want to see!
How would you have fixed these mistakes? What you would have done different or even the same? Let me know in the comments
Ultimately I think, the pattern doors really make this the nicest piece I've ever made. If you want to see how those are made check that video out here.

I feel your pain with the mess ups. This makes it even harder to film your work. Thanks for your honesty. Great job , very inspiring.

I actually mess up more when filming. Likely from thinking about getting the shot, rather than the task at hand. Thanks!

Great video, I learned a lot watching it! We all make mistakes and I'm glad someone is willing to post a video showing them, too many woodworkers post "perfect" projects. The whole point is to share and learn.

Turned out nicely. I might add, this might be the nicest piece of 'outdoor' furniture I've seen anyone create. I'm curious how the piece weathers. Thanks for sharing your work. I know making these videos is no small task. 👍🏼

Honestly after finishing it I dreaded the thought of leaving it outside, but it's been there for about 8 month and it seems to be holding up pretty well. The handles are starting to rust a bit, some oil or wax should help that. Also the lid doesn't sit as flush some days depending on the humidity. Thanks for watching!

Don't worry about the mistakes. I was building cabinets for my miter station and screwed up twice when making one of the base cabinets. Awesome build and beautiful cabinet.

Enjoyed your video. The cabinet looks very impressive. It's one of those jobs you'll love to forget. I'm surprised you've got some hair left. Tony

Thank you for including your mistakes. Honestly the best lessons from the video. I’m just beginning and I’m ok with my mistakes but it’s one of those things where I just quit for a day or move in because it takes a while for novel solutions to come to me. Eventually I’ll have a deeper pocket of workarounds to come from but I have to experience the mistake to remember not to do it or what to do when it happens. I feel like sharing your mistakes was similar to experiencing them, for instance sharing measuring from the outside corner in that bad dado. It’s baked in me now to double check that as if I made the bad cut. Or at least when I do it will feel like the 2nd time. Very effective teaching sir.
    And killer build!

Thanks, glade you enjoyed it! I have made and still make plenty of mistakes. I just fix them and try to remember next time but sometimes it just happens. I leave them in the video to show the real process of making something.

Good job on the build, I like how you showed your mistakes, and how you fixed them. What looked like major mistakes, go unnoticed in the end.

Just found your channel and I did subscribe.
Please in your future videos, show how you fix your mistakes. For me, this set you apart from other UA-camrs.

Nice job editing and problem solving. I can't tell you how many times I've made similar mistakes. My most recent one was relocating our HVAC thermostat and thought I was drilling through a double stud... turns out there was only 1 stud and I drilled through the side of the brand new built in cabinets I just finished in our master closet. IDIOT!! nothing a little wood putty and paint can't fix though.

If you can fix it then its not a mistake its just added character... At least that's what I kept telling myself during this build lol Thanks buddy!

this is what frustrates me about you tube. You have a lot of expensive tools, and you're making videos, and I can see that you've used a lot of other you tube peoples ideas for your shop and tools, But before you make videos and try to show people how to be a woodworker, you should learn how to be a woodworker first, and learn proper techniques. You can't learn that from you tube, Because no one on you tube is a skilled craftsperson. Because we don't have time to make videos, we're too busy with our own work.
