It's called "Pause Cancelling". Normally you have to wait for Black Hole Bomb to go through its cycle, but if you go to the pause menu and exit out, Black Hole Bomb disappears so I can use it over and over to kill an enemy faster via in-game time. You can use this same trick to beat Twin Devils in 1 cycle if you're good enough.
Man, this play through has it all. Nifty trick shots, excellent coordination including navigating through anus tightening spikes and endless pits, as well as cool short cuts with our friend Rush the pup, and lastly, corny but hilarious jokes. It even had one really close call! This guy knows how to play a Mega Man game, I doubt I could still play this way anymore, but there is no doubt a professional here walks among us, seeking no entitlement or recognition, he just simply walks in and saves the day with his heroics. Again, this play through rocks!
Really? So just "being good" is automatically tool assisted? HAHAHAHAHAHA. If that's the case, then Master ZED must be a robot, because his run is about 5 MINUTES faster then mine. Go check out his run at SpeedDemosArchive[dot]com.
Jesus Good Run Mate! Question on the Side: I have made my Directors Account in September 06, yours has been created on August 06... Is there any Trick i have to Know to Upload Videos which are longer than 10 Mins?! I really want to know that =)
@tiend15 "Looking better" is all a matter of perspective. But then again, MM8 was built on a 32-bit system (PS1) whereas this was intentionally built to look like a throwback to the old 8-bit games (which were way better). Same as MM10.
As a hardcore MM fan, i have to say you did a great job. Never thought about using the R.Coil for ladders and such. hmmmm... I thought 40:06 was ok, granted its only my second playthrough.
Uh, what have you been smoking recently? Because there is no sliding, quick change, or charging the mega buster in MM9 (with Mega Man anyways, though Proto Man doesn't have quick change either).
First, 27:21 is slow. It's slower then this time, plus my time is slow as well. Check out Master Zed's run at Speed Demos Archive and be amazed at that. Also, nobody cares about how much damage you take. The only thing that matters is that little timer at the end.
You're probably too young then to get the real joke. There's a James Bond movie called "Diamonds Are Forever". The weapon used? A satellite made with diamonds. Yeah, obscure reference for many, but I thought it was funny.
Sadly, I've been criticized by more true old school MM players as being a poor player. The current single session record is some 5 minutes faster then this run. I have to agree that this can be greatly improved (as can my Mega Man 7 100% run). So it's good, but not great.
Eh, everybody is being waxed by Master Zed. His times are actually showing up on the Wii's All Clear scoreboard. Look at his times if you can - they're incredible!
Born April 18th 1990 and i know what you mean, bro. Luckly i still own all of my Old Gaming Consoles such as my NES, SNES, N64, SEGA MD, SEGA DC, etc... And the best Part : Its still working =P
At 25:30, try using Rush to jump over the shield enemy, and immediately switch to tornado to raise the platform. Saves a few seconds that way, great run though!
I've encountered a lot of hard games in my time, some fair, some not. Ikaruga, Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth (on Hard Difficulty), Castlevania III, and probably any bullet hell shooter. Ninja Gaiden games on the NES were a pain too. And I'm sure I can come up with a ton. I don't think there's a hardest - they all have their reasons why they may be harder than others. It's better though when it's "fair" hard.
With HD TVs, due to how they work, there's gonna be a bit of delay. Most HD TVs now have a "game mode" which cuts down or eliminates this delay (usually at a price of picture quality). Though when I did this run, I was still on a SD TV so I didn't have that problem.
If you could tell it was an NES game, then it's not really tool assisted, just cheating. :P (The anniversary editions DO have turbo buttons programmed in, which is different). When I talk about Tool Assisted Speedruns, I mean emulator runs performed to god-like perfection, as in the ones at TASVideos.
@WhipLash42o IN A.D. 2101. WAR WAS BEGINNING. WHAT HAPPEN? SOMEONE SET UP US THE BOMB. WE GET SIGNAL. WHAT? MAIN SCREEN TURN ON. IT'S YOU. HOW ARE YOU GENTLEMEN? ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US. YOU ARE ON THE WAY TO DESTRUCTION WHAT YOU SAY? YOU HAVE NO CHANCE TO SURVIVE MAKE YOUR TIME. HA HA HA HA...
There actually is, if you watch the intro video to the game. Apparently Mega Man "hasn't fought in a while" (likely a joke reference to the length of time between MM8 and MM9) and has gotten rusty, thus his skills aren't up to prime.
No. I'm not that good at too many of the old MM games. I would like to improve my MM7 run, but I'm REALLY rusty, so I don't see doing that anytime soon. I've got way too much other stuff to work on right now (see my other host of videos here).
@TheNoobmapler The only reason the sounds were used is because 7 and R&F were both SNES games, while 8 was a PSX/Saturn game. Tengu, Astro, and Green Devil were all just restored after 8. Plus 8.5 is R&F's codename.
If I remember right, the main game on WiiWare was 1500 Wii Points ($15), plus a little extra for the DLC. Granted there ARE ways around all that, at least on the Wii side... (google them if you want to know)
Depends on whether GCN controllers work with this game. Cause I KNOW there are turbo GCN controllers. I wouldn't be surprised to see somebody create (or have created) a modified Classic Controller that supported turbo.
I beat it as many times as stated. I did have some restarts and aborted runs, but not much. However, I'm not as good as MegaDestructor9, who has p0wned everybody. Check out his videos on Speed Demos Archive.
