They are from Sweden, and that album “the shape of punk to come” was so groundbreaking when it came out in ‘99. I still jam the hell out of it to this day.
That whole album, in a word... "Abrasive". A hardcore album that was supposed to piss of hardcore kids. Everything is either repeated too many times or not enough, transitions are abrupt and usually occur in weird places, chaotic timing elements borrowed from avant garde jazz. Probably one of the most ambitious punk albums ever made, and they flat out nailed it.
“Liberation Frequency” is another great one from this album that you should react to. Dennis actually sings the verses of that one, and they’ve got an almost Police-like ska kind of feel, but then the chorus is just a full-on hardcore punk onslaught with screamed vocals.
Well, someone has an absolute classic of an album to listen to, The Shape of Punk To Come. I'm incredibly lucky to have seen them live as a teenager, when they still did tiny venues.
ALL OF THE YES FOR THIS. this track had minor radio success. they wrote this masterpiece of an album and then broke up halfway thru their tour supporting it. :(
Absolute classic of a song! I actually dug most of their Shape of Punk to Come album. Defined the genre really, this song is 24 years old! If you ever wanted to check out another song, try The Deadly Rhythm :)
HAHAHa OMG my man in the states react to an old swedish punkhardcore music from the 90's :) I mean you really need this NOW. Irmemebr back in that time people went insane listening to these guys like. Check theses songs out "Pump the brakes" and "rather be dead" or hook line n sinker" its kinda late to the revolution party but yeah the revolution never happened. Meanwhile refused been known in europe for awhile.....dont get me wrong im both proud and surprised you enjoy this. Makes me wanna stage dive again :p
OMFG Yes. Rather Be Dead is my all-time favorite Refused song. It's the first song I ever saw them play back when I was a teenager. Damn, I gotta go have a new listen to it right now.

I saw them in 2012 on their reunion tour. They were amazing. The shape of punk to come is a phenomenal record.
If anyone wants to know more about the history of this band and song the channel Trash Theory did a really good video about them.

Hate not enough people recognise the influence this song, and entire album, had on punk and hardcore at the time

ISSUES - "Boyfriend" (Justin Bieber Punk Goes Pop cover)
This is what spawned bands like Lincoln Park
That record changed everything and only sold like 12k copies. They broke up after release and everyone copied them.

Song also was on a movie called "Triangle of Sadness," right when all the toilets exploded. :)
Interesting these guys broke up after this album coz no one showed up to shows, then after got fucken huge, then rejoined like 20 years later
Most peeps are afraid to react to this song, I commend you sir.
