This is one of my favorite things to look forward to every year! Thanks for continuing to do this! You and Andrew are some of the coolest people in the world and we need more people like you.
It’s funny Andrew usually brings the most poignant song to 1st of October but Rob knocked it out of the park on “it’s time to move on” like out of context if I heard that song I’d be like “woah cool I need to look up this band” and then I’d be like infinite knives? Let’s fight? Greg?
One of my favorite things about this project is the dichotomy of we made a bunch of silly songs and then oh yeah here's something incredibly serious just in the middle to hit you in the feels.
Easily my favorite FOO album so far. Rob fucking *crushed it* this year, too! It's so good to see him back to being himself again, that makes me so happy
That is so beautifully said. Andrew and Rob are the only ones that make me root for retro fighting music and make me shed a tear for indie folk heartbreakers in the same album.
even given how many beautiful moments have come from this project, “change what i can change and carry on” may just be one of the best 1st of october lyrics ever
I feel like it was unintentional, but Greg Milk is a character in a recent game UFO 50. It's a collection of 50 NES inspired games made by a fictional game company Ufosoft, and Greg Milk is a fictional game developer who put a meta game inside of the collection. If it was a intentional reference - thumbs up If it was unintentional - what a coincidence
5:35 "Punching in a dungeon". In UFO 50 there's literally a dungeon crawler with a Punch Out style combat. "Punching"-"dungeon" is also a simple rhyme that they totally could've just stumbled into, so once again, could be unintentional, but really makes me wonder if it is.
I'm guessing it's totally coincidental ☺️ Greg has been a recurring character for First of October and the guy who played Greg just happened to come in with some milk ahaha You can watch Rob's behind the scenes video on the album this year for the info! 😊
Love how this and the last two feel more like concept albums, the video game theme and the beatles studio really helped you find new vibes and keep up the originality! Awesome job 😍
First of October captures that special feeling that you get the first time you create and you're so proud of the stupid little beautiful thing you made. And thanks to you both, every year I remember that special feeling and I feel more and more motivated to live a life of creativity and enjoy every moment of it. Thanks Andrew and Rob, this means the world to me.
62 if you're counting The Eleventh Song from GREG (which you should else i will go to your house and replace all your smooth peanut butter with chunky)
I think they meant not to count the first song of this album which is 2 seconds, but I would still count it because it is a separate track@@krysisAvertedd
This album actually plays out like the experience of playing a video game with the song order: Start!- You loaded up your console Round 6- The theme song to the new game you’re excited about Dungeon Man- The background music as you start exploring and playing this new game Day Old Milk- You’re on some side quest for a villager in the early game Final Boss- You’ve entered the boss fight, probably too early Infinite Lives- The previous boss fight was too difficult due to your current progress, and you wish you had infinite lives Same Old Game- You’re grinding up the levels, maybe meeting some other party members to help I’m a Full Grown Man And I’m Wearing A Retainer- Another side quest, however while this one is short, for some reason has a very powerful item as a reward Let’s Fight- You’re fighting your way up to the boss again Infinite Knives- You’re back at the boss fight, but now you’re very powerful and more confident, and you defeat them It’s Time To Move On- The bittersweet feeling after you’re fully beaten the game, and while you’ve had fun, it is now finished and you need to move on to another one I don’t know if this is what they were going for but whether intentional or not they nailed it. Or I’m just putting too much thought into it. Love the album either way, and I’m glad Rob is doing better!
That’s actually really well thought out. I don’t think they planned it that way, but you did. And it works. Cause I mean, you gotta remember they do it random every year.
I sincerely hope that you had as much fun making that album as you appeared to have. It's a pleasure to watch two such talented musicians at work (not forgetting the rest of the crew!). Thank you for making our lives a little brighter.
infinite lives resonates with me more than i can describe, to the point where i wonder why every single comment on this video isn't talking about it, and i have to remember that not everyone is me!! beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Please don't let it's time to move on be the last first of October song. Please This album is amazing. A lot of hip hop and heavy elements. I love the quirky stuff and I love you brought Greg back
You guys have almost been a band a whole week! But seriously, can't believe it's been six (seven?) years since the first First Of October album. Rob struggled so much last year that we all would have understood if you called it quits, but you kept this silly, beautiful thing going and it's something I look forward to every year. Thank you and can't wait for the first of october 2025!
