- Ryan Hughes’s final race, the 125 Dream Race crash turned into a nightmare. Ryno suffered a broken neck when racing an old 2 stroke Honda CR motorcycle which landed on his head. The 2-Stroke only Washougal 125 Dream Race brought up many challenges including several bike mechanicals. Ryan rode the 40+ 125 class and the 125 Marty Smith Vintage race.
Ryan Hughes has since recovered from the broken neck but was left with some muscle imbalances/paralysis in his arms. He can still be found coaching around Southern California and elsewhere via The Ryno Institute www.therynoins...
Ryan Hughes 125 Dream Race Results:
Race 1: 125 40+ Moto 1 - DNF
Race 3: 125 40+ LCQ - Moto Win
Race 4: 125 40+ Main Event - Moto Win
Race 2: 125 Marty Smith Moto 1 - Fouled plug, Last place
Race 5: 125 Marty Smith Moto 2 - Broken Neck
Check out my other 2021 125 Dream Race VLOGs from the beautiful Washougal Motocross Park.

Some of the audio got messed up on exporting and uploading. After 3 attempts (2 days. 7gb upload) of trying to get this online with good audio, I gave up. Sorry.
I was blessed back in 1996 to spend a few days in Mexico with Ryan and a insane group of guys. One of the best trips of my life. Super cool dude. I'm stoked to see him still out and about doing what he loves. The older we get we start appreciating life more, killer video bro. Thanks
Cool.
Yeah he's a wild man and personality, but he really does have a caring heart. Thanks for watching 🤙
Good video and in a lot of ways you got it to us just fine and we would have less with nothing at all. God bless all.
Fwiw I didn’t notice. Not having the original footage we don’t know what it was supposed to sound like.
What film editor do you use? I'm trying to get into editing my videos, Prayers for Ryno
Thank you Ryno for sharing the real emotion that day! It's important for men to see real emotion and tears from a man of such grit, determination and strength. It's obvious you're a man of great emotion whether it be in racing or life, and that is something men need to embrace more of...showing emotion and caring about things. Great job Ryno, happy for your recovery.
The joys of getting old ryno.. bless you man💯👏 you’ll never give up
Ryno, we love you! You are a LEGEND! We're all praying for your speedy recovery 🙏 Keep ripping
Broke my heart at the end. Reminds me of when my dad hung his boots up. I'm 34 now still racing my 2019 RMZ 450 but I know my day will come too.
Thanks for the video's John. It was great to see "behind the scenes" and watch Ryan ride. Praying for a speedy and complete recovery for Ryan.
Get well soon Ryno! You are a legend.
Ryno you're in my prayers, thanks for showing people that life is to be LIVED and it's a precious gift!
All is good, brother. We got you in prayer! You’re the man! Keep fighting!!!
Ryno always been a fan. Hope your recovery goes well. Hate to see any rider go down and get injured. Like you said it's a dangerous sport we choose. You're a Warrior the emotion is all a part of the racers life. I have a fusion too. Still riding and racing age class 60+ A. If we stop we die, life is meant to be lived to the fullest, not sitting in a rocker. I'll be praying for your speedy recovery.
Thoughts and prayers are with you Ryno! Wish you a speedy recovery and keep inspiring!
Hope you heal soon man, you are an inspiration. God bless you.
Hey Ryno even if you had paralysis you'd get through it. I know I did. c4-c5 quad since 2003. Glad you made it out still an AB.
Respect broke upper C 456 in 2000
Yes, we choose a sport that can put us down in a heartbeat. It's the healing time as we get older that hurts my heart the most.
Stay strong brother. It’s hard. Keep up the good fight we are behind you.
I’ll be praying for ya brother, U stay strong 💪 God doesn’t leave great Men like you.. Ur a Champion...!!
Praying for speed recovery. Heal up brother 🙏
The last race of the weekend,...crazy that Ryan didn’t have to go, it was just a fun race. Such a bummer but he made the weekend for all the fans just by being there 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
#chargelife
My brother, your shit started leaking and that got my shit leaking...
Anyway, I just wanted you to know it's been a blast watching you ride and going through old emails and moto mags of your racing progress. I've ridden 125 cr Hondas ever since they made the Elsinore. You don't know me and that's the beauty of it... you're still family my brother. I'm an old entertainment roadie and know how to stay grey and out da way.
Just know there are thousands of us out here in Motoville U.S.A and we are still here to take every damned step with you.
GET THERE!

