I’m so sorry about your layoff. I was laid off in January and it was a huge ht to my self-esteem. Biggest piece of advice that you didn’t ask for is to make sure to take a little time for yourself. Wishing you the best!

Kait, I remember getting laid off in 2010. I was devastated, as I really loved my job and the people I worked with. However, within 2 months I was gainfully employed once again and everything worked out. Often times, the best is yet to come!

I'm also in a place where I have to drastically curb my spending and I love your process and your decision making. You cut your spending by 90% from where you started. I think what this really demonstrates is that if we slow down and spend some time, research and be thoughtful about what we buy, most of what we have on our wish lists is just a waste of our money. And there is something incredibly satisfying about only spending on what you truly need and will absolutely use and enjoy.

Devastating Kait, I know the pain of being laid off from a corporate role after about 4.5 years (its guttural how there is no loyalty or how you're treated so replaceable and in my case, laid off despite having an "outstanding" performance record so it is so heartbreaking and I can only imagine the surge of emotion you may be currently experiencing) and have yet to find work in a year (I'd like to believe primarily due to this insane economic circumstance) so my heart goes out to you - allow yourself the space to heal and reflect and know your own worth is not reflected in this situation
You are tremendous, your drive and analytical and presentational skills and personality are top notch, and I wish you and I both the best as we navigate to the next position as well - as well as the freedom to cry and dream again!

I looooovveee these videos! I appreciate how ruthless you are, too, Kait! I haven’t been Rouge at Sephora in over a year (which, honestly, I’m proud of myself for that, as I had been since that tier began 😬😅), and so the Sephora sale doesn’t tempt me at all. I can get a better deal than 10% off on almost any brand site at various points during the year, if I really need a product.

I love the Urban Decay Face Bond foundation but! I found most ppl are lighter in the shade range than they thought. Me included! I’m light medium all year round and I fell much lighter in the shade range than thought. But the match is perfect so I do suggest everyone to see it in person. It’s the first foundation in a long time that made me sit up and take notice when seeing it in action. I’m combo and lean a little dry right now and still find it do be flattering on my skin 😊
So I’ve been using the urban decay 24/7 lip liner in Liar for years. It used to be called Naked, which was a total misnomer. I love Liar, but let me give you my particulars. I have dark brown eyebrows, medium brown eyes. My skin tone is light/ medium with neutral olive undertones. it’s not a warm toned lip liner, which is actually what I like about it, but I think it might be too “bricky” for you, if that makes sense. It’s like a cool brick with a little hint of mauve berry. It’s perfect for me, and my friend uses it all the time-she has white hair, but a very deep olive skin tone. I hope this helps and thank you for such a great rundown and example of a good pulling process. I did a similar thing with my cart.

I have a terrible habit of watching videos in the bathtub without my glasses on and so voice texting and not seeing any of the millions of errors. I’m so glad you could make sense out of that and I’m so glad you love it. It’s honestly three deep in my, make up kit. I just can’t be without it. I think I’ve been using this lip liner for at least 15 years because I used it when I lived in Oregon and I’ve lived in California for 14 years now. It’s a shade that seems to work on just about everyone.

But fair blondes like you and Cate the Great seem to be able to wear tones that I would’ve thought were only for us deeper toned, brown-eyed folk.
I’m with you on the new tarte lip vinyl. It’s the only iteration of them that I own and love. Also a way to cut spending for me with trying new products is I tell myself I can try some new things at this sale and some more new things at their fall sale

I bit the bullet and bought the lawless lip gloss in Watermelon! I got it today and WoW! No regrets - it has good color, a creamy cushiony texture and a smoothing effect on lip lines! Worth it for me 💗
The Lawless glosses are amazing but heads up - they expire extremely fast. They started smelling off about 8-10 months after I bought them.

please check out the aphrodite lip pencil by vieve if you haven’t already. it might be just what you’re looking for that was similar to the dior one. i could be totally wrong! but we seem to have the sane taste in lip pencil color, and i LOVE that lip pencil color. it’s perfect.

My trick to spend less is getting to know ethical problems with the products I want to buy, for example I saw the True Cost about 10 year ago (documentary about fast fashion) and I started thrifting after that.
Also, wanting to buy only cruelty free products to not encourage animal testing limits my options… so less spending!
I didn’t buy anything during this sale 1. Because I’m VIB and the savings are so low it’s almost insulting haha
2. I need to finish products and decided to wait until the fall sale…

So to keep in with the de enfluencing theme - I did end up buying the olehenriksen in that cocoa flavour and it was the most horrible taste ever 😅 so bad I had to return it. I have no idea what in it but it did not agree with me at all! So knowing that you are also sensitive to smell and taste, maybe you not buying it was for the best. And for your lipliner dip dive, I really wish you could see the new Lisa Eldridge lip pencil in person, they look so good but it is sooo expensive to get them to North America.

