The big disadvantage of the new buses is the air conditioning - it's appallingly awful. And all but about 3 of the windows are sealed shut so with even the slightest rise in temperature, you will bake. Especially on the top deck. The old RMs had a much better, easier & eco-friendly solution. No air-con, but the front windows on both decks opened to a 4 inch gap. As the bus moved along, constant throughput of fresh air, at no additional cost. Can't remember ever being too hot on an RM.
@@josefstalin9068 There are not enough hot days in a year in the UK to make it cost-effective to run air-con on buses at all. It's just plain wasteful. All we need is some windows which can be opened!
@@decodolly1535 See, that's why you just turn off the aircon when not using it. Our buses can also just open windows instead. But then again, if you're buying a bus new to begin with then I'm not too certain cost effectiveness is truly a concern.
@@decodolly1535 That's not true at all. The air conditioning on hybrid vehicles is usually variable speed, so it provides demisting at low temperatures, and at moderate temperatures it can provide a low level of cooling. It's not wasteful at all, whereas opening windows creates noise and adds drag.
The government needs to make a thing, where you use an app to find the nearest bus. You get on, use your app to notify everyone you are now using this bus and then drive it to wherever you need to go. Then you get off, use your app to let people know the bus is now free and someone else takes over. It'd be like being a bus driver, but only going where you want to go and none of that pesky schedule nonsense! I'm a part-time bus driver and I'd love using one of our Citaro buses as a personal vehicle. It's very roomy, more than enough space for your shopping and luggage, it can fit your family and friends (even more so for double deckers and articulated buses), so no confusing situations where you take a left turn and your friends take a right turn and you look for each other for an hour. It's comfortable with it's automatic gearbox, air suspension and suspension seat and it's fun to drive. And as an added bonus - it's the only vehicle that bicyclists are afraid to cut off! The only downsides are - not easy to park, normal buses are about 3-4 times longer than the average car. Articulated buses are best parked forwards, without having to drive backwards. Second downside - Bus licenses are expensive.
Isn't that like charter buses? You lease a bus from the company, get where you want to go, and another person takes it over. Only thing that's missing is not being able to drive your own bus
Nope. This is NOT a new Routemaster. It's an off-the-shelf standard bus with an extra staircase bolted on the back. Even that bit about the moquette is silly if you have ever seen the design on Routemaster seats. Not to mention that they stopped making the version with the rear platform a few years after they started making the things, partly because of the stupid door design that could crush you if you were standing in the wrong place when it closed, not to mention that the local authorities decided that the rear door had to be closed at certain times anyway. An appalling design and a waste of public money to boot.

This is the most James May thing ever: taking a bus on a track.
that's a train.
This would be ideal for a government subsidized ride sharing scheme.
But, that's communism!
Londons one are it's the other ones which aren't
every aerial shot of the bus has a long queue of cars behind it!!!! xD
It ain't exactly a speedemon innit? Lol
It's all staged.

Interesting to know, I personally have never been on one so I don't know how it feels like.
That’s why you should get a bus from a warmer area - buses in the states are usually chilly as hell in summer.

Looks like Jeremy's influence rubbed off to him

Yes
The new car for Somerset... Despite the fact about 90% of this film was shot in Wiltshire! Lol. XD
You could always turn it into a caravan. Lot of space to live in.
Best vehicle for captain slow 😌
Now try a preserved 1932 London double decker. Apparently they are quite sporty.
Those are probably in the museum or the junkyard by now.
