Thank you for making this video for us... I was planning to go at the top and was thinking to take this route but now after watching your video and your advise I have changed my mind..!!
Harry -- The stunning photos you took made the "Watkin Path" really worth it, not to mention the beautiful waterfalls en route. What troubles me is the descent. Going down, you feel as though you are going to fall, supported by the fact you can see how many hundreds of metres you can fall. If I made the ascent by the Watkin Path, I would choose an easier route down, eg, Miner's Track, Pyg Track ( as in pyg iron), or Llanberis Pass. Am I allowed to ask how old you are, as you seem so fit for a man above 60?
@@LaHayeSaint hi Thanks for watching and your comments. I really had no choice as far as a descent goes as my car was parked at the Watkin Path car park. Wasn’t too difficult a descent to be honest. Yes you are right I am no longer a young buck! I was 60 when I did this.
@@myselfbuildjourney1219 Harry -- I forgot -- If you come by car, you are obliged to return to the same car park. If however you were dropped off at one car park, the driver could have a pleasant day driving to a nearby town to do some shopping, and then on to the second car park for a pick up. Car parks fill early, so a pick up only is probably the best you could do, as the second car park is likely to be full..
@myselfbuildjourney1219 👋. There was athor option. You could have followed the Stert of the Rhyd Ddu path and gone down the South Ridge and turned left back into Cwm Lan and rejoined the Watkin path Lowe down. Brilliant stuff. Great video ❤❤❤, Jules 👍. I'm yet to do the 2nd half of the Watkin path. I did it years ago and turned left to the base of the South Ridge and went up Yr Aran many years ago. Then recently went up to the waterfalls before entering Cwm Lan, and went over the stone footbridge and up to Gallt Y Wenallt. 👍
Did the Watkins for the first time this weekend. Hard going, probably tougher than I'd expected, but very satisfying when completed. Came down via the South Ridge which I'd reccomend.
I’m going to Snowden next week but taking the easiest way of all, the train! At 67 I think I know my limits. Thank you for taking us with you on your adventure.
Love seeing these routes being done, I am more of a novice hiker so stuck to Pyg up Miners down. Gonna give Llanberis a go at some point. Hope youre enjoying up hill adventures now we are back in the Summer months 😊
That was a good video, I'm up on Mt Snowdon in a month's time , I was going to take the Watkins Path but now I'm well into my 60's I think I'll go for the more touristy route.
Yours is the second video I've seen covering this walk. On both occasions both have referred to it as the WATKINS Path. It is, in fact The WATKIN Path, named after Sir Edward Watkin. Having climbed it many times, the first time in 1960, apart from Crib Goch, it's my favourite path to Snowdon. I was fortunate to climb in a time before widespread erosion when the paths were lightly worn by the boots of not so many walkers.
Stunning video! You've captured the atmosphere of the WATKIN PATH to the summit of SNOWDON (or, more accurately YR WYDDFA) beautifully and without the irritatingly intrusive 'music' of so many videos.
Really nice video of your day on the Watkin path, its a really hard pull in places, but worth the effort. I always like the perspective from the bwlch looking across Lliwedd, so steep. I'm sure you had a well deserved pint back at base camp. Diolch.
Top video Harry; having just done this path; totally relate to that last scree path before the steps. Hard going but with it. Great narration and travel tips. Even a tune from The Boss. Liked and subbbed. ATB Mark.
Try the ranger path if you're looking for an easier route up. Great views over to Mynydd Mawr and the Nantlle Ridge and a less steep path up to the summit of Snowdon. The Rhyd Ddu path is also a great way up. Enjoyed your video btw
I was intrigued by your struggle on the Watkin Path if you've climbed to base camp at Everest ? I did the Watkin Path twice in June 2019, I was 75 yrs old. There were no steps, but scree towards the summit. Also, I find your comment re the "4000ft drops either side" whilst climbing Angels Landing in Zion Nat Park in Utah.. It must have grown since my hike up in 2002. The drop either side is 1000ft. Admittedly a very narrow ridge, so not for the faint hearted. It should be tackled first light before the crowds arrive. People do die on this ridge, but not as many as you have suggested. More people die in Grand Canyon every year, average 14, through various means, heat exhaustion, dehydration, foolhardness, wrong gear, suicide. I've hiked both rims since 1994, last time 2012, a total of five times, no exaggeration. I'm now 80 yrs old, so do know my facts from a lifetime of hikes in the US and UK.
Da iawn Harry! The Watkin Path flatters to decieve. Beautiful, incredible views, idyllic... Then it gets tough, then it gets tougher... Making the Summit feel like a real achievement. As it obviously felt for you. Diolch
Well, the summit is not quite the top ;) and it never took 5 mins on the last portion to get to where you were said was the top. still only 5 more mins from the building to the top ;) Well done, I did it a few weeks ago and it was a great walk!
Basically, I hiked up solo snowdon, never done it before by myself on the 2n Jan. And thats what I found, no clear path and the incline is insane, it was testing my mental ability and I really struggled. I took a osmond route up. I only made it to clawdd Coch 931m - because the icy ridge and fog was in and my energy didnt change the last 100m elevation. This relieves me to see that I wasnt insane and its crazy! haha dont recommend this route for the first time going up snowdon and your an inexperienced hiker. I started my hike 8:30am finsihed at 3pm
How much was ( and is ) breathing, an issue at this altitude ??? How much of an issue might it be for a physically fit person who hasn't been at such an altitude ??? Thanks.
Hi, Breathing is no problem. I seem a little breathless sometimes but this was during Covid and sure I was recovering from a bout of the illness. Peak is only 1085m so should not cause someone physically fit any problem...just that damn scree face !
Imagine being the brickies etc who put that building there. Maybe they got dropped off by helicopter, as imagine that work after a walk up and then the walk down.
Did this path on Saturday as a first time climber with no experience.. what a challenge but well worth it in the end.. great video
Quite a challenge indeed. Well done for doing it too.

Sorry this was meant for the post guy. ❤
You could have come back down the south ridge and back into cwm lan and back onto the watkin path ❤❤❤❤

I competed the watkin's path as my first ever mountain path, definitely feels like you have hiked a mountain.

not sure, because you would say, it is Edward Watkin's path, aka the Watkin's route.

Really enjoyed the video, I've never done the watkin path. Looks pretty amazing. Love the rendition of Bruce Springstien. Keep up the good work. 👍

Fabulous photography .... done the pyg up and miners down, but will be taking Watkins for the waterfall views soon. 👌

Liked the video, nice camera work. If the Watkin path is scary you should see Crib Goch on the other side !
Thanks! I actually did Crib Goch years ago...spent a lot of it on my bum!
Nice, thanks!
Fantastic video. Did the pyg track up and miners down last week, you've inspired me to do the watkin next 👊
Best vid I’ve seen on the Watkin path. Great camera work. Well done 🤘🏼
Hopefully doing it next month 🤞🏼
That looked gruelling….but worth it! Well done mate. 🤙🏼
It was! Thank for watching.
Done this yesterday in pouring rain and gale force wind. Was one hell of an experience and scary at times

I wouldn't have said the Watkin Path was the hardest
Grib croc..hardest scramble most of it ..
Crib Goch is a proper scramble. Watkin far more gruelling
@@daveroberts6791 The hardest part of Crib Goch is the climb from the Pyg Track, the rest is all in the mind!
Is it worth it.....yep

There's a train bro 😆

Watkin path*
Thanks! Changed it