While the main part of the game is the same, those guys have an advantage being that they can buy anything from the shop to give them a heads up. Which if that was done, it would be a separate category at SDA.
Unfortunately there's a lot of leaderboard rankings on this and MM10 that are clearly fake. I remember one for MM10 (on the Wii ranking board) that was under a minute by...Dr. Wily. No joke there.
amazing run i still have yet to beat Mega Man 9 on XBOX Live Aracde one thing you can be sure of is you have my ----SUB!---- and this video will be added to my ----FAVS!---- good luck out there =)
Haha. Actually, I'm really slow. If you want to see somebody who's extremely fast (yet still not using turbo) check out Tiki656's account here on UA-cam. His fingers move at ludicrous speeds.
@PJWification No offense to the poster, but if you read the first one, IT TELLS YOU. "If you don't like annotations or corney jokes, they can be turned off in the lower right corner."
Yeah, it's a bit harder because the weapons aren't as slick as in 9. There's a lot of tricks behind them to make them do the full damage, unlike 9's just plug away and watch them explode.
It doesn't count on stage select, weapon get, after the boss is killed, and the weapon select/pause screen. Timer stops at the end when you get that thing from Wily after his battle.
This run was posted well before any run was posted on SDA. The comment was in regards that the run got rejected, not because somebody else had done a run faster (at the time).
Leviathan and Harpudia were based off of Mega Man X, which takes place in 21xx, long after the Mega Man robot masters have been destroyed. Likely by Zero, but who knows. ^^;;
*yawn* And I'm suppose to care because? It's been beaten. If you want the current recognized best by SDA, to check out their site. The time on there is quite impressive.
It's a brand new game developed by Capcom (makers of all the other Mega Man games) and is available for the Wii (via the Wii Store), Xbox 360 (via XBLA), and PS3 (via PSN).
Of course she isn't...MM9 wasn't even in existence when the comic was finished. It's more playing into the character - Bob and George's Mega Man was dumb as a brick. :P
@vampiro101 If i don't pause, I have to wait until the Black Hole disappears before I can use it again. Same with any other instance of pausing w/o switching weapons.
@vampermaster89 I don't have a PS3, but the releases are the same between all 3 major consoles, save for the 360's stupid desire to swap the start and select buttons around.
I bought it on the Wii because I have one. I don't do XBLA, as I only recently got an Xbox 360, and it's live banned. Plus I like the Classic Controller better anyways.
Being in the start menu doesn't count for time. Stage select doesn't. Weapon shot doesn't. Weapon Get doesn't. Boss entrance doesn't. And a couple of other things.
I'm actually not that fast. If you want to see real button mashers, check out UA-cam users Tiki767 and Satoryu. Both of them outmash me by a mile (especially Tiki767).
It it was, I'd indicate it. So no, it's performed on an actual Wii. Plus Wii emulators are still rudimentary and are just getting capabilities to do TASes.
@kguitarista7x While this video is not done on the PS3 version (I play on the Wii), this game is available on the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 as online downloads.
@JamesTylerHope It's not weird, but that's due to naming changes, just like it's "Rockman" in Japan and "Mega Man" in the US. This case, it's "Right" vs "Light".
@jackrc11 Unique, yes. However, I didn't like the jet suit at all (give me Rush Coil any day). Power Suit was ok, but its use was really limited, I think.
Not really. Look up my Quick Shot Mode v2 video. I'm not even 8 presses per second. There's videos on here of it being done at a rate of 17+ presses per second.
It's faster to start with Splash Woman for the purposes of speed running since she takes 2 damage per buster shot, compared to everybody else who only take 1.
Not to try and discredit you or anything, but people TAS games on actual consoles too with programmable controllers. TAS doesn't necessarily mean save states, slow down, rewinds, and other emulator tools. Its any tool. If someone plays MM2 on NES with a rapid fire controller, its tool assisted. Yours clearly isn't, its a damn good manually executed speed run, but TASing isn't emulator exclusive.
@kidistight Yeah, they changed all the sound effects starting with MM3 (one of the reasons I didn't like that game at the time as much as MM1 and 2, and it still doesn't feel quite "right" to me). MM9 and 10 use the original sound effects from the first two games, especially MM2.
This brings up a question... Megaman games happen about evry year to a couple of years. In each one he faces 8 robot masters and then goes off to fight Willy in his giant death fortress. So... HOW IS HE MAKING THESE DAMN CASTLES SO FAST?
Man I remember reading the Bob and George comic around the time they revealed Top Man as being gay and Needle Man being a drug addict that sent Mega Man on an acid trip by stabbing him with his needles. Good times.
I believe she's neither a Harpy nor mermaid. She's actually a Siren, because one of her attacks involves singing, and Sirens were believed to use their songs to lead sailors into shipwrechs.
I like how this game uses some music and sound effects from Megaman 1 & 2. Best of all that added a first female robot master. God I love this game and I can't wait to get this for my Wii. Megaman rules!!!
Good job. My record is 00:25:17, I once was number 7 in the xbox leaderboards and I don't understand how the top records are 16 or something minutes :( I am number 34 now.
They made 9 and 10 into the "retro" style cause that is what people love. They did make 8 bit NES remakes of 7 and 8 for emulation. Pretty fun, you should check em out.
Uhm... okay^^ a really good Single Segment run^^ some fails but still nice^^ btw.. i dont think so, if u kill Splash as first... its faster? hm .... xD tell me why

