Since I found your channel, I am was binge-watching your videos. Absolutely amazing! Can't see a reason why over a million subscribers shouldn't be possible for you!
Made it here from Blacktail. I'm a consultant and know all too well the impostor syndrome of dealing with people who earn a kajillion times as much as me and make it look easy. Let me say from this work and video making: Cam was lucky to work with *you*.
Cam seems like a stellar dude. I love his work and videos. But resin tables are resin tables. And that IS craftsmanship. But what you are found doing over here on your channel is often extremely impressive to me. I’m a graduate of James Krenov’s College of The Redwoods, and a longtime woodworker. I don’t get impressed very easily. Keep it up Brother.
@@SawyerDesign it was the year after krenov retired. He still came around occasionally. Laura was in her 2nd year and not yet on staff. So it was Michael Burns, Dave Welter, Jim Budlong, Greg Smith (f’ing genius) and Eijler Hjorth-Westh. It was a great experience but you are beyond anything they could teach you in a school. Honestly.
Sunburst. A sunburst shows the creativity and attention to detail of the creator. I make slab tops often but appreciate the energy it takes to match veneers together to achieve the "perfect" look.
Came here from black tail studio! I must say this was the best Collaboration I have ever seen! It sucks the table was to high in moisture in the end! I think y’all should work together again but in the same shop, either yours or his!! What a beautiful piece
I watched Cam's video first, so I knew what was coming. BEAUTIFUL table base! You should be proud of it. I'm in the process of building a pedestal base for a marble table top for my mother. It's a repurposed marble porch table top that she wants to use at her new house. The base is all White Oak. Designing the base has been a challenge. No where near as fancy as your base, but it's the first table base, and is acting as a practice/prototype for a circular dining table she wants us to make using some American Chestnut wood her Father had harvested a LONG time ago, and that's been sitting in her garage for decades. We only get one shot with that wood!!
SLAB: I've been watching both Cam and your vids for a while now. Cam is insanely good at his speciality, and you're one of the most creative woodworkers I have ever seen. I'll happily cover shipping to The Netherlands btw ;)
curiositystream.com/Sawyer for an entire year of Curiosity Stream for just $14.99! 🌟GIVEAWAY DETAILS🌟 *WINNER WILL ABSOLUTELY /*NOT*/ be selected using a third-party text app such as telegram.* Comment 'SUNBURST' or 'SLAB' to Enter. SUNBURST! I added the exclamation point because I thought it was necessary. I appreciate your humor and demeanor in the face of adversity. Believe it or not, it helps with my own little problems. Keep up the imaginative work.
Don't know how I tripped into watching this collab but wow on both parts of this table/wall art. Not a wood worker but enjoy watching the process. The starburst pattern reminds me of some fabric piecing I've done for quilts. I love the way it looks and believe it would make a beautiful table top. Sorry I missed out on the giveaway. Never work when hungry or tired. Congratulations on living in the grey zone. Great place to be. Best to you. Thanks for sharing.
Sunburst please. Love how you look at this as a learning process and don't look at it as a failure. I need more of this attitude in my life please. The design is just gorgeous, and I'm sure you two will make it happen! Can't wait for the next video!
Here from Cam’s video Your work is so creative and fun The trial-and-error process was so much fun to watch as well I hope that you both can recover quickly and do another collab, and with succes🤞 (I’m just a fine arts graduate and artist, but I can say that I somewhat understand what you guys went through)
Sunburst for sure! I just feel like having that radial pattern throughout the top and base would really work well together! Amazing build and thank you for failing 😂
Honestly, I would be happy with either, but have really enjoyed working with slabs. Seriously I am just blown away watching your videos, as well as Cams. We all already won.
Don’t beat yourself up man, it’s a beautiful table & I know all too well that you can have a design idea in your head but how to execute it can soak up hours of head scratching making sure this next step isn’t going to bite you in the butt later on or worse - ruin the piece. Amazing job!! I also agree that this table in an entry way with a tall vase of flowers in the middle would show off the craftsmanship to everyone who visits the clients house better than as a dining table.