I've been a fan since the initial release and I'm so glad to see Rob doing a lot better than where he was last year! "Infinate Lives" sounds like it belongs in Life is Strange. Congrats on another amazing journey, fellas!
That final song is such an emotional tug!!! Thank you Rob and Andrew for being such inspiring individuals, and being one of the most incredible musical groups of all time. Every year, FoO reminds me of what's possible, regardless of time frame, of outside factors, regardless of all of that - this duo will continue to be one of my favourite things on this platform, on the internet, and in my life. Keep doing amazing things, and I can't wait for the next installment!
“Infinite Lives” was such a lovely way to start my day with bass practice! 😊 Noodled about on the higher strings between your actual bass bit and the guitar part ☺️ occasionally doing counterpoint but mostly just underlining your phrases. I correctly predicted and played the ending phrase in unison with yous all, and now I’m going to go cook breakfast! 😄
The fun ones are as much of a blast as ever, but it must be said that the "serious" ones here (i.e. Infinite Lives, Same Old Game, and It's Time to Move On) are unironically absolutely incredible songs.
I commented it on Rob's vid for this, too, but i'm so happy to see him in such better spirits this time around, and i'm SO HAPPY for another fantastic year of FOO! I love how often so many songs turn into reflecting on how good friends you all are, and keeping the positivity going through it all. And then the rest of the songs are the best kind of manic creativity jumbled into a mash of silly musical genius!😂 Love you guys, and thanks for another great year of FOO!❤🤙
Each year, I watch the album videos with my friend who is halfway across the world from me. It's been our yearly tradition. Thank you Rob and Andrew and the team ❤
Man seeing the clips from past FOO albums during its time to move on made me instantly fucking break down in tears. Knowing what Rob was going through last year, those lyrics are not just gimmicky. They are true to him. It’s so sad to think we almost lost him, there is so much pure love from everyone in the audience. I’m so glad Rob has learned to work through his problems in such a healthy way and is back and firing on all cylinders creatively.
Bear bells in a breakdown has to be the most Rob and Andrew idea ever!! It was such a blast watching two music legends at work! Congratulations on another FOO!!!
You two have got to be one of the best partnerships on youtube ever. You keep on making great stuff, and I love this one. I like how the random fight shots got incorporated in Let's Fight!
You guys always crush it, but Infinite Lives was especially moving to me. That "will you still be there?" Line is such a well written line both lyrically and musically. I'm always going back to it. Seriously amazing work from both of you on this album.
I'm so happy to follow this journey from the beginning. a little note, beside that i love each song, is that i realized the ONE deep song Rob writes is always my favourite. It's Time to Move On is truly a gem
It really feels like you get to hang out with two friends for a few hours. It's really sad when the experience is coming to end, knowing that it will be another year with so many ups and downs to go through, before you get to experience this again (in this context -- outside of their other videos). The last song is a perfect closing track, and exemplifies this exact bittersweet feeling of having to move on. Thanks to you and @robscallon for sharing this beautiful collaboration with us! ❤
giving this a second listen after rob's video, so good 😄 your clarity of purpose and execution under pressure is a marvel to behold. i get that you're career musicians and this is round 6 but that doesn't diminish the effort, you and the team give it everything each time and the cumulative experience just means the result is even more impressive
Every first of October you get me singing "It's the first of October again!" and I can't wait to see what joys that year brings. This has to be one of the most special yet, Infinate Lives and It's Time To Move On both made me cry. And greg,
I love how the different instrumentation makes the album. Pitching for next year: a digital drum pad loaded up with classic drumbreak chops, a playable vocoder / harmonizer / autotune for adding strange vocals on the fly and perhaps something like a portablism SC1000 for making strange effects.
I love how you're surrounded with cutting edge electronics, but choose to highlight the cute bear bells. Something about that hits me right in the feels.
there's surely something similar to the bear bells but that rings out longer. like. same volume but it just takes longer to fade out completely.| this is fantastic though, as always. yall are incredible. you should be proud. you're doing something nobody else is, and its fuckin working, dude.