Well said 👌
Even when you going through tough time you continue to inspire everyone. That part at the end of the video. I really needed to hear that. You are a f#cking legend! Awesome video!
Get well! In similar situation. Neck injury this summer and things get scary. Lost a riding buddy this year due to broken neck, RIP. Other riding buddy blew both ankles, he's done. It is SO hard to quit but none of us want to live with disabilities or chronic pain. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of riding I can due to limit risk. Trail, Enduro, street... but I miss the jumps!! Depressing but we gotta focus on what we can do with a good body. Have fun, worship a good body!
Good to see he’s finally come around on the neck brace!
Forced into one for a few weeks anyway.
Good advice at the end. Always listen to you gut!
Ryan is a beast ,he trained Eli Tomac. Good luck on your recovery Ryan we are rooting for you here in Yuma Arizona.
I’ve learned so much watching Ryno’s training videos. Please take care of you. Praying for a full recovery.🙏
Great video John, I was there and pulling for Ryno as we were all wondering what happened. I'm thankful he was walking by himself 48 hrs later. If I watched his last race as he says it's his last I consider myself lucky, thanks for the vid John! See you at the dream race next year.👍
👍 to all that.
Get well brother! My prayers and thoughts go out to you.
I know this isnt your channel but...... Hey Ryno. "BE HERE NOW" Ram Dass... .“The most dangerous risk of all: the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” Alan Watts... You truly embody these quotes well my friend! Rest up buddy. Just focus on getting healthy I know you know the drill. But I also know it may be hard to take your time because of how well you have been doing lately and how amazing your channel is and how many fans you have. We are all family in this sport. It's more a way of life. But, we only want you to be well and 100% healthy so we can see you at your best yet and I know we'll see you even sooner than you think... keep on doing you brotha!
Heal quick Ryan, god bless you!

Get better soon Ryno! About ten years ago 6 months before my little boy was born I was racing stadium and messed up a jump somehow. I ended up crashing bad and bounced off the ground then back down again. I ended up fracturing t3 through t9 and collapse my right long which really sucked at 1st cause you can’t breathe very good for a bit and you keep gasping for air. But like he said we pick something we like and some are dangerous and we go right back at it.
Love you man, your strength is awesome, those bikes where old roaches, your skills too powerful for the old steeds. Get well soon brother.
What a saga man rhino hope you come back stronger than ever looking forward to seeing you back on your bike ..
Get better soon brother we all love you
I hope Ryno has a speedy recovery!!! Never give up. Here I am just trying to get some seat time on my new CRF250R. I've only gotten to ride it really like twice since I got it. Love watching Ryno's tips until I can get a chance to ride.
There will be more tips to come. Thank you for your thoughts 🤙
Ryno, you’re a beast bro, shout out from NY district 34 MX.
Ryan, heal well and soon. John and Ryan, thank you for spending some time chatting with us at the B-Moto tent.
Ryno... you are still just as tough now as you were when I watched you race during the 90’s. I was inspired then, and am just as inspired now. Sorry to hear this happened... many prayers for you to recover and become stronger than before. All difficult experiences have the ability to wear us down or temper us. It all depends on how the lesson is observed. Keep tempering your soul... it will never die unless you allow it to. Stay true, man. Many prayers for your healing... praise the Lord!
You are definitely an inspiration.
Hoping for a complete recovery!

The guy who bought my 86 cr250 called me up a week later to thank me for his broken shoulder blade. I offered to buy the bike back and he said "Hell no man, I love that bike." Lol.
I had the same surgery.. anterior spinal fusion c5 thru 7. Ryno will be fine in 3 to 4 weeks. I was back to work in 6 weeks. A little discomfort for a few years but all good now. Still ride.
I has c5-c7 fusion also. It took a few years to forget I had it but now I jog and mountain bike just fine. I do have my bars higher though and don’t hit big jumps.
We can't lose our hero, Rhino!! You are the man! Stay with it brother!!