You are my hero for using a vacuum bag. Most woodworker have zero concept of how much clamping force vacuum bagging can exert and how uniform the force is. A full vacuum is -14.7 pounds per square inch (PSI), a full vacuum is impossible but depending on your vacuum pump it is possible to get close. Lets say you wanted to clamp together three 30"x 96" sheets of Baltic Birch plywood to make a workbench top and you put them in a vacuum bag to clamp them while the glue dried. Let us say you used a vacuum of -14 PSI, your work piece is 30x96= 2,880 sqft, multiply that by 14 PSI and you get a whopping clamping pressure of 40,320lbs! If you wanted to use 8"x8"x16" cinder blocks(38LBS each) to try to get the same clamping pressure it would take 1,061 blocks! And..... the stack would be 39.3 feet tall....Damn It is too bad the curved pieces were not 100% structural and the octagonal core was hidden up inside the top of the curved pieces with the steel pipe inside i.e. the steel pipe does not connect the base on the floor to the underside of the table base.
Slab! Cant believe the insane amount of work that went into making this. It truly is beautiful. Also, with all the calculations that go into making these your high school math teacher must be proud.
Slab! I tell my kids all the time that I never learned much from my successful projects but boy oh boy, I sure learn a ton from my failures. Well done. Many thanks.
Slab: Literally just found your channel and shared with my husband. We have just built a woodshop for him and we have been watching all kinds of videos on wood working projects to do. You are now on our list of must see videos.
Honestly. Having the choice just gives me the opportunity to say that I would love to see your creativity at work and see what you would match it with.
Sunburst - The results speak for themselves on this project. Beautiful work, and it takes a lot of guts and creativity to take on something as complex as your design. I'm glad it worked out!
Personally, I like both, having the radial veneer pattern on both the top and base makes for a cohesive piece, not really drawing the eyes to one specific area, but the live edge slab top combined with your table base evokes the funky, organic nature of trees, lending to the viewer’s curiosity to ingest visually the beauty of another’s interpretation of nature through an artfully created piece, great job, both of you!
SUNBURST: I love that you push your skills to the limit no matter how much of a time crunch you're in. Too much YT woodworking is about "nobody will ever see this part, so pocket screws are fine". Craftsmanship is about even the parts nobody will ever notice! Love your videos man!
Sunburst looks fantastic, especially with the cathedral grain! You don't see too many tables get a V3. Hopefully it all comes together on the next step!
Sunburst , truly unbelievable. The Magic is in where the bent lamination comes to meet the bottom how flawless it looks, melts right into the bottom. I would be proud to show off that show piece.
SUNBURST! Usually I would be all for a slab but that base is a beauty and I feel a sunburst would match great! Absolutely gorgeous final product with Cams slab top though. Can’t wait to see his video and how/if he fixes the high moisture content.
Came over from Blacktail and like what I see. Thank you for the entertainment as I am not able to afford my own tools to do wood working, I have many hobbies but wood working is my passion. God bless
Sunburst or slab, both equally beautiful in their own way. I love the complexity of your builds and the fact that your shop is small comes through in you videos. It gives us inspiration to not be limited by your environment. Thanks
Sunburst: man, you are taking building furniture to a next level! I’m not a wood worker but I can’t wait to see when one of yours videos are out! Same goes for Cam, I pretty much watch him since he started.
The product that you shared in this video is the result of your art, creativity and skill. In addition to your abilities, those who are interested can also benefit from educational tips.
I subscribed because Cam encouraged it. You are different, but both do quality, beautiful work. You’re both artists. I hope you’ll do another collaboration.

Sunburst!! I love cams videos but your furniture is more my style, would love to see you make a full piece with all your incredible veneer work. Thanks!!
Right on.. both videos were good. I thoroughly enjoyed your perception of the " failure " project.. seems you know there is no such thing as failure unless you fail to learn something.. some lessons are more costly than others.. you both are wonderful and creative craftsmen. ❤
Sunburst for me no doubt. That is sooooo beautiful and you have vaulted to the top of my favorite YT subscriptions. If you ever need an apprentice, I like long walks on the beach, The Black Keys, bourbon, the Oxford comma, and walnut. Cheers bud!!
SUNBURST Sawyer, you’re really outdoing yourself with series. Your video production is reaching a quality that I wouldn’t even expect from a woodworking technology business like Kreg or Rockler. Your style has always been unique, but you’re approaching a level of creativity and talent that is going to really make things happen for you. Sky’s the limit for you. I started pursuing woodwork as a hobby 3 years ago, but I knew I wanted to make it my day job after the first year. Since then, it’s been a struggle getting a solid focus. I’ve done nothing but collect tools and scraps for 2 years, outside of building my shop fixtures. I now rent 3 single car garages without electricity, and have just completed my first poured table. SUNBURST! Wow, what an incredible level of attention to detail and proficiency! I thought I was thorough, but your work inspires me to be more patient in my creations!