Bro infinite lives!!! 😭😭😭 👏 ❤ Turned out lovely !! (Watched Rob’s video first, didn’t even realize you were going to post of the songs as well. This is a pleasant surprise!) 🙏
Love this album and love you guys. The last song actually made me cry, it hits too close to home for me and I appreciate you guys so much! Thank you for another incredible album! ❤❤❤
It's honestly so impressive knowing that these were all made in a day, the mastering and the amount of layers of complexity these tracks have is awesome.
Hopefully I will someday be even half the musician that Rob and Andrew are. Truly wonderful, imaginative minds, and each an incredible talent. Bravo, as always, and much love from Michigan.
This annual ritual always impresses me. So much creative energy channeled into such a finite window. And the awe inspiring notion that some of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard have been brainstormed, written out, recorded, and mixed in essentially an HOUR EACH is mind boggling.
A Concept Album in a day... An excellent visual expression thru the journey of cohesive collaborating... Extending the volumes of good universal musical vibes...
“More bear bells 🐻 🛎️ “ needs to be a T-shirt/enamel pin/patch/sticker. Thanks SO MUCH for another day of inspiration and incredibly good vibes. We love you all ❤ Enjoy your 364 days holiday (from this band) 😂
This has to be my favorite one so far. Your friendship and collaboration in these videos gives me a creative high every year. It makes me want to make music again, and I can’t thank you enough for that. Also, “Time to Move On” hit me like a sack of bricks as I am considering a major career change that will hopefully make creative pursuits possible again. But it is so difficult. Thanks to both of you for what you do. ❤
Round 6, Day Old Milk, Infinite Lives, and It's Time To Move On are my favorites this year, and i think this might be my favorite album you've done so far. Yall nailed it
Props to the cinematography and camera work on this and every album. See and appreciating all the talent that goes into a First of October album recording session video fills me with joy. And knowing that this is almost entirely a friends and family operation makes it even better.
Infinite Lives is one of maybe three songs ever to make me ugly cry, good job guys. This year feels like a landmark for this project, can't wait to see what next year brings.
From the bottom of our hearts,
Thanks for being a fan of our one-day-a-year band :)
Your singing was tremendous. Excellent Rob!
It does my heart glad to see you doing so well, given the difficulties you opened up about after last year.
Rob, it felt like you were having to walk on Greg shells for like half the video.
This is one of my favorite things to look forward to every year! Thanks for continuing to do this! You and Andrew are some of the coolest people in the world and we need more people like you.
I’m late to the party, but I’ve been enjoying it the last two years.
average first of october album:
- the most emotionally powerful folk song you'll hear in your life
- greg
The only thing this year is missing is the Monster Mash
What more can you ask for, honestly
@@jamesbedwell8793 It's also missing a song about Andrew's kids, but I think it's good that they mix things up 😂
don’t forget numetal and weezer
- Miracle
- Granddad's Dinner Party.
Getting
Really
Emotional,
Guys
All the comments under this video are bloody excellent, well done
Next year’s album title?
Bear bells carrying the emotional weight of the world in their adorable instrumental bodies
🧸💕
On god
I love my favorite comedy chiptune/cinematic post-rock/horrorcore/djent/country band.
Edit: Forgot Ska.
Forgot greg😂
I would love to see Rob and Andrew make a true ska song.
@@16661toby Dude - FOO with a horn section!!!
And somehow there was a Beatdown fallout on final boss
Word
it just gets better and better each year. 60 songs in six days!
61 actually
62 if you count the intro to this one :)
@@omegraptorch3624 Haha, I was thinking the same all the time as well
63 if you count the don't go re-recording
This is like King Gizzard pace of song writing
It’s funny Andrew usually brings the most poignant song to 1st of October but Rob knocked it out of the park on “it’s time to move on” like out of context if I heard that song I’d be like “woah cool I need to look up this band” and then I’d be like infinite knives? Let’s fight? Greg?
You can check out "Owen", which is the solo project of American Football's Mike Kinsella :) It has a similar vibe!
Know what you mean about Andrew bringing the most poignant songs normally, but don't forget Usually was Rob's creation last year.
One of my favorite things about this project is the dichotomy of we made a bunch of silly songs and then oh yeah here's something incredibly serious just in the middle to hit you in the feels.
Yea temporary in the 2021 album hit me hard in the feels when I first heard it.
They started that tradition with Don't Go (first album)... yeah, FoO ballads just hit different!
