Quite a few people have struggled removing the handle from a modern mixer tap, so I made this to make the job much easier 😉 I hope everyone has a great Remembrance Sunday 👍
Yeah, I remember swapping tools with some mates in the playground at primary school There used to be a couple of hardware shops that I used to go in, I’d save my birthday money etc. and buy tools or DIY books. My late mother bought me a Black and Decker corded jigsaw and drill when I was 13 😂 Thanks for the comment 👍
water corrosion and calcium crud buildup over time. I know this cause ..Me shower handle had snapped off 2 days back. - the remaining plastic stuck inside was jammed, had to drill it out completely.
He possibly didn’t. The fact that he constructed a tool for lifting such stuck tops says he comes across them frequently enough and, conveniently for a video on the topic, this happened to be one of them. Bingo! 😁 Dr Watson, for Sherlock Holmes
I have changed several of these cartridges in this type of tap, every single one has been stuck! Normally I just spend 10-15 minutes wiggling the handle, applying spray penetrant etc. Eventually it will normally come off, but with this tool, it is much easier and quicker 😉 Thanks for the comment 👍
I absolutely destroyed one of these last year trying to get the top off (plastic s were all brittle too). Then i saw wickes sold a whole new tap for £25. Dont think the effort i put in to trying to take off the old one was worth it. might have been if the tap cost alot.
Yeah, sometimes it is easier to replace the whole tap! Although a lot of these taps look the same, there are a couple of different manufacturers and the quality varies vastly! Thanks for the comment 👍

Nice solution. So happy when you didn't use the expensive pull tool. Those taps are so cheap nowadays you must have also been tempted to replace.
Yes, sometimes it is much easier to just replace the whole tap!

Brilliant and a well thought out solution UH!

Very clever solution!

Reminds me of the strongbacks we used to make to remove bearings and couplings. Good tip, i have the very same tap.
Yeah, it’s very similar to a bearing puller that is in the tool room, in one of the sites where I work 👍

Very good idea 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
@ would be great to design on a 3d printer.
Yeah, it would be easy for someone to 3D print it, although I am not sure how durable 3D printed plastics are 🤔
@ Indeed, some 3d printers do metal and tough materials.
Thanks my guy. Coincidentally i just changed the shower mixer cartridge yesterday. Handle had completely snapped off.
Great video as usual.
Blimey, I have never heard of that happening before 😱

had this problem, ended up hacksawing it off from the top, not my finest work but it did remove the tap :D
If it works- it works 😉

Impressed you had your own hammer in primary school!!

So, how did you know it was going to be stuck?

if my tap was that crusty that the it wouldn't come apart if I needed it to, I'd just get a new tap! ;-)
Sometimes that is the best option 👍

New taps are so cheap nowadays. I always take a new one just in case and almost always end up swapping them.
Yes, that makes perfect sense. Sometimes it’s just not worth replacing the cartridge!

So the best solution would be to never have this problem and clean the tap handles once a year.
Cleaning the tap handle will not make it easier to remove from the cartridge, unless you are going to remove the handle and clean the inside 😉
@@ultimatehandyman I know ,i meant inside :)
