Viola Wills (December 30, 1939-May 6, 2009) was an American pop singer, best known for the 1979 UK Singles Chart #8 and U.S. Hot Dance Club Play #52 hit, "Gonna Get Along Without You Now". Other hits included further covers of the songs, "Both Sides Now" (#35 UK) (1986), and "If You Could Read My Mind" (#2 U.S. Hot Dance Club Play) (1980).
You couldnt walk in a club, or discotheque at the time and not hear this. It was a wildly popular version of a song all of us already adored by Mr Lightfoot. I love the Mexican horns. Whoever produced this mix was a master. And how about the way she sings it? The memories of my youth in the late 70s & early 80s.
Opening night at The SAINT, NYC, I was a head Bartender from STUDIO 54. We’d just lost the license. I thought I couldn’t be wowed, but from the dance floor under a huge functioning planetarium; inside a giant converted church, never having heard her rendition until then, she rises from beneath the dance floor (Viola Wills dressed in white and a matching boa. . .... ...... that house came down! What a show! A night to remember.
a head bartender? Sounds dirty.
So cool!!! Do you have an Instagram/Facebook page?
her voice was criminally underrated!
Tears of joy .Viola will never be forgotten.
Best rendition ever!
Whatever this lady touches, turns to fire!!
You can't make gold bars without fire.
This is the best version of the song, to me and should be everyone's best likewise, especially as I relate it to a sweet age long gone with its sweet memories.
I had never heard of her before I'm ashamed to say. I love Disco music and this song was on 54 (1998) by Stars On 54. I listened to it again a few days ago then Viola popped up as a suggestion and I'm glad it did. This is my favorite version.
Viola Wills a Super Starrr!!!
She was the Creative Diva guiding the Trocadero Transfer and after she passed away her daughter shared her story the members: that we filled her with joy and hope. Whenever the chemo treatments brought her down she would drive to the club where she could find among her family of fans just to be with us and the love of the dancers was enough! RIP, Miss Wills. ❤❤❤
I found this song on one of those lost hits of the early 80's clips. LOVE IT!
I saw her perform at Probe in Los Angeles. The dance floor stopped dancing and watched her perform, awesome she was! She's right up there with Grace Jones!
I love disco music the best
Love this woman , love this voice I miss you ,,,
Superb, what a song, brilliant, brilliant R.I.P
Beautiful Disco!
She makes it her own, bravo!
There is another version of this song...I think is the original, but this is the version I like the most....Viola was really a talented singer...Lots of memories from my teenage yrs..!!!
I bought this new in 1981 I think. I remember all the nice things going on, back then.
Have A Nice Day.
4/7/2024 - Who's still listening🎵
Amazing song, especially this long version 👌
Looking back at the days of disco, this version means more to me than the Gordon Lightfoot masterpiece. If that makes sense to anyone.
A sweet song from a sweet time in NYC.
From a time when singers could sing without autotune.
So cool!
Beautiful song
El arreglo musical más grandioso de los 80ssss
Love hearing those swipes on the instruments😄
Que voz maravilhosa.
Outstanding. No wonder why this is one of Gordon Lightfoot's favorite versions of his song!
Beautiful

You really believe that? Gordon Lightfoot loved a shitty artist covering his great balled? Come on!!
Sorrey...ballad.
@@richardharrison1855 Why wouldn't he? The vocals in this version are good. Nice cover.
He probably did. She did a wonderful job and being the writer probably made some money off it.
Que brutalidad de recuerdos con esta canción.
Gruwelijk goed nummer
Lov u viola in heaven.
San Roses from Holland❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
EXCELLENT VERSION ❤️❤️💜💜
Compare this to the absolute garbage music of today....
We had such fantastic music back in those days....and we just took it for granted. When Disco died?? That was the beginning of the end...
Motown > Philly Soul > Disco > Garbage....and it has not changed. The music industry should be ashamed for pushing their junk as they do today
Great Music Never Dies I agree with you
I dint take it forgranted i was outthere dancing every weekend.sanadou the casback the limelight the top discos in atlanta.i had a blast.ienjoyed those days.but when disco died my fun went away.i dont know what happened things were not the same.

had just moved to vancouver and this song was popular at the gandy dancer gay bar. loved it.
"...The feelin's that you lack..."
~ Still fresh in 1980. R.I.P. Viola Wills. I still prefer the original Peter Struve mix. Love to Gordon Lightfoot & Tim Moulton though. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
I am not familiar with the original mix. Can you provide a link to it? Very interested.
Fabulous

Great remake by Viola of the original Gordon Lightfoot song.
First time i heard this was in the early 1980s.gordon lightfoots best .
Memories Rae Town style !
Para mí, el mejor L.P. de Viola, el estilo 80ero muy bueno para bailarlo, aún así no pierde el tono melancólico de la letra. La versión de Gordon Lightfoot es bellísima. DEP Viola 💕🎵💃
Looks like Viola Wills beat Donna Summer in looping this classic.
Took a dead song and OMG. Love it