That’s wild cause if you think about it, the “silly-serious” dynamic was literally their first idea for a song in their whole discography.
Every year, *every fucking year,* you guys take me from doubled-over laughing to weeping uncontrollably. I love you. Never stop.
I second this motion
Easily my favorite FOO album so far.
Rob fucking *crushed it* this year, too! It's so good to see him back to being himself again, that makes me so happy
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is: more bear bells!
its like a concept album about a guy who dies in game and has an existential crisis
These are moments when I remember youtube music is still alive.
That is so beautifully said. Andrew and Rob are the only ones that make me root for retro fighting music and make me shed a tear for indie folk heartbreakers in the same album.
music youtube I feel like is a better way to put it unless you actually did mean the separate app
even given how many beautiful moments have come from this project, “change what i can change and carry on” may just be one of the best 1st of october lyrics ever
the vibes this time round are immaculate 🙌
Infinite Vibes

In the classic SNES RPG EarthBound there's a character named Dungeon Man which is another definitely unintentional reference that I'm glad they made
I feel like it's coincidence? Crazyyyy
I'm guessing it's totally coincidental ☺️ Greg has been a recurring character for First of October and the guy who played Greg just happened to come in with some milk ahaha
You can watch Rob's behind the scenes video on the album this year for the info! 😊
round 6 explained in few words:

Two of the most heart throbbing, beautiful songs ever created
Nu-metal
Greg
Love how this and the last two feel more like concept albums, the video game theme and the beatles studio really helped you find new vibes and keep up the originality! Awesome job 😍
First of October captures that special feeling that you get the first time you create and you're so proud of the stupid little beautiful thing you made.
And thanks to you both, every year I remember that special feeling and I feel more and more motivated to live a life of creativity and enjoy every moment of it.
Thanks Andrew and Rob, this means the world to me.
Its amazing how much better the quality and polish gets every album. Super creative and great stuff this year!
60 (61 ?) fucking songs ! In 6 days. And now they are so well made and detailed, you would never guess they were done this quickly.
62 if you're counting The Eleventh Song from GREG (which you should else i will go to your house and replace all your smooth peanut butter with chunky)
I think they meant not to count the first song of this album which is 2 seconds, but I would still count it because it is a separate track@@krysisAvertedd
It's Time To Move On is so beautiful.
very Heart is a Drum from Beck blended with Peter Bjorn and John melodic phrasing
also reminds me a bit of "See the Light" by Sparklehorse
bear bells are the mvp of the album
This album actually plays out like the experience of playing a video game with the song order:
Start!- You loaded up your console
Round 6- The theme song to the new game you’re excited about
Dungeon Man- The background music as you start exploring and playing this new game
Day Old Milk- You’re on some side quest for a villager in the early game
Final Boss- You’ve entered the boss fight, probably too early
Infinite Lives- The previous boss fight was too difficult due to your current progress, and you wish you had infinite lives
Same Old Game- You’re grinding up the levels, maybe meeting some other party members to help
I’m a Full Grown Man And I’m Wearing A Retainer- Another side quest, however while this one is short, for some reason has a very powerful item as a reward
Let’s Fight- You’re fighting your way up to the boss again
Infinite Knives- You’re back at the boss fight, but now you’re very powerful and more confident, and you defeat them
It’s Time To Move On- The bittersweet feeling after you’re fully beaten the game, and while you’ve had fun, it is now finished and you need to move on to another one
I don’t know if this is what they were going for but whether intentional or not they nailed it. Or I’m just putting too much thought into it. Love the album either way, and I’m glad Rob is doing better!
That’s actually really well thought out. I don’t think they planned it that way, but you did. And it works. Cause I mean, you gotta remember they do it random every year.
The retainer song is not getting enough love here! Loved it!
As a Greg, I wholly appreciate the Greg content. This year’s is my favourite. Thanks for the theme songs 😅
Thanks for Gregging!
Sufjan Stevens vibes for sure especially with those little bells. Dream state sea of emotion type of thing
It's Time To Move On almost made me cry. Especially when the scenes from previous years appeared. Right in the feels, guys ♥
Please don't let it's time to move on be the last first of October song. Please
This album is amazing. A lot of hip hop and heavy elements. I love the quirky stuff and I love you brought Greg back

Rob was on fire this year great job both of you.
