I always used to eat these on the playground at school. I don't know why really. Someone told me they were edible when I was a kid. I especially liked tasting the nectar from the flowers. The leaves always reminded me of the flavor of carrots.
They grew in the communal lawn area of the apartment complex I grew up in 💕 we didn't eat the whole flower but tried to just get the sweet part at the base of each flower
I harvested red clover and dried it for tea this year for the first time. Drinking the tea now, I'm in love with the flavour. Will definitely be harvesting annually. What an awesome plant.
I can imagine someone ripping up their lawn and purposely planting a lot of edible "weeds" and having their neighbors complain at the "ugly lawn". It would no longer be a useless grassy lawn, but instead a food and medicine lawn.
I found out long time ago in Victorian era they did not have lawns but yards of dandelion's because of what the roots could do and if they saw grass they pull the grass out
@@mainemavin Clover is beneficial to any foliage-heavy plants as it can fix nitrogen from the air into the soil. I prefer white clover over red clover when it comes to looks and growth habits. My yard and garden is a "weedy mess" as I like to let things grow and see what happens. Last year some Maypops showed up, they didn't look too good (they struggled), but this year they seem to be doing great. Also found a gift purple clematis growing on my fence, probably a result of birds for the both of them.
On my walk I picked red clover that was growing quite high. Once home I Google how to prepare and your video popped up. I was thrilled because I am a subscriber! Wealth of info given, and I love that you showed how to prepare a treat! I had no idea the leaves were important to harvest as well.
Hi, I really need to cut my lawn, but now I can say I am growing red clover ;-) Looks delicious as fritters - hope my kids agree. Will be trying this soon. Many thanks for this interesting post. Gerry UK
I love this series you do! I'd really like to see harvesting pine nuts from pine cones and also how to harvest and prepare acorns. Hope to see more of these videos soon. Thanks for what you do.
This is great, I have lots of red clover to try as a salad ingredient and will try the fritters and have clover tea with both ! I want to try fried grape leaves but haven't found any that match your video on them.. I'm so glad for all your videos, their fun to watch and very informative.. Can't wait til your tractor is fixed 😊 Thank you Mrs. Outsider for your recipes too !
Nicely done. Appreciate the nutrient content. Good quality video showing plant up close, some foraging videos you cant see what the heck their eating. And I love the cooking segment, not just someone grazing. Would love to see more recipes with same plant.
Just last summer I picked some in the mountains (live in Canadian Rockies) and made some lovely sweet clover jelly... everyone loved it! I did the same with some wild roses.. This year I'm hoping to try Spruce tip jelly & dandelion jelly.
I live in the Muskoka and walk some of the trails with friends, I've enjoyed your videos and will keep my eyes open for very easily identifiable wild edibles. Thank you for emphasizing responsible foraging. I have subscribed.
It has recently been discovered that fermented red clover will stop the progress of osteoporosis in women in their menopause - also fermentation will preserve the nutrients
Doesn't have to be fermented. Whether in tea or capsule form it's a great hormonal treatment for menopause or hot flashes. My wife would be lost without it.
This was my first foray into wild foraging and WOW it was delicious! I used Bisquik batter because it was on hand, but it turned out wonderfully! This boosted my confidence to try other wild edibles you suggested :)
Learned about these a few years ago when we took a foraging class. We added them to the group salad for a taste at the end.:) This year I have expanded my wild edibles beyond the clover but since I have so many growing in my own back yard, I thought I would do alittle more research. Great info to get me excited again and a neat way other than adding them to my salad was what I was looking for. I made the fritters as a side dish one day and I really enjoyed them. Thanks for the info and the recipe.
my dad always drank clover blossom tea. he said it had anti cancer properties among other things. My dad passed away at 91 and had no signs of cancer in his body. so maybe he was right about that
I was surprised that the water used to boil the clover can be consumed as you also said too much uncooked clover can cause indigestion. Great information on the Vermont State Flower. Thanks.
I really love your channel watching your channel has given me a lot of information on natural remedies that reminds me of my grandmother please keep up the good work and I would like to see a lot more
fritter recipe was a great template, added some more sweetness to and drizzled some maple syrup with it and had with some strawberries the little ones loved it !
I teach traditional koga ninjutsu and your advice for this delicious clover came in extremly handy after a full day out and about without any food supply. Just subscribed to your channel. Your the best for all outdoor survival. Thank you. P.s. my students enjoyed the clovers too brother.
Oh neat! How did they taste? I've eaten dandelion flowers raw before, but wasn't a big fan of the taste. I wonder if they might taste better as fritters.
Ty-i was wondering if the leaves were a good pot herb. Id probably do clover tea with honey and eating the clover as a pot green. Clover is allowed to thrive in my garden.
Hi i wanted to ask if men can take Red Clover as I've heard its mainly for women and can contains Estrogen and can apparently give men a side effect which gives them breasts. I need to take red clover as i've heard it is very good for skin problems including eczema & psoriasis
Great information. I'm planting today and was looking for tips on that. I thought I read somewhere that red clover improves soil. If I uproot the whole thing to eat will the improvement stay in the soil too?! City person here!
interesting. We have red and white clover just about everywhere in the yard. I might just uproot a few samples. Re home them. And see if I can collect the offspring, if any. I'll use those as my next cover crop.
Started white dutch clover in my yard to fill in and possibly take over. Also bought red and crimson clover seed. Going to plant patches around the property. Like the fact is edible!!
HI, I have a question for you. Is the red and white clover the same as sweet clover? Because I'm on warfarin and I don't want to have a problem with bleeding or anything else.
I just wild forage some red clover but I have never foraged before and I didn't realize the amount of little bugs that'd be on them. Lot of clear bugs (aphids?) and then small black bugs. I soaked them and tried my best to remove all of them. Then I dried them in my oven. I am still a little nervous to brew them though since I've never done this before :/ I made sure it was away from any roadways so Idk why I'm nervous
Hey we have something like that.. But a friend told me to pick off the flower. So I did. He told me to suck on the bottom of the purple flower. It litterly no joke taste like honey... But doesn't last long... So is it a good idea?
I always used to eat these on the playground at school. I don't know why really. Someone told me they were edible when I was a kid. I especially liked tasting the nectar from the flowers. The leaves always reminded me of the flavor of carrots.
I used to nibble on red clovers when I was a kid too. Come to think of it, clover is probably the first wild edible I ever tried.
The Outsider I first tried dandelions because someone told me I could.
They tasted bitter and zesty, perfect in a salad.
lol I did too
we use to call them honey suckles because it tasted sweet like honey lol. I would sometimes spend my whole recess looking for one
me too!

