I rolled up on a guy in a mustang who was trying to make everyone see him. He looked over at me in my new Jag and his heart sunk. I kinda felt cool for a few seconds until I looked, and saw a feller in a new phantom next to me, and suddenly I was no longer special. Just like that. Like a balloon popping.

Would have loved to hear more about Rolls-Royce designing and building engines for military aircraft. The Supermarine Spitfire always used Rolls-Royce engines. They also powered the De Havilland Mosquito, and Hawker Hurricane. Rolls-Royce also designed the engine for the P-51 Mustang. Rolls-Royce helped win the bloodiest conflict the world has ever seen! They continue to make jet engines for modern aircraft.

You forgot that the P-51 mustang airplane has a water cooled roll Royce engine
Early models of the P-51 used an American designed/built Allison engine but the US was pretty far behind UK/Germany in terms of aircraft and engine design so it was switched out for the RR Merlin also used in the Spitfire.
The engine was designed by Rolls Royce as the Merlin, but the engines in Mustangs were license-built by Packard in America.
But the ultimate version (The P51 D) used a Packard motor
also that they made the first turbine engine I think

I grew up in the town that MC Hammer retired in. There was a gym on the South side of town that, for a while, my dad had signed the family up for. Turns out MC Hammer went to that gym. While I never met him, we did get to see him driving out of the parking lot in his Rolls Royce. That was pretty cool.
I think the closest I've ever been to a Rolls Royce was a Phantom, and god they are damn huge. I was working with my father on a Mk.1 Golf in a workshop out of town (México). And we saw the car being pulled out from getting washed. They had recently replaced one of the door's handles. Just the piece alone cost around 60K Mexican pesos (Around 2.7K US). Boy, I don't know how much time it will pass until I ever forget that car

Recently the wife and I had the pleasure of being driven to the airport in a Ghost. Boy let me tell ya that ride is every bit as smooth and comfortable as they say, and we were going over some very bad roads.
And the interior? Fuggetaboutit. The carpet was thick, the cushions were soft.
We had driven around in a BMW 8 Series just a few days earlier and the Rolls blew that thing out of the water in terms of style, comfort and just general awe. The thing had me giggling like a child, I was so darn giddy.
Make an up to speed on Alpina. Just like RUF they are classified as a car manufacturer, not a tuner. Their older models were oldschool engine tuned while the looks were so classy😏

I drive a Durango and in my town, I'm one of the very few people who own a Durango. The newest model. That alone made me feel very cool because I keep my car clean and shiny. I have it waxed and I even have tire shine on the tires. I was at light and a Rolls pulled up next to me. Man when I tell you I felt a sting, I'm not exaggerating. Rolls Royces have this overwhelming presence about them that I can't quite explain
I once saw a rolls Royce driving around my home town where everyone either has a pickup truck or a 10 year old sedan. This guys car was the word around town for the next two days

Old machines are so crazy relieable, becuae they are overbuilt and inefficient as fuck. Nowadays things are build to last for a predetermined ammount of time/miles/cycles/whatever. This greatly improved efficiency.

When I drive by in my SVX, driver's necks break as they turn in amazement. People approach it, every day theres a parking lot talk, every mechanic I drive by gives a thubs up. People never race me (exept one civic guy that was racing everyone one night). Motorcycle guys look back and thumbs up me.
Now thats true celebrity status to me.
I hope everyone will one day receive that and enjoy their car as much as me.
