So sad to hear that Ian passed away last month. His beautiful, flowing, melodic solos and phrasing on Alan Parsons' albums will forever be embedded in my consciousness. God bless Ian, you've been old and wise for many decades and your work is testament to that wisdom.
Great solos here by the late Ian Bainson (RIP) with Pilot, one of my favourite bands of the '70s, and a group of top-notch fusionists, including bassist Stanley Clarke (5.50).
There's something about that distinctive bending, vibrating, phrasing, sliding and crossing those boundaries between pop, rock, jazz and time. In another aeon, I might humbly let you know, what that's all about.
That may have been just the Les Paul Custom with the Marshall Plexi on the Orange 4x12 cab switching the pickups and lowering the volume knobs now and then. In the later clips from a German TV Show with Curt Cress at one drum set the guitar had different pickups (DiMarzios ?). I agree that his sound has always been great, also on Alan Parsons albums.
5:50 - is from a show called Jazz In Concert featuring German drummer Curt Cress, Steve Gadd, Stanley Clarke, Hermann Weindorf, and Kurt Baebi. More great playing from Ian: ua-cam.com/video/i_kSoGKnKtc/v-deo.html
I have a Les Paul and it's the guitar that I use the least.. Shame on me! Great Video document.. Thanks (Ian Bairnson plays.. in the title, without E, I guess!)

Rest in peace Mr Ian Bairson. A most amazing guitar player and iconic as master as him is 😓
RIP Ian Bairnson, thanks for the beautiful guitar solos!!!
Simply the best.
Fantastic musician for decades - everything he played and everyone he played with was better for his presence. Rest in peace.
Iain RIP, you were one of the best
Fortunate to meet him and talk on the phone and especially, see him perform. He's the greatest!
Totally agree. One of the best guitar players ever.
Rest In Peace, John "Ian" Bairnson, August 3 1953-April 7 2023.🎸🍻🕊️
What an incredibly melodic player.
I rank guitarists by the pleasure they give to my ears. By that measure Bairnson is in the top ranks.
I "liked" this video before even watching it ... because Ian is involved :-)
I love this guitarist and his work with PILOT

The solo from 5:52 to 8:12.....uuuuffff, one of the best electric guitar solos in modern music. Ian Bairson, my favorite one,,,,,🙏🌈

Ian Bairnson was part of the UK group PARIS at the time of their 1981 single HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE. A goodie it was too.
Such a great musician!
Pure class bairnson
Great guitar player!

O guitarrista da banda The Alan Parsons Project. Simplesmente fera!!!
Killer playing and tone from Ian here. Do we know what drive pedal he was using on the first few clips?
I have no idea but nowadays he uses Boss pedals.
@@TheIanbairnsonmania thanks. Great tones and playing.

No pedals, just Les Paul, lead and a 50 watt Marshall
Go to his website and he lists what gear he used
@@tonykennedy8483 thanks. Very interesting. 👍

He sounds a little Issei Noro. Amazing. Stanley Clarke. On the bass.
Wuthering Heights brought me here. Sad that I only realised it was his genius until he had sadly passed away, I thought it was Dave Gilmour.

一番好きなレスポールの音です 鼻が詰まった
6:18 the drummer extraordinaire is the German Curt Cress
Peccato
Alan Parsons must have gave him some direction because he was more melodic when he was in the A P A
Stanley Clarke at the bass ??
David Paton.
Well in that late clip, yes.
Oh yeah. Do you love me? 😍💋 💝💖❤️