Sounds like my crazy neighbour and me.
I garden at my S.O.'s. He really doesn't like my Red Clover in the garden. At least he is allowing it to be in a specific bed.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to do ☘️🙂🍀
An appetite stimulant.. imagine you're starving, and find a bunch of red clover, only to eat them and end up extra hungry 😂
LoL

lol Eating some delicious wild edibles instead of cutting the lawn seems like a win-win to me! Thanks Gerry.
Just a thought, do you spread any fertilizers or chemicals to maintain your lawn? It might make the clovers toxic..

Best an most thorough video on res clover I ever seen. Much appreciated. Been eating red clover for decades an never knew about the non edible type.

How do you ferment it?

Ken Easley how much does she drink?
please keep making plant vids your doing such a great job with sharing plant kingdom knowledge

This is a great thing you are doing here. this knowledge is so close to being forgotten, everyone should know how to feed themselves
my dad always drank clover blossom tea. he said it had anti cancer properties among other things. My dad passed away at 91 and had no signs of cancer in his body. so maybe he was right about that
I love all your foraging videos! So informative and interesting
I have been watching your channel for a couple years now. You have inspired me to start my own channel.
This channel is fantastic. Love it! Thank you😊
I'm so grateful for this series. I can't wait to go in the woods tomorrow.
I was always thrilled to find these when I was a kid because they were so sweet
I was surprised that the water used to boil the clover can be consumed as you also said too much uncooked clover can cause indigestion. Great information on the Vermont State Flower. Thanks.
Wow. This is so good to know. I used to eat them raw when I was a kid, they taste good. I didn't know they were so nutritious.
I planted red clover. I’m absolutely in love with them
I like the identification *WITH* the common mistaken identification (or the don't eat)....thumbs up
Excellent video, my last picking I took the few bottom few leaves under the bloom to include in my tea, now glad I fed
Love this channel!

When I was a child I remember eating these. My sisters would laugh but I thought thy tasted wonderful.
Very cool never thought of clover. I just did dandelion flower fritters this spring. They are amazing!! Awsome video as always
Oh neat! How did they taste? I've eaten dandelion flowers raw before, but wasn't a big fan of the taste. I wonder if they might taste better as fritters.

