I'm still trying to understand a lot of fans in their dislike of the series as though they wanted it to be a direct word for word repeating of the cartoon series which would be awful as an idea I did believe that there were definitely characters were certain parts were the script fell flat repetitive or seemed extremely weak all in all I gave it a solid B

@@Slim_Albusthe crazy part is that if you paid attention to any of the other UA-cam subscribers including this one he said the reason why they left ultimately was because the original creators have the tendency of wanting to change a lot of the base premise of what they created which conflicted with the Netflix staff I'm trying to hold on to the base of what the series was originally

3 episodes in so far, and I have to say this feels like a lot different from the original show, which in my opinion isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Me personally, I’ve always wanted the live action to feel like it could stand on its own, and I think it’s done good job at that. It’s one of those shows where you have to be willing to accept the changes to like it. If you’re gonna hyper critical abt it, u’re gonna hate it. It feels like ATLA, and it’s got its spirit, that’s all I needed. The more we think about it, the more ppl would start to appreciate it imo, and I can tell so far the writers actually cares about the show

Some small details were changed but still made sense. The water bending scroll already being in the water tribe, Aang had a bison whistle during a time in which bison were numerous and even though Kyoshi was introduced early the fact that Aang encountered her there on Kyoshi Island still made sense. It's like they did away with all the filler but still kept details from it which is better than just skipping over it like how the movie did.

First I would say the cgi were fantastic unlike the previous forgotten version. Firebending looks awesome, earth and water is bit rough but there were some scenes I liked like Bumi bending earth and we see it falling apart and sand trickle down, it was a good addition. Also the scene from the blue mask was adapted perfectly, this is what I would have wanted for the entire series, a bit of the old with a mix of new unshown stuff like the dialogue btwn aandlg and Zuko. Did not like the changes made btwn the relationship of Ozai, Zuko.and Azula, Azula looks desperate to please her father as if she is not a prodigy. Aang and Katara relationship is basically nonexistence and what was sokkas doing with Katara in the tunnels, just bad. Overall I. Enjoyed the series but I think it might improve in the later seasons

It seemed like they couldn't decide between showing and telling. They give us a detailed voiceover to explain what the characters themselves would go on to say explicitly, such as Gyatso and Exposition-grandma. The fights were epic, well choreographed and had good CGI, but why show the Airbender genocide and then give the characters no room to interact? Better than 2010, but it gave the characters no time to justify the fervor and emotional connections they were supposed to have based on how they act. Everyone seems flat and very happy to move the plot along without much cause. It adds little to the vintage of Avatar. "You're the bravest person I've ever known"??

      I'm with you!
      - For the things Netflix added👍🏿
      - For the things Netflix changed👎🏿.
      SPOILERS
      1. Netflix poorly fleshed out Aang's motivation for leaving the Air Nation -- he leaves out of conflict within himself; he does not want to leave the only family he's ever known (Gyatso) to begin his Avatar training. He wants to stay and be a kid with his friends and fellow airbenders. THIS conflict motivates him to leave -- dude leaves Gyatso a note! He doesn't "go on a ride with Appa to clear his head" like Netflix claims.
      2. Speaking of Gyatso, they completely changed the nature of his death. Gyatso's body is discovered by Aang, Sokka, and Katara SURRONDED by Fire Nation soldiers -- suggesting Gyatso died defending himself (killing Firebenders)... Meanwhile, Netflix had Gyatso burned by Fire Lord Sozin after putting up a minor fight... that's not the same thing!
      3. So Aang can fly now? IS Netflix taking a page out of The Legend of Korra? Aang should not be able to fly -- THAT'S WHY HE HAS A GLIDER!
Lol, whatever. so Aang can fly... fine. This is NOT why or how Aang earned his airbending tattoos. Yes -- Aang is an airbending master, but giving him this ability seemed wrong. They could've chosen a better way to show audiences his skills.

