One thing I hate about the normal task bar is you cannot tell Windows to give you icons, but not combine them. The lack of choice in this OS whilst not having a satisfying default drives me nuts.
I love watching videos that make me happy about being a Linux user. Watched/listened to the whole thing. 💥 11:50 - "Run new command and type 'explorer'." I see things haven't changed since I left Windows. Fantastic.
I've still not upgraded to Windows 11 for this and a few other reasons. It is Exhausting trying to restore functionality they have removed, being such an anti-user company. Like you, I need to use it for several reasons but each day, each week, each year that passes I get closer to closing the door on Microsoft
Same, I'll probably make the switch to W11 by end of year as my W10 install is quite old & bogged down... W11 on my laptop has been fine or just a more frustrating ver. of 10.... Getting closer & closer to Linux on everything:3
You upgrade to Windows 10 which BTW was supposed to be the final version, from 8 probably and now if you want to upgrade and you must because W10 end of life approaching, to W11 your hardware isn't compatible with W11. Nuts! Which idiot made this up?
Actually, even if Microsoft sincerely intends to follow the feedback through the tracking and feedback features about what parts of Windows people use, that could lead to a huge bias. I'd assume that all the techier users tend to switch off all such tracking/feedback features, leading to Microsoft getting feedback mostly from users who struggle with the most basic tasks. I think that could be one of the causes for the dumbing-down of Windows in the recent years.
I've said this before.. I updated once to Win 11, and within 5 minutes reverted back to WIn 10, Why? Because I couldn't make the Task Bar Small... Any other reason? Nope.. That's 100% why I still use WIn 10. All I want is Win 10, but next year I have no choice.. Which means I'll go to Linux Mint (Already have my customers, and dad on it) however, I'll have to more than likely change my hardware around to do this.. (FTW3 1080Ti, Corsair XT Fan+RGB Hub, Corsair Mouse, Corsair Virtuoso XT, Corsair Dominator RAM, ASUS Z490I.. etc etc) I don't imagine these parts are going to get along with Linux.. AT ALL, and as much as I love the idea of Linux I don't want to completely change my hardware for it.. SO, when I'm told that Win 11 has the ability to change the Taskbar size I'll give it a shot, but until then.. No way in hell I'm touching that garbage O.S. May not be a popular opinion, but Win 10 has been my favorite O.S, by a long shot.. Going to be rough to see it go..
Try 'Windhawk'. I've been using that since going to win 11. Tons of changes available including task bar sizing...under 'task bar height and icon size'
There's always windows IoT enterprise ltsc which gets updates till '31. Not sure how much functionality it'll have till then but I noticed alot of people talking about it on YT lately, perhaps that'll be a good choice till you get comfortable using Linux! Just trying to help is all
Why did they remove the option to change the size of the taskbar? I just can't understand it. But it doesn't matter because I left Windows in 2017 and never used it again.
I like Explorer Patcher (EP) but my system got so fubar'd after a Windows update that I was left with no choice but to do a complete format and reinstall of the OS and abandon EP altogether. Since then I paid a few bucks for Start11 and haven't had any problems with conflicts between that and Windows updates the past few years. Although, I'm still in no hurry to update to 24H2 all the same.
Question for the community. I am curious about why folks use linux/windows nowadays. I am no longer in school to use linux, I have a corporate job which uses cloud services (everything on browser). All I need my computer to do is edit videos, play games, light coding for personal projects, and general browsing. From my computing needs, I would only need Windows if I need to play AAA games, but I don't have the time nowadays. So now, although I am OS agnostic, I am on a Mac and I don't see a reason to use other systems for what I need. (I only use laptops, and Apple M chips and just unmatched) In fact, other than video editing, I feel like I can use mobile OS's to get everything done (I love Android) So what are your use cases for Windows or Linux? (other than games, privacy, or that it is cheaper than Mac) I especially want to hear from tech admins & such
As always, I enjoy these type of videos that show what windows from Microsoft has became and will continue to be until their market share drops below 50% for desk top operating systems. It is also nice that I have been running a Linux distro full time for the last 3 to 4 years now, and have never had the need to look back sense...
The most important option is ability to move taskbar to the right (or the left). You should always include information, whether it is possible to move it there... :) As to the context menu - for me the worst part it doesn't run at native speed. It looks like some overlay or something.
I had some very rude thing to say about Windows. Instead I'll just say this is a good and helpful video, and everyone should switch to a free open source operating system ;)
The one thing I REALLY miss in Windows 11 is the File Explorer. New one scxks. I found a workaround - launch Control Panel and hit the "up" button, you somehow get the old / good Explorer. WHY did they screw with this?
The more of these stupid things MS implements in W11, the less reason for me to upgrade. I'm still using W10 and I do not want W11 on my machine. I'm curious what the majority of people next year are gonna do who have a non TPM-Compatible machine and MS basically forces people to spend actual money on new hardware. Kind of really hoping for a healthy boost for the Linux community. I'm definitely considering switching to Manjaro or Mint fulltime at this point.
Use something else besides Manjaro, they've been known to cause issues, like holding packages back, breaking firefox and telling users to fix it themselves. If you want something gaming ready, I suggest, Nobara or Pop!_OS, but keep an eye for Pika OS it seems to be an interesting distro in the coming
If you know how and care enough to do something like this, then you know how to do some basic vetting for viruses. The people that would go through all that effort to end up allowing a virus don't care about the changes to W11 anyhow.
I have EP on all 4 machines, I had to add exceptions to Windows Defender and the other virus software I use, and these's no issues downloading or installing EP, all is good, couldn't live without it Latest version 66.7
1:00 The Windows subreddit says that whokeys are not legitimate OEM keys. Supposedly they are from MSDN/Academic/MAPS/BizSpark type channels. On Linux, if the developers of the desktop environment (DE) you use make a change you really hate, you can actually just switch to any other alternative, or even an older version.