They sure are!
This is an excellent video. The photo that you posted on the beginning of the video is also very beautiful. Thank you for your video.
Thanks for giving me the clarity I was looking for. Continue the good work.
What a gorgeous plant! Geeking out on this channel.
I have been eating red clover ever since my nana told me it's edible I was probably 4
Yo! you should make a video about Chaga, the mushroom that grows on Birch trees. ( I always thought it was weird calling it a mushroom tbh)
I love these, I munch on them often. Honeysuckle is really tasty too ❤️
Gonna look for some around the Boston area. Would be fun super bowl snack
Ty-i was wondering if the leaves were a good pot herb. Id probably do clover tea with honey and eating the clover as a pot green. Clover is allowed to thrive in my garden.
Dope!im going to take my son out and do this tomorrow! Thanks for this awesome video
Source of Protein? Really? I never would have guessed
That looks and sounds delicious!!! We're definitely going to try this out! 👍
Excellent!
Love this series.
Glad to hear it!
@@TheOutsiderCabin you should make a youtube channel where you only do these kind of videos
You've got a great narrator voice! Those clover fritters look delicious.

Great information and yummy looking fritters! I just watched a video on stuffed squash blossoms, so this is shaping up to be Edible Flower Day, lol.
lol Sounds like a pretty good day to me!

You can toss your flowers in cornstarch to enable the batter to stick better, it might benefit it to use a thicker batter as well.
They look similar to Globe amaranth which is also edible!
Thanks for making this channel, very useful and helpful.
Bless up roots Moses brought me here 🌻🙏
Well done. Good information. Best
Thanks Tom!
As a kid me and my friends would walk so deep into the woods that we would eat the flowers as a snack on the way back home. Good times.
Gorgeous videos, especially those thumbnails 😍
Really enjoy your videos.
thank you for teaching this to us...
Hi! Great video! When/How would you recommend to colect its seeds to plant it nearby?
Great information! Thank you for sharing.
Found it thanks! I see this everyday. I know it was beneficial I jus picked them for bathes but I need more uses!
Same for crimson clower?.... 🤔
Besides the Chevron pattern how else can I make sure I don’t confuse this with the inedible Alsike clover?
interesting. We have red and white clover just about everywhere in the yard. I might just uproot a few samples. Re home them. And see if I can collect the offspring, if any. I'll use those as my next cover crop.
Thank you!
Very nice video.
Started white dutch clover in my yard to fill in and possibly take over. Also bought red and crimson clover seed. Going to plant patches around the property. Like the fact is edible!!
I just planted a bunch of that on my garden. clovers are used as a cover crop-green manure.
Interesting! I didn't know that.
can you dry them for later use? will the plant still have nutritional value after being dried?
I'm thinking why not make red clover jelly, similar to dandelion jelly? I think I'll have to try it. I remember eating the clover pedles.
Wow! That looks really pink to me. The flowers on red clover in Alabama are a dark crimson. Can you please tell me why the colors are so different?
Just Jay y'alls clover just yells out Roll Tide..lol
HI, I have a question for you. Is the red and white clover the same as sweet clover? Because I'm on warfarin and I don't want to have a problem with bleeding or anything else.
Matthew Overacre - research the vitamin k content, iirc.

Great video!
Thanks for this epic video
Red Clover - got to love them
Have you heard of cleome hassleriana aka spider flower? And if so is it edible?
Mrs outsider should make some videos about canning using only wild edibles
Hey we have something like that.. But a friend told me to pick off the flower. So I did. He told me to suck on the bottom of the purple flower. It litterly no joke taste like honey... But doesn't last long... So is it a good idea?
I just watched your video great job I am about plant some seeds, can't wait to find out what happens
What do you clean them with ?
I eat these all the time. so so good
Great video

Is there a significant difference between Red Clover and Crimson Clover in terms of nutritional value?
If a good music can make you smile😊 I hope my simple Hello can make you smile🌹 can we be friends?
Would the spruces and pines along with clovers help skin conditions when used as masks?
Thanks. This is very educational. New subscriber.
great video! I just wish you would have shown the non edible cousin with it's lack of Chevron present
it is Gomphrena globosa ?
I have asthma I heard they are good for respiratory stuff and they grow literally ALL over my yard and in the field next to me 👍
I remember picking these things and "drinking" (there wasn't much, more just licked) the nectar off the bottom of the clover petals
Is crimson clover also edible?
So is a lookalike red clover, with no chevrons on its leaves, a poisonous plant?
Quite interesting ☘☘☘☘☘
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL SO MUCH ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY
