The conversation about book bans in schools has hit a fever pitch, and there are worries that the same pressures to ban books are now spreading to public libraries too. Book bans often come from parent or community complaints. But who actually has the power to restrict books? To get to the heart of one of America’s growing culture wars, Nadine Farid Johnson, the Managing Director of PEN America Washington and Free Expressions Programs, joins the 5 Things podcast to describe what's at stake in this fight.

Censorship is unAmerican. If you don’t want your child to read a topic or a particular book, then don’t let them. But stop trying to ban books for everyone. That is abuse of freedom of speech.
No one person has the right to ban books for everyone; ban them for yourself, your family, and leave the rest of us alone!

Cancellation of any books should be prohibited.
It's is the beginning of dictatorship and annihilation of any proper debate on history, mistakes that could be avoided but most importantly general knowledge.

Access to porn is banned for children. She saying children who have been molested may want to share an experience they have shared in the books they are reading and it should be available to everyone? Books for children provide illustrations.

You can read anything you want. Kids should be directed by their parents without interference. How hard is that? Not very.

Is it for adults or children should be the only ban.
    Age restrictions, not bans.

It appears American parents aren’t allowed the freedom to have a say in their child’s school education.

(Well they should be teaching safe gun use in school right after drivers Ed) If anything can be accessed on the internet why are you worried about restricting some materials in schools? Why are you scared of parental involvement in school teachings?