      4. Sokka. Season 1 Sokka IS SUPPOSED to be a misogynist who does not understand/respect waterbending (or any form of bending) -- in the original series he calls Katara's waterbending "magic", he doesn't take bending seriously. Additionally, Season 1 Sokka thinks women belong in one place -- in the village tending to domestic tasks. We don't really see either in Netflix's depiction of Sokka (at least in 1x1).
      5. The canoe ride between Sokka and Katara is changed. Sokka and Katara are SUPPOSED to lose the canoe -- the canoe shatters among the ice in the original series, leaving them with no way back to their village, and IT'S HERE THAT Aang offers them Appa as a safe means back home.
Why is this important? Back to Sokka's disregard for bending -- after the canoe shatters that and the 3 are left stranded that Aang offers them a ride via Appa, Sokka gives the remark "... "; essentially mocking Aang, showing his disbelief of Appa's ability to fly and Aang's identity as an airbender.
To be fair, I love the things Netflix added:
      - Giving Gran-Gran the same dialogue Katara recites in the opening of the original series (A PERFECT WAY to show the culture of the Water Tribe and how passing stories from generation to generation is an essential part of it)
      - Having the Air Nation celebrate the "Comet Festival" as a means of gather ALL airbenders together so the Fire Nation could execute them all.
      - I especially loved the idea of having an Earthbender soldier discover the Fire Nation's war plans to use the comet (Sozin's Comet) to begin the 100-year war (lol, reminded me a lot of the closing scene in Star Wars: Rogue One).
Speaking of Star Wars; think about Order 66 and all the ways audiences have seen that story told:
      - Revenge of the Sith (1st intro)
      - The Mandalorian (Grogu's flashback)
      - Obi-Wan Kenobi series (Reva's flashback)
      - Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Master Depa Billaba's death scene)
      - Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 7 (Ashoka and Cpt. Rex fighting off the clones).
Lucasfilms does a GREAT job of filling in those holes; finding new ways to revisit a story/topic audiences already know... WITHOUT DISTRACTING FROM/CONFLICTING with source material.
Change plot points, fine -- but at least stay true to source material. The original series is fine, it doesn't need changing. But if you MUST change anything, just add detail or fill in gaps where there some.
YES, Netflix gave audiences great visuals and filled some holes in the story much of audiences already know from the original series; they screwed up in a few areas by removing relevant details from the original series.

Just putting out here, ATLA did a better job at adopting and keeping things compared to One Piece.
Loved the One piece still and its still genrally considered to be a great adaptation albeit flawed.
ATLA is imo better than it. So I if people in geneal liked One Piece. ATLA on that level too.
For comparisons One piece did mishmashing too and lost some story beats as a result and at lwast for AtLa they find some way to still keep those story beats or at least evoke them in an alternative way.
One piece did the Garp and Koby th8ng and Ata's version of that is the Ozai and Azula thing.
But again the Garp thing caused the plot tobplay out differently meanwhile the Ozai thing did not do so much chnage to make things playout entirely diffrently.
Like if I will give one leg up One pice over had Atla is that One pice had more practical sets at its disposal and less usage of Green screen backgrounds.
As a dude who Both love the og source and still love the live action for both of them. I can confidently say ATLA had the better adaptation

Take note that OP LA had to compress nearly 100 episodes worth of anime/manga content into 8 episodes, ATLA had more liberties since the OG series Book 1 was shorter

    • @Snzn_7
      @Snzn_7 7 місяців тому

@eaningonasquishedbun5542 Do take note, if the One piece remake by studio wit comes out, the entire East saga won't be like 20 episodes long , it will be under that if we go by seasonal anime standards and can go up to 20 episodes if they do things rather slowly though.
Take bleach tywb as an example 2 cours(basically 26 episodes) adapted like 129 chapters in total.
So yes East saga is probably less than or just about 20 episodes worth if we go by a seasonal anime adaptation. And also tbh, The most of the arcs in the east blue saga will be better off if it has more a tighter pacing.

Honest assessment, it takes after the original in that it gets better as you go but it's not as good as the cartoon. Certain things with pacing timing and visuals you can't do live action and the original was perfect even in its imperfections. That being said this one is actually different and stories are crossed in different places like secret tunnels so this shouldn't be evaluated compared to the cartoon. I say it should be compared to the movie, I remember what I felt before I went to see that and if this was what we got instead of that we would be living in a better version of reality. I know you've always been a super fan and I absolutely adored the show so I'm really glad it's finally getting a live action version that actually does it justice rather than what I could only consider a saw torture mechanism "I would like to play a game, there is a code that will unlock this door hidden in m nights The last Airbender which will be playing on so if you pay attention to it closely you may be able to leave this before you starve to death but only at the cost of your mind" 😳 'can't you just have flopsy beat me to death, or koh, look at me I'm smiling 😊😭🤪 damn it what face do you want just take my eyes.'

The pacing is really weird. They rush through some stuff and other things feel extremelly slow. I also got a bit tired of feeling like I was watching some semiprofound statement every 2min instead of normal interactions. Alot of conversations did not feel real at all and was a bit cringy at some points.
Most of the effects are good and the show looks nice. I think zukos actor feels the most natural and accurate in the way he acts.