I love your videos and your reviews... so thorough and thoughtful!!! I CANNOT wait for your liner deep dive... I am obsessively looking for a pencil shades that will work on my cooler toned skin... almost EVERYTHING pulls orange... unless I go super dark... my 2 favorites from the drugstore are rimmel 705 cappucino and maybelline 104 gone greige... among a few higher end pencils that I like... but don't love. But I do LOVE makeup forever endless cacoa ; )
BTW... the gisou lip oil... I watched a review from another influencer... during her video, the oil gathered in the corners of her mouth and moved around... she didn't catch it right away, but, needless to say, she was super unhappy with the product.
Sorry to hear about your job! I am looking forward to the lip liner deep dive. I never used to wear lip liner but now that I’m in my late 30s my lip lines are more noticeable so I thought I’d try some. Although matching lip liner and lipstick shades still confuses me. Like am I trying to match the exact shade? (Why don’t brands produce lipstick and liners with the same shade names to make it easier?) I also have cool undertones and so far I’m liking Urban Decay 24/7 in Rush and MAC Soar. Most liners labeled “naked” or “bare” tend to be too warm/tan for me.
To me the Armani Prism glasses are in between a gloss and an oil. They are not as thin as Merit but they are nowhere near as thick as Lawless. For that reason I don’t think you would like them because they don’t have that grippy quality. The new Sephora All About that Shine glosses are a nice formula, similar to the Glossier Ultralips or Charlotte Tilbury Happikiss formula but they have a chemical/floral smell and I know how sensitive you are to smell so again another product I don’t think would work best for you.

I went through a layoff a few years ago and it ended up being the best thing that could have possibly happened to me, and I ended up going down a path that made me a lot happier. You mentioned that you are doing a lip liner video… have you tried Victoria Beckham Beauty Lip Definer No. 3? I struggle with lip products pulling too warm on me, but that has enough mauve that it doesn’t pull too warm. I’m curious how it compares to the pillow talk fair lip liner

I did compared carts between UD and Sephora and Sephora made more sense because UD was charging like $8 for shipping which made the 25% discount negligible. Only worth it if you have a few items in your cart.

You aren’t missing anything with the collagen lip bath. The Naturium is better in every way. Naturium is thicker and yet less sticky. the collagen lip bath is very minty and medicinal smelling, and the mint does tingle a bit

Have you tried the Lisa Eldridge new lip liner in C1? It genuinely is the only lip liner I have found that has matched my natural lip color so well, and I also have a cooler pink undertone to my lips. I really have loved it!!

1C is the lightest of the cool toned shades, 0N is the only shade that has a “0” in front of it and it’s a neutral shade. Unfortunately I don’t think she does sales, but 1C truly is the perfect nude, cool toned pink lip liner I’ve ever found

I'm cool-toned and very few brownish colours look nice on me. Liar by Urban Decay is hands down my favourite and I always recommend it to people. Urban Decay formula is also tied with the Dior formula (which I hear they have changed/have not tried the new formula yet). Both stay on very well and don't dry out my lips. Sorry to hear that you were laid off, sigh, that is harsh. I'm sure you will be on your feet in no time but dang all the same.
Sorry about your jerb! :( I think you'll enjoy the Gxve gloss--I grabbed one during the sale and they're THICCC (yes, 3 c's) and the good kind of sticky. I put mine on immediately and I think it lasted for like 2 hours? The doe foot could have been smaller, though. It's a little chonky. I'm also interested in the blush from that line because I swatched it in the store and it seemed kiiindof like a stain (like the milk ones, which are HG status for me because my face doesn't eat them). Ultimately I didn't grab it because I went way over budget already :<
And you're not missing much from not getting the strawberry ole henrikson balm--the scent is very fake strawberry. I love strawberry scents and I don't reach for it very much. I wish I had grabbed the clear one instead D: I have the blood orange and I reach for it way more (even though the blood orange scent leans kindof garlicky towards the end?? But that PUNCH of juicy orange right in the beginning is what I want lol)
Ok I got the Gxve gloss in the mail and it just isn't what I wanted because they described it as a gel. It's literally the same formula as their Bubble Pop Electronic Gloss - which I LOVE - but in the light shade Bouquet it gives me a white ring on my lips :/

Kait, I’m guessing you are hoping to take YT full time, but if you’re looking for full time, I think you should consider non profit fundraising, I think you’re in some sort of marketing? It pays a lot better than most areas of non profit, a lot of corporate people don’t realize that many large NPs are very similar, but authenticity & trustworthiness are everything, slick PR & marketing pros just don’t do well. You’ve got the perfect vibe & communication style, and there might be decent 20-30 hr/wk options. Depending on the org, a lot of it is WFH, esp with a big nonprofit where you wouldn’t be the “face” but might occasionally need to do media via remote feed.

Sorry about your job. Always such a hard thing. I'm trying to find a part time job which juggles my parenting responsibilities & a shift working husband I'm not in or near enough a main city.