You could say this is just on virtual console and they'd believe you. They really nailed it with the graphics, they really could fool anyone
If someone told me it was, i wouldn't believe it. Too many sprites without any sprite flicker.
YOU GOT A NEW WEAPON!
-CONCRETE- GUTS SHOT
Yo got -concrete shot- super arm
This sounds better ;)
@1:18
I thought for a split second
"Isnt he gonna swallow that big bubble before he drowns"
but then I realized, Wrong Game
1:18
Wow you skip the opening. Disrespectful.
Axl Maverick Hunter Well it's a speedrun so he is in a hurry
mouth shut

2:35 "ZOMG" Welcome to 2008.
Lol, no.
It's an old Mega Man comic strip (it's complete, so you can see it all from start to finish). Go to bobandgeorge[dot]com.
Is it just me or is that level music in slash woman's stage friggin awesome?!?!?
Yeah. I love Splash Woman theme.
*slash* woman
You heard it here folks, Slash Man has a wife
I'm loving the in-game comments. Lol.
Jesus Good Run Mate!
Question on the Side: I have made my Directors Account in September 06, yours has been created on August 06... Is there any Trick i have to Know to Upload Videos which are longer than 10 Mins?! I really want to know that =)
Dudeee, these are the collest soundtracks i've ever heared on NES. amazing :)
i'll download them from somewhere.
Yeah, well...MM doesn't have it. Protoman (a separate playable mode) does.
None, because it's far from perfect.
1:18 That part of the stage is the same thing like wave man.
Hey it is!
@tiend15 "Looking better" is all a matter of perspective. But then again, MM8 was built on a 32-bit system (PS1) whereas this was intentionally built to look like a throwback to the old 8-bit games (which were way better). Same as MM10.