Watched all 8 Episodes today. My score for the series is a 9/10 across the board. Definitely recommend, will be showing and watching with my 8yr old daughter once she is home from school on Friday and over the weekend.
    1) They show the air nomad deaths, so to adults, watch first 20 minutes before kids. Otherwise kids can watch once Aang is in ice.
    2) This is not a copy of the original. 8 Live action episodes to tell story of 20 cartoon episodes. Episode 6 of original looks like it will be in season 2. Season 2 episode 2 of original is added into season 1.
    3) The first episode is the first 3 episodes together with the deaths of the air nomads.
    4) Original cartoon Episodes 4, 5, 7-10, 12, 13, 15, and 17 have their essential episode essence represented, in episodes 2 through 6 of the live action. A lot of things are re-ordered. Some things are expanded You will see parts of things from a recognizable episode mashed with events from other episodes.
    5) Watch the entire thing before judging. Sometimes you will think something was forgotten only to learn, that the other parts or viewpoints of a given episode are in a follow-up episode. The way the episodes are mashed together means the story jumps between events of various episodes, so the representation of one episode might occur across 2 or 3 episodes; or there may be an intervening episode.
    6) Do Not PreJudge. The format is different than the original cartoon, initially the order will seem odd. Just hang in with it, overall it does work.
    7) Episodes 11, and 14 are not shown, but pay attention anytime Zuko, Iroh, or Zhou get a report. The events of those episodes are mentioned but it’s a one time blink, or talk and you will miss it. These episodes have indirect representation in the series. The honorable mentions in the reports made me laugh while watching.
    8) The Jeong Jeong part of Episode 16 might occur in season 2, or 3 without Zhou. Jeong Jeong is not in season 1 of this live action.
    9) The last 2 episodes of the Netflix Live action have been mashed together and reorder the events of original cartoon episodes 18-20. The Katara vs Paku fight is Wow!
    10) Koh will appear far earlier than expected. and not when or how fans expect. He is still a creepy, freaky, and dangerous spirit. They expand Koh’s role to include some of the lore with him from the comics as well. He is voiced by George Takei (Sulu from 1966 Star Trek).
    11) The original voice actor of the cabbage man, plays and is the cabbage man in this Netflix live Action series!!
    12) The previous 3 avatars and ocean spirit La, at points will be given permission by Aang to use him as a channel. Kyoshi is obvious. Many people apparently missed when Roku did so. Pay attention, do not miss it by talking or by being distracted by what Roku is showing and teaching Aang. Kurik will refuse. La’s turn is OBVIOUS.
    13) Azula’s machinations are definitely as evil as Ozai’s. Yes Azula learns lightning bending before the end of season 1. She is far darker than the original cartoon.

I liked a few of the changes, such as: Zuko doing his homework on the avatar, the brutality as the Netflix version actually makes clear that this is true war, a showing of the air nomad genocide as we only saw the after effects in the cartoon, Sokka putting up a good fight against Zuko, and lastly the incorporation of the festival to explain why a majority of the air nomads were present in one location, and lastly the beautiful bending.

The main cast's acting & overall chemistry with one another isn't great 😔(granted I've only finished episode 1) And there's some other fundamentally weird things for me.
    Like...
-Why would the Air Nomads be sending basically like "troops" to help defend the Earth Kingdom from the Fire Nation?
-Why would Aang find out about the genocide of his people with a bunch of expository dialogue, without experiencing the tragic aftermath firsthand?
-Why would Iroh have a weird, one-sided dialogue with Aang while he's captured?
There was some other icks I had, like how Aang & the Water Tribe villagers had almost "factory-sealed, mint condition" outfits on; super vibrant, colorful and detailed... not at all what you'd expect from a small & struggling village. The dialogue in general is pretty bad as well.
There's good things too, though-- it's clear where all that CGI money went. The environments are gorgeous (even if the original southern air temple is superior), the more grandiose changes in tone & scale (the 'Game of Thrones' feel they were going for) I can get behind, too. Showing how brutal fire can be is a needed change from the original.
Overall as a live-action adaptation, some changes were inherently needed but it's just kind of a mixed bag for me so far. I'll have to keep watching to develop my full opinion on this version of the story. 🔥🍃🌊🪨

The chemistry in the first episode is bad because they were still social distancing while filming those southern water tribe scenes

One Piece LA was filmed during pandemic and social distancing and they had a better chemistry, I chalk it up to the cast still trying to find their dynamics with each other@@elisitbon4672

@@elisitbon4672 you're thinking of the sense of space in a scene, I'm referring more to how the actors interact with each other on an acting level. I don't think they were filmed separately and put into the same scene like dr. strange 2 or anything, although honestly sometimes you might get that impression based on the dialogue delivery

The show on its own is great but there’s so many changes that I have to constantly try to separate it from the original. I understand why they did it but there’s so much packed into a single episode that it heavily throws off the pacing. Overall 7/10

    Spoiler!!
There were just two things I did not enjoy. First of all: the Bumi and Cave of Lovers mashup. It made sense for Bumi to be bitter. But then still have the weird tests? Pretty strange to me. And the cave of lovers thing with Katara and Sokka was just... Weird. And unnecessary to me. And then flowing from there, what was up with Katara? She was just only about bending and that strong bond between her and Aang was not there. They have very little chemistry. 😢
Overall, definitely enjoyed it. It feels supertrue to the original world. And they def payed a lot of attention to details of the world and story. But sometimes, the remixing of storylines was a little heavy. Id give it about a 7.8/10

Visually the series was good, however the script, rushed scenes and acting just caused the overall series to lack any empathy and warmth. I think the editors need to realise that sometimes a pause is needed to take in the scene/ emotions.
