that's an amazing transfer. it's always so inspiring to see a c5 transfer like that. makes you wanna train more. one thing I've noticed, almost every c5 or c6 without tris who can transfer well, are really really skinny. I've always tried to not get too bony because of skin issues, but maybe I should give skinny a try.
+Man Tas It is helpful to be thin for transfers because you have a lot less weight to move.. But you have to be good about skin care when you are skinny.
I've gotten it down pretty good over the years but it definitely wasn't easy to get down. I have a lot of friends that have used a transfer board for 10+ years and do very well with it so any way you are comfortable doing will work. Keep up the hard work and I now you'll get it down one way or another! I'm always here to help so let me know if you need some more advise.
WOW you are a good Quad I would be afraid to do a header out of the chair. I think you have better trunk control than me but the elbow as a bridge is interesting.
Thanks! I really don't have any trunk at all. By using your elbow as support your able to hold yourself up without use your core muscles. When I don't have my elbow under holding I keep myself supported with an arm on the coach or whatever I can use for balance.
Thanks for your support! I don't have any back muscle or trunk. It is just really good balance and having my arm holding my leg helps me to support and balance myself.
Mason Ellis Once I started working on this style transfer it took me 7 months to get it down without any assistance. I continued to work out and build up strength while I was learning the transfer and I had someone help at first then decrease their help more and more until I was doing it unassisted. Let me know if you need any more advise on anything.
+Daniel Ribera I'm 6' and my cushion is a 13" wide by 15" length. My back rest I don't remember the measurement but I do have a fairly tall backrest because I'm a little taller.
I have 1 pectoral and 1 tricep after c5 burst fracture and I still can't transfer like that... I have some use of my legs but I'm like one big spasmy uncoordinated mess.
Hey Jordan, sorry the transfer isn't working for you.. It might not work for everyone since we all have varying levels of function and spasticity. Getting my spasms under control was one of the hardest parts for me too, when I first started to transfer I would literally go flying some days in mid transfer! It took some time but after a while I could start to feel them building inside me so I try to get them all out before I transfer. It took some time to learn how my body was going to react to my movements but it did slowly develop for me. I've been in the chair almost 13 years now so I have had some practice lol...
Shawn- You inspire me and I'm an able bodied person. God bless.
Thanks everyone for watching and all the support you have been giving!
Wow that's awesome!! I still do not believe it. It must be that you are so lightweight that you can move so easily. Good job!!!
Damn Sean that was impressive man
Good. Shawn. Now I need to see how you transfer from the floor to your chair.
I ♡ you Shawn!!!! And I miss the hell out of you too!!!!
I miss you and the family.. I need to get down there to see everyone this summer!

Nice. You make it look easy lol. I've been transferring for about three years,, but I still use a board. Haven't gotten unassisted transfers down.

I need to try that but in a bit bigger than you. 6'3" and 190 I better get a few big people to spot me. Thanks again for the lesson
You have really good trunk control. Do you have back extensor muscles? Or is your balance just that good?
Thanks for your support! I don't have any back muscle or trunk. It is just really good balance and having my arm holding my leg helps me to support and balance myself.
have any vids of your murderball games?
I do have video of rugby (murderball) on my computer and I am going to put some up once I can edit it down
Live To Roll nice!!! I'm a little far from Cali to go see one XD
Hey Shawn, I recently got injured 6 months ago and am C5, C6, C7 quadriplegic. How long after your injury until you could transfer yourself?
