Yes. I live in zone 8A and the soft neck varieties were all sold out at places like Keene Garlic 4-5 months before planting time! So PLAN AHEAD! However, they do make an effort to help the slow pokes like me with some varieties, whether they are soft or hard neck, that will still grow in your area. I planted what they sent me in the ground in Hugelculture beds in mid November (which were hard neck varieties) and now a month later, after planting them 3-4 inches deep and 4 inches apart, 75% of them have produced 2-3 inch shoots.
Great content
What are your thoughts regarding pre soaking garlic cloves prior to planting with fish fertilizer and baking soda?
first!!!! love ur vids!
Great info! Mine have been in the fridge cus i add garlic to my juices. But Im a little confused though on one point...everyone recommends a different depth of pot to put a glove in...ive read 3inches...6...18....now 8-10 lol. Im just starting and have 4 inch containers i was thinking about using to plant garlic and put on my window shelf lol but now im not sure thats big enough...maybe do the roots go deep like onions or wide or both...what is best for a single garlic clove? Since it takes months i dont want to experiment lol maybe a half gallon milk container? Lol
Thanks
Love your hair and of course videos...Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays to you too, Fran and thank you! Appreciate the visit!

I have some Gilroy garlic that I just noticed is starting to sprout, so your video is very timely. Thanks for the guidance. BTW I heard you were at the Mandarin Festival after the face 😔. I live in the Mandarin capital of the world and I've never gone to it (too many people) LOL! BUT I would have gone to hear you speak. I'll keep an eye out for next year. Love you videos.
Love your garlic video. I planted mine a while ago and the greens popped out, however we had the two days of heavy rain storm. I was unable to bring in my container, (it was a 20 gal. grow bag, no handles) I had covered the pot with plastic, but we had high wind and my covering didn't do well. Should I plant more garlic, not sure if the 20 gal pot survive the rain. The greens on top looks good, but not sure about what's under the soil. I having the same issue with my bulbing onions. Are my plants doomed with two much warer? Pots are drying out
I live in Leamington Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 and I was told to wait to plant my garlic after the frost. This will be my first time to grow in a container, we sold the house and live on the 11th floor apartment with an east view .It might be difficult to find compost at this time of year so just black muck and what kind of fertilizer should I use? If you have the time to drop me a note I would appreciate it. Thank you.
How do yopu manage to keep the birds and squirrels from invading the pot?
I cover the container with Thule and clip the tool to the container, as well. The battle is real, Eddie. Kim
So for us northern gardeners, if we plant garlic now, will it be ready to harvest in June?
Thanks for another great video, glad to hear from Camera Guy too! You two work great together! I’m near Nashville and started my garlic a month ago in a growing bag. Can anything be planted with it?
I got a variety pack of hard neck and soft neck to try and grow this year. I grew soft necks last year but I want to see if I can grow hard necks for the scapes. Being in Northern CA, it’s gets pretty hot quickly up here, so I’m hoping I’ll be successful in growing the hard necks.
Hi Amy - fun to experiment with different varieties. I've grown the hardneck before, it works, smaller cloves, but the scapes are gorgeous and fun to see the curliecues growing. Have fun in YOUR garden, that's what it's all about! Thanks for watching!

Question: what happens if you plant garlic in April in so cal?
What fertilizer did you use, NPK etc...?
How did the garlic turn out? We've grown garlic in containers but haven't tried these fabric ones.
Hiya Kim, i'm wanting to experiment with garlic to so I popped some that I bought from the store in the fridge roughly 3wks ago. Now....as you know here the Caribbean it's nothing but sun so i'm wondering how that will work out. Ordered the colored bags & excited for when they get here. New spot for garlics🙂
when I first started growing garlic the green scapes would emerge and in a video somewhere it said to cover them with straw or mulch of some kind so that’s what I did and every time the scapes got up above the mulch I added more mulch. I had probably 6 to 7 inches of mulch on top of the soil. I planted in November and all of the scapes have died. Is my garlic still growing? What should I do?
مشاركة جيدة👍 أستمتعت بالمشاهدة تكريما لعملك أتمنى لك التوفيق والنجاح حفظك الله ياصديق أبقى على أتصال عندى جديد
This sounds fun to me…I’m going to give it a try too and set up my pots this week…looking forward to my very own fresh garlic as well. As always “Thank you” both! Happy Holidays!
Put in the refrigerator or the freezer?
Thank you for showing me this! I live in Michigan, can I keep them outside as I grow them?
Yes, the challenge for southern growers is that there isn’t a period of cold for garlic 😊
If you're growing in a pot, what is the coldest you can grow? I live in northern New Mexico and this morning it was 5 degrees and getting colder. I'm wondering if I grow in a bucket, will the garlic be ok or will it freeze? Thank you.
That’s Celsius right? I get down into the single digits here in Fahrenheit and it does fine. Just mulch it.
Hi Enfin - yes, garlic will be just fine in cold temps, it actually likes the cold winter weather to grow large bulbs, that's one reason why we have a tough time getting large bulbs here in with our warm winter climate. Do mulch heavily, though, to protect it from the cold. You'll see the first green shoots in the spring as the weather warms up. Thanks for stopping by!

Hey, CK: Please share of what material your smart pots are made. One of the reasons I like to grow my own groceries is to avoid harmful substances like herbicides, pesticides & plastic. I want to avoid growing my groceries in plastic containers
Hi Aj, I hear ya, I feel the same way! You couldn't grow in a better material than Smart Pots - they are made from a proprietary geo-textile fabric especially designed for growing plants. Organic, BPA free, super durable (last 5-8+ years) 100% made in the USA (OK City). Roots air prune, so won't get root bound like they do in a plastic container. I've used them for many years and love how they grow my veggies! Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for your reply, CK: still puzzled: of what is the fabric made? coconut fiber? You say it's BPA free: is it BPA free plastic? thanks
👍😀
So glad you enjoyed it - appreciate the visit!
Is April to late to start Garlic?
The ideal time to plant garlic depends on your location and climate. In most regions, garlic is typically planted in the fall, usually between September and November. (Allowing the cloves to establish roots before winter sets in, and then sprout in the spring.
However, depending on your climate zone, you may still be able to plant garlic in April, especially if you're in a milder climate or if you're using a method like planting in containers or raised beds that offer some protection from extreme temperatures.
If you're in a colder climate, planting garlic in April might be too late for it to establish strong roots.
It's a good idea to check with your local gardening resources for specific recommendations tailored to your area. They can provide guidance based on your local climate and growing conditions. Hope this helps! Let me know what you learn! CK
@@CaliKim29 I am in so cal
Okay, good! We're getting there!!!!
Reread paragraph 2 above....is Southern California a milder (warmer) climate? Yes or No ?
Once you answer that ..continue reading paragraph 2 ...the part about what you should be planting them in. This question now falls to you...what will you be planting the garlic in?
Now you've researched your question (great job by the way) - is April too late for you to start Garlic?
@@CaliKim29 I will be planting in containers with Tomatoes, Peppers and Cucumber to keep squirrels way. They are my garden enemy.
Awesome!!! Sounds like you've got a great plan. And I hear you too on the garden enemy....with all the rain and warm weather...we're seeing more critters in the backyard/garden...right? Sounds exciting over there, Debbie! Good job!
Wait wait wait, mild winters in southern California, yet camera boy is complaining about 39 degree weather ? Which is it? Lol