Not really shocked that the album is a 10 out of 10.
That's what you get when you Round 6
(sorry) 😅
This comment is so underrated 😂😂😂
The fun ones are as much of a blast as ever, but it must be said that the "serious" ones here (i.e. Infinite Lives, Same Old Game, and It's Time to Move On) are unironically absolutely incredible songs.
Infinite Knives goes hard in the paint 🔥
Rob's singing has been getting so much better over the years! Really great to hear
I commented it on Rob's vid for this, too, but i'm so happy to see him in such better spirits this time around, and i'm SO HAPPY for another fantastic year of FOO!

Thanks guys for these albums!
Crying now. Thanks a lot. I'll come back later with more to say once I've processed. Well done you two.

I love how these two reliably bust out some of the funniest and most beautiful songs every year.
Bear bells in a breakdown has to be the most Rob and Andrew idea ever!! It was such a blast watching two music legends at work! Congratulations on another FOO!!!
Song 11 beginning is straight out of Outer wilds. Hits way to hard in the feels. Going straight to the playlist
Oh God I can actually hear it. Crazy catch!
YES I THOUGHT THE SAME THING, the melodica, the bells, and the repeating verse melody really drive it home.
Has Rob ever played Outer Wilds?
I feel like he'd love it!
All the songs are fun, but that last song, It'a Time To Move On, is genuinely moving. A tear came to me eye, fellers.
I N F I N I T E K N I V E S
Highlight of my year.
Every year.
Thank you.
Wasn't expecting Rob to deliver the hardest callout AND a sick tunnel throat 15 seconds apart. Definitely here for it.
The contrast jump between Infinite Lives beautiful relaxing fade out to the SMACK Same Old Game starts with restarted my heart.
I didn't expect actually hearing Time to Move On to genuinely move me to tears. But here we are.
The harmonies sound better then ever!
omg the chills on Infinite Lives !!
"It's Time to Move On" has Death Cab for Cutie vibes written all over it. Congratulations to another successful year, Andrew and Rob!
I'm so happy to follow this journey from the beginning. a little note, beside that i love each song, is that i realized the ONE deep song Rob writes is always my favourite. It's Time to Move On is truly a gem
It really feels like you get to hang out with two friends for a few hours. It's really sad when the experience is coming to end, knowing that it will be another year with so many ups and downs to go through, before you get to experience this again (in this context -- outside of their other videos). giving this a second listen after rob's video, so good 😄
your clarity of purpose and execution under pressure is a marvel to behold. i get that you're career musicians and this is round 6 but that doesn't diminish the effort, you and the team give it everything each time and the cumulative experience just means the result is even more impressive
Gorgeous
I’ve never Gregged more in my life!
'its time to move on' melody sounds like 'Some Kind of Cadwallader' by Algernon Cadwallader and I love it so much
I’d do anything Dungeon Man asked of me.
Every first of October you get me singing "It's the first of October again!" and I can't wait to see what joys that year brings.
This has to be one of the most special yet, Infinate Lives and It's Time To Move On both made me cry.
And greg,
my gosh, i love FOO so much. please just never stop being yourselves and creating awesome, wholesome and deep sounding music!
1st album: Woo Woo!
5th album: man, life is hard
6h album: it's time to move on and greg around
Can't stop smiling. 10 out of 10. I didn't think it could meet my high expectations, but it more than exceeded them. *Great* work boys.
You mean "Greg work boys."?
I'll see myself out..
@murkshroom Greg work Gregs!!
I love how the different instrumentation makes the album. Pitching for next year: a digital drum pad loaded up with classic drumbreak chops, a playable vocoder / harmonizer / autotune for adding strange vocals on the fly and perhaps something like a portablism SC1000 for making strange effects.

Loved hearing more Rob lead vocals this time around!!!
Infinite Lives has an endless Zelda's Ocarina of Time vibes. Awesome work
Bro infinite lives!!!
Thank you so much, Andrew and Rob! The 11th song brought tears to my eyes. Looking forward to what’s coming next!
this sounds too raw for no reason
It's honestly so impressive knowing that these were all made in a day, the mastering and the amount of layers of complexity these tracks have is awesome.

godddddd "infinite lives" has my heart rn

Same here. That's the vibe that got me hooked from the start
I've been greggin' a lot like Greg
