I did this ridge the last time in 2003, i was 68. I'd been given a lift by an old friend. The weather forcast was good for the day. Unfortunately on arrival, it got very windy. Being foolish, i carried on ! Back down the miners track. Never been so knackered. One month later,I hiked the North Rim of Grand Canyon, 16 miles down, camped by the river, out the next day. Now 80, only memories. Great watching your vid, thanks. Ps, pity you didn't do a shot up to Crib Goch from the Miners track, really gives it scale.
@RideBikes_Walkplaces many senior moments exist nowadays. My last trip across Crib Goch was in 2012 when I was 68 when i hiked the North Rim down, not 2003. In 2003 was an earlier hike down G Canyon. Since 1994, been down G C five times.
The facing down camera viewpoint “holy craps” with view of precipitous drops to each side perfectly matches my memory of being dragged up Crib Goch by my brother in law twenty years ago. I am not an experienced climber and suffice to say I froze half way and we had to take a path down before we ran out of daylight. Your video brings it all back, sweaty palms and all…
My son in law recently revealed that until recently he held the record for the fastest crossing of crib Goch. He basically runs it. But I could not do it. I have the utmost respect for everyone who does it!
@@brokenjet6134 hi there. I've asked my son in law, Alfie. Apparently there is nothing official in terms of records for crib goch. A few years ago he was one of a number of people using strava and comparing times. So his record was unofficial... and soon overtaken. I can well imagine him being very fast, but, more impressive to me, is that I know he would be very kind and helpful if he came across someone who was struggling. He's a good lad!
This is by far the best Crib Goch video I have watched, and I have watched so many trying to build up the courage to do it myself. I can safely say after watching this I may have to pass. A super well done, and thank you for taking us with you 😊
i salute you sir...i just did the miners track yesterday and i tell you it took the life out of me. What you just did you must of really pushed your courage and physical ability to the edge!! Respect! I know I COULD NOT DO CRIB GOCH
I reckon you started the knife edge proper at 16.00 mins and finished at 44.00 mins. 28 minutes of concentrated effort, physical and mental. For me, hoping to do this sometime soon , that is useful information. There is of course the scramble up to the ridge, a rise from where you leave the Pyg Track of 350 metres which is tough enough. Congratulations and respect to you. Enjoyed your vid
Sweaty palms on that one. Don't know if it is better to have clear conditions to see or better to have it cloudy and not! First time watching. New sub. Best wishes on the next.
I had to chuckle when you reached the “bad step”. I said something a little more pithy. I didn’t take the lower route that you took, it looked too dangerous, I went over the lump instead.
Could not do it, I've been holding a pillow and biting my nails praying nothing goes wrong and that you DO NOT fall off. Obviously it went well, because you posted the video. I'm too scared of heights to attempt something that high. A couple of hundred feet is doable with meadow or banks at the sides of the walk...but this, shit no! I would never go up there. I'd freeze and panic. 🙃Think you did amazing to do this if you were scared of heights, but for me THIS a massive NO! C Goch, help yourself, I'll be sticking with the PYG track cheers!🤣
Amazing who ever did this first and decided it actually was a route up Snowdon ! Great video. Best I’ve seen. Brave bloke especially on your own . I’ve been up to the ridge in bad weather most people were coming back down me included! Not even sure I’d want to do it no looking at that 😂😂
I have to say once up there is not as bad as it looks obviously is a bit more difficult if suffering with highs, there are one or two parts but overall is a good route
Nice vid. You seem to be on your own. What time of year?, usually in good weather there is que to do this route, now days. I have done the horseshoe a couple of times, but in my day not as busy as today.
It was mid June on a Monday, I set off from the car about 6:30, on the ridge for 7:30. I was on my own, other people were about 20 minutes behind me. Hit Snowdon summit just before the crowds turned up, I think I just timed it well that day
How long did it take to cross from the car park over Crib Goch to Snowdon? Was it 1 hour or 5 hours etc? Trying to plan a route and wondering how long it will take.
@@johnhughes1704 this is a case of Google picking out a blog article that has incorrectly reported that. The true stat is 8-10 deaths across the entire Eryri National Park annually, some of those may be on Crib Goch.
So 1/2500 chance you don’t come home … that’s about the same risk you get killed in a car accident within the next seven years. Which is quite a high risk for an afternoons work.
Although you're not randomly selected for a plummety death. By accumulating a reasonable amount of experience before attempting it you can do a lot to minimise the personal risk. After seeing some of the other folk attempting exposed scrambles you start to wonder how so few people actually come to grief!

I think your maths is a bit off! We're you 58 in 2003?
i did it in my mid 70s with 2 80yr olds. We all enjoyed it.

Hey could you give me the record time or link to it. I cant find anything about the speed crossing crib goch record anywhere. Many thanks
@@brokenjet6134 No problem, I'll ask him. It may be a few days, but if you don't hear back from me do remind me. Cheers.

Just do it, but make sure it’s a dry calm day.
Thanks for the complement mate
I did this 40 years ago with my Dear old Dad. We had a white out.luckily he knew his way.

That has to be the most serious grade 1 scramble in the world!

At 37:13 we went up and over that thing. Getting down the back side of it with that exposure was fkin terrifying haha

“Holy crap! That’s a long way down” 😂
Just subbed, I love all of this stuff but hats off to you sending it on this tough terrain, a few nervous exposed situations 😳
your commentary had me in stiches! I thought many of the same thoughts on the way up for sure haha! great video.
At one point Dad pointed out where the train went off at Cloggy.

Great video and views. Cheers from Norway 👍🙂
Loved the fart… nice touch 👍🏼
i have just had my heart in my mouth the whole time i watched this brilliant, and no im never doing it.
Respect mate! Perfect conditions too. I've been dying to do this but the thing that puts me off is crowds of people. You had the ridge to yourself!
No one to see you fall?
wow followed your every step what an achievement well done you'll never forget this day 👏👏👏
I did it last weekend and i think i swore more than you. its exhilarating to say the least! 😱
I try not to swear on my videos but I think this time I can be let off the hook 😂
Well done really enjoyed watching it
Thanks mate, I really enjoyed doing it
A colony of mice live on the crest seemingly existing on scraps of food dropped by walkers.

Cameras always make it look a LOT worse than it really is.
Great journey! Can I ask how you filmed this? The view point seems quite close to the ground as you climb, which is really effective.
I used a GoPro clipped to my chest bag, with a Max Lens mod, my beard got in the way a bit at one point 😂
Very brave climb

epic mate. no ads. no bs
Yeah Sean it’s called a scramble coz you need to be on all fours. It’s not a leisurely walk.
Good work man, very impressive
Done it twice, mad isn't it

fair play to you. I would 100% shit my pants at the top
Is that not the Llanberis route? Looks familiar.
Amazing. What cam did you use ?
Is that channel name a nod to Pink Floyd?
It is indeed 😊

Took me about 3 1/2 hours, taking it nice and easy from the car to the summit

How many people get stuck or fall off that each year?
Average of 8-10 deaths per year
*with 25000 attempting it

Great video mate, I'm thinking of doing it first time soon, is their many loose rocks on the ridge
There’s a small few, just check each one before committing to putting all your weight on it, you’ll be fine.
