Crossing Replacement at Chanhassen

Mechanical bells have been beloved by railfans for a long time but unfortunately they don’t make them anymore and instead get replaced by E- Bells. Here at Great Plains Blvd in Chanhassen will see both versions of the crossings. First with a UP grain train and then a CP ethanol train with a CSX leader.
As of posting this video between Glencoe and Minneapolis there are only two mechanical bell crossings left along the TCW.

After seeing the Borealis, I ended up seeing a Loram rail grinder equipment move going east along CPKC’s River Sub. We start off at Reds Landing and chase the Loram set to Weaver where it had a meet with CP 541. Will chase that 541 to Red Wing before calling it a day. After that chase I went up north for something that’ll be seen in the next video…stay tuned.

A Leslie RS3L is something you wouldn’t expect to find on the main these days but there are a few still out there. I got lucky to see two in the same day, one CN and one BNSF. Willmar’s east local had a fun set of power with two BN and one H1 painted SD40-2s for power. Will chase it going east and west along the Wayzata Sub. From Litchfield to Waverly and back to Dassel before calling it a day. It’s a little on the rare side to get 3 locomotives on that train.

Throughout 2024 I made several trips to the Hinckley Sub. This line gets quite the variety with three class 1s keeping the rails shining, with BNSF UP, and CP running daily trains. Will see footage as far north as Boylston so as far south as Andover. Not sure what 2025 will bring on this line but hopefully a couple trips to make some memories.

Later that week I would chase the holiday train across the Paynesville Sub, starting at Plymouth just before night fell then the night chase began as the train rounded the big curve out of Rockford, at South Haven they had to meet 240. After the Kimball show, it would be a fast paced chase from Eden Valley all the way to Glenwood.

Always great to see local power used on road freights. In this case we get treated with an EMD pair on a WLMNTW and a ABENTW. On a fine October afternoon, CP 6017 and 6025 hauled a loaded ballast train westbound on the CPKC Paynesville Sub. I chased from Maple Lake to Sedan, it was a challenge to keep with the train doing track speed with the no meets between Buffalo and Glenwood so a couple video scenes were rushed.

KCS 2973 on the MN&S Job| 9/5/2024

For a short amount of time, KCS 2973 was based at CPKC’s Humboldt yard and lead locals during its stay. On this day we see it on the MN&S job going back north to Humboldt yard. Starting off at St Louis Park and ending at Golden Valley. The MN&S job is only job out of Humboldt where you can constantly get to hear it’s nice K5LA as there are plenty of crossings between Humboldt and Bloomington.
