They actually used it quite a bit this weekend. I heard it more than a half dozen times over the weekend. In the past 4 or 5 times I've seen it run since 2016 I'd never heard it before this past Saturday.
@@HTTVChannel No, both whistles (is has two in addition to the horn) worked just fine at every other crossing. It's there, might as well use it. That's one of the things that makes 261 unique.
I sure would of loved to go and see 261 since I have family up in Minneapolis Minnesota but with my new summer job with metro in la I can't go anywhere even for a weekend until its over on August 2 2019 but at least I got this great to video watch in the end to turn my frown upside down
N&W 611 for me, Would love to see a CB&Q O5 class 4-8-4 restored as well. There are 2 other NKP berkshires in the works right now and it would be nice to see something unique for a change. One class that sadly wasn't saved that I'm also a fan of is the Atlantic Coast line R-1 class 4-8-4. You should look them up sometime, they were beautiful engines.
@Nathaniel Cruz - You are probably thinking about the Union Pacific; they did have many E9s & still have 3 in their " Heritage Fleet ". Northern Pacific fans, correct me if I am wrong, but I read somewhere the Northern Pacific only had F units.
@@Petemonster62 doubtful, a following section would only be true if there was another section of excursion train following. They probably just had them on because they look cool, because no US commen carrier uses class lights anymore to designate something.
@@Mike_Squires - You are probably right! Classification lights were another visual method of communication in the pre-2-way radio days to be seen by station agents, tower operators, crews of trains on sidings, section gangs, & other railroad workers.
@@marsh2202 The E9 wasn't used to power the brakes or serve as a backup. It was used to haul the consist back, and to supply head end power to all the cars, except the on directly behind 261. 4:15 K&L Trainz origin whistle
The funny thing is I’m sure I watched her pass us multiple times and I was right next you the whole time without knowing.
it's about time they use the red mars light on 261 (8:31)
Rare use of its air horn at 0:45 !

Zach Pumphery interesting. Maybe they’re having some problems with the whistle.

I really thought it was gonna be a whistle, and I was shocked to hear that horn 😅
Only two locomotives that I know of that have horns: Milwaukee 261 and Southern Pacific 4449.
A lot of Chinese steam locomotives have air horns.
Yes
Why did they have them
@@ArnavKhode Sometimes the whistle is not loud enough.
At higher speeds they are more audible
Nice to see your videos back on UA-cam!! This one is TERRIFIC!! Thanks Andy!!
Did anyone see the clean firebox sheet on the outside? The crew did an excellent job on it.
Looked so good against that high polish black

Same.
4:15 Loving that ATSF 6 Chime!
Air horn battle SP 4449 and Milw 261
Lovely video
261 is my favorite steam engine
Railyard Films 4501 is

I see the E unit is running good! Why does 261 have the green classification lights turned on?
Petemonster62 I'm not quite sure. My guess is for more visibility at night instead of the one headlight. It looks cool either way in my opinion.
@@ahtrains Perhaps, since the E Unit was at the rear of the train, it could be considered a " Second Section ".

Shiny. How do sync a 4-8-4 steamer with an E unit? Are there controls for this in the 261?
I believe the locomotive on the back is just there to power the air brakes, and to serve as a backup loco, should the 261 break down.
@@WranglerSlim The E9 was used to haul the train back I believe.

Simple actually, two locomotives - two crews.
Would it kill them to use her original whistle as the main whistle for once?!
Cool
1:51 Nevermind, there’s the whistle 😗
I thought 261's whistle was fixed???? Now its horn is screwed up again
At 1:12
Why is the Whistle or Horn Screwed up? Both sounded fine to me.
@@6484373 Does 261 have an air horn?
The 261 has 2 whistle and an air horn
I figured it wouldn't make any sense a steam engine having a horn
Would love to see a MILW 261/NKP 765 doubleheader future steam excursion from Chicago to St. Louis.
Alright they finally got a mechanical Bell on the E unit good riddance that crappy Ebell
261 is so beautiful
Can the horn it’s a steam engine
