The Chasm is Dissection without Jon's world-class songwriting. The riffs are all killer, but strung together in a way that makes them sound like one long intro to a song that never begins.
For me the most memorable release was Kreator Violent Revolution . I bought the CD from Saturn store in Vienna MariaHilffer Strasse. For 0.89 cents. Brand new . I still have that cd with its original price sticker.
Great show as always digging into the collection I didn't realise just how many albums I have from this year that's always the good things about these year in metal shows it always prompts you to dig stuff out for a spin!
Some albums I would mention are Amon Amarth - The Crusher, Dragonlord - Rapture, Grand Magus - Grand Magus, Nightside - The End Of Christianity and Psycroptic - The Isle Of Disenchantment. Some great EPs from 1349, Agalloch, Mastodon and Pelican as well.
In 2001 I was 15 and was really digging Dimmu's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. Also alot of Nin, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Opeth, Arch Enemy, and a ton of others. I was constantly blind buying and trading with a few good shops in town.
2001 is an interesting year. There are definitely killer metal albums but even with me being into some nu metal and alternative metal there isn't a lot that immediately jumps out as a favorite from this year. Here a few standouts for me from this year. 1. Thy Catafalque - Microcosmos (avant-garde black metal) 2. Slipknot - Iowa (nu metal/groove metal) 3. System of a Down - Toxicity (alternative metal/nu metal) 4. Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame (atmospheric black metal) 5. Windir - 1184 (melodic black metal/Viking metal/folk metal)
Horror Show is my favorite Iced Earth album. Richard Christy's drumming on it is wild.

I remember buying CDs from the Virgin Megastore in the same street. Silenius of Abigor used to work there.

That Mournblade record is awesome, thanks for the recommendation!

Alan is legit from bringing up W.A.S.P’s “Unholy Terror”. One of the most underrated late period albums.
They did an album review video on it around 2 years ago.

IMAGINE
Kreator-Cause For Conflict is the last good Kreator album. The rest is crap.
Joe Cangelosi's drumming crushes on Cause for Conflict.
This is going to help me get some solid rest tonight