Slab: I'm a fellow Oregon woodworker and I feel inspired every time I see your videos. I was never a fan of veneer work until I saw what you were able to do with your builds and it really just blows my mind every single time. Your videos are always great and I love how you found your style of woodworking and continue to push yourself to new limits. Keep it up!
Slab! I'd really love either actually but I had to pick one! Done correctly they can both be beautiful in their own ways. A sunburst is beautiful to me in the craftsmanship as it is the wood while a big slab of walnut oiled up nice is just nature's beauty on full display in my opinion! Can't wait to see the second half next week!
sunburst design, amazing amount of detailed comment, jig implementation/layout and processes that i greatly appreciate to help on my woodworking journey.
Sunburst: The sunburst design really complements the base design. The level of detail in the base construction is incredible. I am so glad that I found your channel. Keep up the great work.
Saw your collab with Blacktail. I love the table and am not phased at all about the concerns you both had with the end result. I know makers are really hard on themselves; I'm a part-time photographer and am super exacting about my deliverables. Still, you both create beautiful and functional art. Keep doing it!
SUNBURST I didn't see a video for the top yet, so I figured I might as well try. I just discovered your channel, and you inspired me to make my wife something for our anniversary rather then buying her something. Thanks!
SUNBURST: Man you've grown so much in the last 8 months I've been following! So glad to see you pushing through and making content. One-of-a-kind artwork you make.
Radial match veneer top. I fell in love with Cam's design style and videos a while ago, and have made a few live edge epoxy table tops now. Very fun, and quite pleased with the result. Radial matched veneer though? Oh god. A bit out of my skill level to say the least. So much respect for those that attempt/succeed at that. That said, your channel has been awesome as its made me look at design in a different way. I've found a marriage between clean-lined mid-mod/modern design and elegant details that I didn't really think about before you. Thanks :)
Sunburst - I use to hate the thought of veneer but I've seen some really beautiful pieces of antique furniture that uses it with sunburst patterns and other cool designs. Love the work!
Sunburst. Damn the ending was initially a bummer to see the wobble but after some thought it’s perfect for these two channels. It sums up the never ending challenge I’m sure we all deal with of practicality vs unique design! I love the finished product aesthetic wise it was truly incredible.
I came over from Blacktail I admire you guys honesty and WOW your woodworking is at another level thankyou for sharing...I for one am another subscriber
Great video man! If anyone is curious about my epic failure and what is next, I elaborate a little more in my video. Out 6/2/22
I've been excited to see this project in full for months, can't wait!
Thanks Cam! Can’t wait to see your edit
Can't Wait Cam!!
Waiting with bated breath
Two days before my birthday. An awesome present to be sure! Even if you consider it a failure. I'll consider it an educational experience as always!

Thanks for taking Cam up on making the base. I learned a few things watching your video! 👍😃 Very nice pedestals, too!

Sunburst for sure. Epic table. I am sure a bistro sized top will work perfect. Congrats on the collaboration
SLAB. My brain melted a little until I saw you blue taping this together. Super creative. Bravo
Woodworker from East TN here and just wanted to stop in and say your work definitely doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I like the more artistic side of woodworking and love how you push the more artistic side. Keep up the great work my freind!
Hey thanks so much!
That is a beautiful table, it is a statement piece. I would use it as a dining room table so it could be displayed for everyone to see as they come in and then sit down for a meal.
I usually go for slab furniture when I buy it, but the most beautiful pieces I own are veneer that I inherited from my grandparents. This is one of the few modern pieces that I actually like, it has real character, something that I usually don’t see in today’s furniture!
It’s definitely an art that’s not so common in today’s manufacturing. Thanks so much!
Walnut being my favorite wood second is Cherry. Both are so beautiful. I really enjoyed this video. Your skill is outstanding. Great work. Really glad you didn't give up.
Sunburst!! I love cams videos but your furniture is more my style, would love to see you make a full piece with all your incredible veneer work. Thanks!!

