Crazy how Disney wouldn’t give Ariel a super shimmery silvery gown for the finale so Halle had to do it herself at the premiere (she was stunning there and would’ve also been stunning in the film wearing a similar dress).
I feel either the producers not care or too lazy. I meant come on the outfits really look dull , while they can give her good outfits like in Cinderella but no they reasoned that they want give her realistic dress , really?
@@j.pnewcomer1069 exactly, I meant it's not fair when we said Ariel is white then they said Ariel is fiction so it's free but they want make her realistic and by realistic that meant make her outfit and all look dull and bland? @zahraasaqib656 indeed! She was! She deserved the Disney princess treatment, the dresses, the Cinderella (2015) treatment as tommy reemphasised and repeated, over and over again.
That first picture of Ariel in the blue dress is what we should have gotten. Like idc about historical accuracy when it's a movie about a MERMAID, Did they not understand that Ariel (our protagonist) needed to stand out compared to everyone else. Same thing applies to her hair i didn't like they went for realism and made it realistic, Ariel Again IS A MERMAID she shouldn't have a natural ginger hair color, she needs to stand out.
I heard that people said that Ariel would be getting 7 outfits in the Live action (including a outfit with pants for riding horseback with prince eric). I wonder why they only gave us 2 in the final product of the film
@@strawberry12393 I saw that too and got really excited about it. They were able to expand Jasmine's wardrobe in the live-action film. They even released a doll of Ariel in her mermaid form with a seashell tiara and all, I expected we'll see that in the film but I guess that's just for the doll. 🥹
@shanelocsin9906 Yeah, I guess Mattel just took a creative license with that doll so sad that Ariel didn't get the same treatment like all the other live action Disney princesses who got alot of outfits
I did hear that there was a costume designer who had constructed many beautiful outfits for Hallie, but none of them were utilized and instead it was a mix of CGI and bare minimum costumes.
Colleen Atwood is one of my favorite costume designers. She did costumes for Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice in Wonderland and so much more. He work is astounding. I wonder if there was something holding her back in her designs.
It's wild how much the promo for every other live action princess was about how much effort and beauty their gowns would have added to them, yet the promo for this was just about how they ever so kindly blessed us with an actress who is black, then only used her mermaid form for promo material. Like no, give us a black Ariel WITH that same love put into the feats they make depicting the fantasy gowns. They have more than enough of a budget to do both representation and top tier art, no excuses. In general as well, I'd love to see more re-interpretations of the stories that actually massively diverge from the original in some way, and that bring more than just realism but a stylised, artful realism; Disney gowns on real actors with editing effects to actually make them floatier, sparklier, fuller than real life. Ariel's pink and silver dresses were perfect opportunities for this. When we have movie studios mixing live action and fx, we've had a long era of bringing scifi, action, superheroes to life, but how about the ethereal, princess fantasy too? I've enjoyed the enchanted love for the natural world and handcrafted arts in the Avatar movies so far, but more eras of crafting and personal presentation could be enhanced on the screen with effects. Magic gowns, impossible cloaks, formal wear made from live and moving flowers. Lord of the Rings, but with the 2023 cutting edge of fantasy effects.
This was great I completely agree with you! I think the main reason though so many films have poor fashion is because the actors have to wear simple things so the CGI in the background can function if that makes sense. Like if they were wearing something too complicated it would mess with the CGI. CGI is cool, but if it's going to take away important attributes you have to use it wisely. Also a hand made set can still hold to this time and look amazing if not better.
Yeah, the costume designs weren't the strongest here--likely because they were trying too hard to attatch it to the real world/time period rather than embracing the fantasy aspects.
Halle had this red hair at the premier that would've been perfect! Also, the seashell bras were dropped bc it didn't work out and looked super weird on all the mermaid actors, but the color of her top should've been changed for sure bc the green, purple, and red were intentional and iconic colors. I think when live action is done, they fall into a world that is realism, but they shouldn't have! Especially since it was about a mermaid. 😭
The first dress looked so beautiful I’m so ugh disappointed. Disney please stop making it look “realistic” they’re still supposed to look magical and beautiful
**grabs pillow** AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I WAS ROBBED! MY CHILDHOOD IS SCREAMING! THEY COULD HAVE DRESSED HER UP SO BEAUTIFULLY! AHHHHHHHHH
I said if she had red hair, maybe blue eyes but not that importnat and also had more costumes she would have given more Arial to me. Hallie Bailey performance was amazing but the visual representation of Arial wasn't giving Arial. It probably has to do a little with the race swap and culture swap... but I think even that wouldn't bother me that much if they at least gave her red flowy hair and the costumes that were more similar to the animated film!
All the disney live actions were trash but this one seemed to get the worst treatment and it’s sad. I really wanted to like the little mermaid. Why did they wash out the beautiful colour? Mermaids are supposed to be all about bright colours and pastels! But it’s all dark and merky. It’s just sad. It feels almost like the writers at disney suck because they are l brats whose rich parents paying someone under the table to let them write disney films and they are now destroying the company because of it. It makes zero sense from a fan perspective so something must be going on!

Ive seen real pigtures of the actress with bright red hair and its so much better than what they did.
What's worse is her sisters had unnatural hair colors, so there was literally no reason to change Ariel's hair color
The fans concept art looks so amazing
Still triggered over this. All the other live action Disney princesses have amazing dresses.. but Ariel can’t get one 🙄
Lmfao Belles was not great

Yeah, they did the bare minimum with her and they did her wrong. Wow, these fan concepts are gorgeous.
Rob Marshall failing to actually do any of these almost seems like he tried to trash the film on purpose
He didn't care about halle. He really didn't and je knew about the hate she was getting. Make her shine more
Lord. These are great. I love her gold dress.
This would have been amazing ❤
She really looked like she was just in a stage play but less good. :( she was giving us EVERYTHING and they didn’t do her justice.
