Threats were a pretty good design. But I think units with traits can also be threats - annie, for example, is kind of a "threat", as her traits dont really do much. But getting the balance right seems much more difficult. I think 5-cost threats werent great, though. 3 cost threats filled a job - either temporary or full time. 4 cost threats also filled a job - oftentimes full time, but not always - but were also great carries to play around if you got the items for them, but no other unit that'd fit into your comp with these items. 5 costs, though... they just felt borderline mandatory on lategame boards.
Threats are great. The problem with set 8 threats, imo, was solely fiddlesticks. Getting level 9 and losing synergies to just throw in two fiddles every game felt weird.
The Set 8 learnings article *did* say they want to try to include at least one Threat-like unit per set that you can just throw into any comp for utility so it’s not like the idea is permagone. Like, Set 9 Heimerdinger, Set 10 Yorick/Kayn/Qiyana, and Set 11 Lissandra/Hwei/Ornn/Irelia all come to mind as units that, while they certainly benefit from traits being active, you weren’t complaining if you found one early/needed certain utility to just splash in. It’s not exactly the same but it’s something?
As true as this is, you pretty much just named a bunch of 5 costs. Threats have h the advantage of being lower cost units as well to splash in.@@CaprielleHarmony
i was only a little diamond player when threat were there season 8, now that i have the gm level, i wonder how threats works in high elo and how fun and flexible it must be
Hero augments is nice but not in set 8 IMO, because it forces you to pick hero augments and sometimes the hero augments was the units that wasn't even fit your board so you scrap your board for that and it was awful
The idea is cool but the prospect of designing every single unit around potentially having every single trait sounds like a balancing and implementation nightmare Remember Set 7 where having a single emblem on certain champions would completely win you the game with little resistance? (Assassin Olaf, Draginmancer Nunu, and Revel Dae’ja come to mind.) Let’s not do that again please.
@@ihavecrabs56 you can't design every champ to be balanced with every trait without making the units or traits super bland. Or the balance just turns into a nightmare kind of like pengus party
They were champions that didn't necessarily have a trait. They were individually strong units (just generally stronger skills than normal units) but didn't get a trait bonus to make them stronger scaling with a team
They're units with zero traits(other than Threat) that are stronger than a normal unit. Previously, there were only 3,4, and 5 cost threats, but they might add 1 and 2 costs next time they come back.
old trait that basically isnt a trait. any threat champion is just stronger, but has no traits. splashable in any comp, either as a carry or as utility. mort explains at the end
Used to be a mechanic where the champion didn't have class or origin and was generally stronger than other units, but also a little weaker when the other units had it's class or origin
Essentially 'traitless' units that have a very specific purpose and were stronger than other units of their cost. I.e rammus was a giga giga tank, morg was shred, etc. They were from the hero aug set so they also each had a hero aug associated. Good bailout units if you failed a roll down. If they revert bag sizes then it might be good to bring them back. Else you are going to end up with lots of contested comps holding 6 2/3 costs holding hands in diamond/emerald. Or maybe good for now to mitigate the bad bag size thing. Dunno. Pros and cons.
Also they had bigger stats compared to traited units, more hp, more attack and/or ap.
i mean they kind of have to be to compensate for no trait buff
I love Threats. Rammus highroller dice go brr

i just want a new set. Nothing wrong with this one, just kinda over it if I'm being real. I enjoy the goofier sets more so than sets like this.
Threats are great. The problem with set 8 threats, imo, was solely fiddlesticks. Getting level 9 and losing synergies to just throw in two fiddles every game felt weird.
The first set I ever played, Threats were such a cool concept to me
Threats should be in every set, flexing asol as AP carry and belveth as AD carry into anything uncontested was mad fun. Sad they didn't stick around.
asol threat was amazing
Honestly every set needs Threats
no
I loved threats but if it was in every set i think it would get old, but yeah more than 0 would be nice

Rammus is back right ? Please Mort release the guy
Pre nerf Vel'Koz might be my favorite unit ever. That champ was maybe the most broken 3 cost ever
Did mort just say that he is glad that rammus exist
i was only a little diamond player when threat were there season 8, now that i have the gm level, i wonder how threats works in high elo and how fun and flexible it must be
Just put in two 2Star Velkoz melting and stunning down the backline :D
Only one best thing from set EIF were recon Kasia threats, hope to see it back Prayge
was ny fav set even hero augments were really fun
@@yungmansour9638 That was last set I truly enjoyed
Threats are fun and balanced as long as they arent BIS you can randomly slot in
Urgot threat was the only ever 3-star 5-cost I've ever hit in ranked so I'm biased but I can't wait to have them back
Morgana reroll was my favorite comp of set 8
Heart Aatrox was my favorite thing to spam with sona carry :)
miss Aatrox and Asol these 2 were a 2 man army
I really enjoyed threats, hero augments, and chosen mechanics.

I would love for Dragons to come back, they were my favourite part of Set 7/7.5
imagine an entire set with no traits and only threats. and we have to pick what "traits" we want like pengus party instead
That sounds terrible

Urgot and Fiddlesticks were great 5-cost threats, miss them anyway
Maaaaaan threats fiddlesticks was one of my favorite champs super cool 5 cost
Threat + heavenly would've been fun.
can someone please explain threat to me? only played since set 10 ❤
Threats best thing ever
I hope aurelion sol will be a threat again
Praising Rammus Susge . What did you do to Mort?
I want threats so badly please if set 8 (Not 8.5 i kinda hated that tbh) comes back for a little while i would play the shit out of it.
BEEG. CHOG. ❤
Velkoz ptsd
Instead fix the bag sizes
I hated threats.... I want chosen back
Loaded dice when
Probably never, they just hate fun 😮💨
lowk all the threats sucked except for ramus and chogath
If you are gold and only look at build guides at tft sites then yes
The fk are you smoking? Fiddle urgot are bad?
there was literally a comp with all the threats in it (belveth, aatrox duo carry) and it did well iirc
Velkozz dicked so hard when he became the meta of the week wdym
@@timurnakamur even then, rfc bel veth was a meta comp
Please no bro I hated set 8 i legit refused to play the set because it felt so bad
Crazy idea but maybe they can make a set that has threats and have it not be set 8?