SUNBURST love to see you learning from version one, and the rework that required. Both are beautiful pedestals.
Sunburst for me no doubt. That is sooooo beautiful and you have vaulted to the top of my favorite YT subscriptions. If you ever need an apprentice, I like long walks on the beach, The Black Keys, bourbon, the Oxford comma, and walnut. Cheers bud!!
The top?! Sweet haha thanks Nathan. Ain’t got time for walks or beaches, but all about the music, comma, and wood.
I'm a long time subscriber of blacktail studios I'm glad you did a collaboration with him cause I found another great channel to watch
SUNBURST
Sawyer, you’re really outdoing yourself with series. Thanks so much! Yeah I’d love to check it out
came here from Cam's page of course, so I can't help but compare: (1) your video editing skills are much higher quality and (2) SO MUCH MORE MATH
Sunburst just adds a whole other dimension to it. Love your videos. Your work inspires me to do more with my own woodworking.
SLAB: The colab with Cam is just amazing.I hope you see a boost in viewers from it!
Thanks Bill! Me too haha
Slab - Amazing detail and work! I will also remember "not your fingers, not your problem" forever!
Sunburst. That is beautiful. Really love your work. Love that you show your mistakes. When you have lemons you make lemonade. Really awesome, bud!👍
Hey thanks! Really appreciate it
My preference for the table is a slab. I like seeing the imperfections and the more natural state of the wood. Both are amazing
SLAB. Blurring that line between craft and art! Love the collaboration idea, too.
SUNBURST for sure. Unbelievable the amount of attention and effort that you put into each layer of the base.
Sunburst. And thanks for posting videos where the results aren't perfect. Great to see the process of fixing things that didn't go as planned!
SUNBURST! Wow, what an incredible level of attention to detail and proficiency! I thought I was thorough, but your work inspires me to be more patient in my creations!
SUNBURST. Seriously dude, you and Cam are two of my favorite designers - period. So this collab is just over the top awesome for me!

SUNBURST this is absolutely a perfect blend of artwork/engineering/craftsmanship.

I’m at about the 10 minute mark and my mind just popped. What magic is this bending??? I clearly need to go watch some previous videos 😮
Subscribed because of Blacktail UA-cam channel. Please do more collab. You pedestal 2.0 matched his table so well!
Sunburst yes !!! Love to see great woodworker collaborating on a art/craft project. Beautiful
SUNBURST is amazingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing the process!
SLAB: Walnut wood is so beautiful. I have also used walnut veneer with one of my project and it became very nice.
SUNBURST I didn't see a video for the top yet, so I figured I might as well try. I just discovered your channel, and you inspired me to make my wife something for our anniversary rather then buying her something. Thanks!
Hey awesome! Thanks Lance. That build’s up next so you made it in time!
SUNBURST: Man you've grown so much in the last 8 months I've been following! So glad to see you pushing through and making content. One-of-a-kind artwork you make.
Appreciate it drew. Glad the work is showing!
Thanks :)
Radial matched top!! Just started veneering at work yesterday and I am so hooked!!!
Sunburst - I use to hate the thought of veneer but I've seen some really beautiful pieces of antique furniture that uses it with sunburst patterns and other cool designs. Love the work!
Live edge slab for sure! Can’t go wrong with a slab. I think having both the sunburst on bottom and slab on top would look great!
Sunburst. Damn the ending was initially a bummer to see the wobble but after some thought it’s perfect for these two channels. It sums up the never ending challenge I’m sure we all deal with of practicality vs unique design! I love the finished product aesthetic wise it was truly incredible.
100% radial sunburst! Much more elegant to match the base
First, I would prefer sunburst. Second, and more importantly, I dream of being this talented. Awesome work.
Sunburst, of course. Really admire how you (both) stick to it to get it right. Table looks great and you are a creative person.
Thanks scott! too deep to quit at this point haha
I came over from Blacktail I admire you guys honesty and WOW your woodworking is at another level thankyou for sharing...I for one am another subscriber
I think the matched radial pattern would look amazing. Slab tops are gorgeous, but having the radial theme throughout would just be 👌
sunburst baby! looks amazing! best of human ingenuity making mother nature look her best!
ugh the commenter on this thread Is a scammer. i almost got GOT!
Working on getting rid of this. Sorry Gabriel!