I thought 40:06 was ok, granted its only my second playthrough.
You got a new weapon! The plug ball!
subtle....
Given how much I play FPS games, I'd probably need one every 3 steps to avoid cheating snipers. :P
Uh, what have you been smoking recently? Because there is no sliding, quick change, or charging the mega buster in MM9 (with Mega Man anyways, though Proto Man doesn't have quick change either).
It's a WiiWare game done in the style of the NES classics.
Been there done that. I beat them before you were even BORN, boy. :P
First, 27:21 is slow. It's slower then this time, plus my time is slow as well. Check out Master Zed's run at Speed Demos Archive and be amazed at that.

Heh, I'm not THAT fast of a shooter, really. Go look at the MM9 speed runs at SDA. THAT is fast shooting.
Though if that were the case, Tornado Man would be like a 200 year older brother.
MaN! You got legendary timing for all of those enemies you leap over. 5-star video. Keep postin!
loved the annotes, very funny, lol
There's about 6 minutes of errors in here, but as I said, I'm done speed running this.
And yes, I'm aware that you can freeze the magma.
I try, though it is a bit time consuming, given how much I've been adding recently.
Eh, everybody is being waxed by Master Zed. His times are actually showing up on the Wii's All Clear scoreboard. Look at his times if you can - they're incredible!

lol this game is not hard .
Damn kids nowadays are using r.coil. I remember the days we had to wait until the stones appeared in Mega Man 1! I'm too old for this!
mm1 is really good but hard
GabrielGamingAregile that’s why Rush came into existence, along with the slide and charge shot.
Oh please. You had Magnet Beam from the start and you know it.
Brillant
good game
Why aren't you going to submit it to SDA?
I enjoyed this very much
I've encountered a lot of hard games in my time, some fair, some not. Ikaruga, Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth (on Hard Difficulty), Castlevania III, and probably any bullet hell shooter. I definitely don't have a photographic memory. I did play the game quite a few times before making that run though, but definitely far from non-stop.
I honestly don't have any objections to it, nor the removal of the charge shot. (Protoman has that too.) Maybe it was because I liked MM2 over 4-6.
Hum, I always wondered why I was the only one I've seen who uses the Rush Jet like you do during 18:11 during Magmaman's stage. I guess I'm not. :P
Too bad my time is slow. The guy that's #5 on the Wii all-clear board (Master ZED)? That time is single-session from scratch. I'm not kidding.
@kidistight Yeah, they changed all the sound effects starting with MM3 (one of the reasons I didn't like that game at the time as much as MM1 and 2, and it still doesn't feel quite "right" to me). MM9 and 10 use the original sound effects from the first two games, especially MM2.

Great video and playthrough, but your comments are a little douchy. No need to get defensive like that. The guy gave you a compliment.
If you think that's fast, go watch a video by Tiki or Freddy at Speed Demos Archive. They make me look slow (which in fact, I am).
This brings up a question...
Megaman games happen about evry year to a couple of years. In each one he faces 8 robot masters and then goes off to fight Willy in his giant death fortress. So...
HOW IS HE MAKING THESE DAMN CASTLES SO FAST?
You can't TAS Wii games...yet.
Besides, if it was TASed, that would be pathetic because it can be beaten by over 7 minutes.
Actually, I already had submitted, but it was rejected. Not that it matters, because my time has been destroyed by Satoryu.
Man I remember reading the Bob and George comic around the time they revealed Top Man as being gay and Needle Man being a drug addict that sent Mega Man on an acid trip by stabbing him with his needles.
Good times.
this new megaman game has great graphics i like how they put back megaman 2 musics in there, they really care about fans
I believe she's neither a Harpy nor mermaid. She's actually a Siren, because one of her attacks involves singing, and Sirens were believed to use their songs to lead sailors into shipwrechs.

Uhm... okay^^
a really good Single Segment run^^
some fails but still nice^^
btw.. i dont think so, if u kill Splash as first... its faster? hm .... xD tell me why
WOW the BOSS' plug ball was defeated by MEGAMANS Jewel Shield???? Whats going on there? That never ever happens. Usually the boss' weapon always wins.
It's intentional by the designers, in order to replicate the minimal # of sound channels that the NES had.
Does anyone know the cost of this game? I would assume its fairly cheap since its basicly a nintendo game.
yeah...just like in mostt MM games...! =)
I don't understand what he mean by the word "ZOMG A HARPIE!" any explanation. I'm new to english and of course slang word is out of question
