I’m 15 and never did this before and I watched this, made it as instructed, and it was great! Thanks!
Oh, I'm so glad that it turned out for you! Thanks so much for your kind comment and for watching!
@@ElainesCountryHome yeah no problem
As someone cooking cod for the first time, thank you!
I'm glad that I could help. Thank you so much for watching!
Been making this recipe for a couple years now. Always come back to make sure I get the temp & timing down as I have the memory of a hamster 😅
Hands down the easiest baked COD recipe on the internet. Delicious.
Add bacon fat/bacon pieces to Green Beans to excite the meal a little, lol.
Thank you so much, @ElainesCountryHome
I'm so glad that you enjoy this recipe. I agree, I always add bacon grease to my green beans and then cook the liquid down until they're almost dry. It gets rid of that canned taste and adds so much flavor. Thank you so much for your kind comment and for watching!
A nice Greek salad would pair very good with this dish and I probably would have a dark red wine instead of sweet tea.
Thank you for this nice simple but delicious recipe. I especially loved your secret about the canned string beans putting a little bacon grease in there and cooking them down until the water almost evaporates. That is such a good ole simple recipe.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I hope you'll try my recipe and cooking green beans the old-fashioned way. Cooking them all the way down seems to help them taste more like fresh. I learned that from my mom, she always did hers that way. I'm so happy that you stopped by!
This would be a great recipe for burbot as well just watching this video. Thank you for the content.
Love Old Bay!
I like your method of dipping the cod in the butter. I usually pour butter on top, and it feels like I'm missing the bottom side. Thanks for the tip!😊
You're very welcome! Have a wonderful night, thanks for watching!
This looks absolutely wonderful ! And so easy to prepare 😋
Thank you! This dish was inspired by a similar one that I used to order at a restaurant some years ago. I always loved it. Thank you for your kind comment and I'm so happy that you stopped by!

@@ElainesCountryHome I'm making dinner for my wife tonight and I'm soon to be in the process of baking some cod in the toaster oven. I'm looking for some of that breading that you just mentioned. I've seen it around before.
Green beans do go well with baked fish. I saved some melted butter for those too. Thanks.
Sounds great! Thanks so much for stopping by!
I love this recipe as it's not work intensive and anything with butter and panko can't be beat. Thanks so much for posting this. I have some wild cod frozen now that I need to eat. I just wonder if baking at 400 would be better and fewer minutes. I buy uncooked meals from the grocery store and they always say to bake at 400 for salmon fillets.
Hey there Daniel! Since oven temps vary, use your own judgement. My oven tends to be a little on the hot side, so I use 375 and it works well. It also depends on the thickness of your fillets, so if yours are thinner, you could definitely reduce the baking time. Thanks so much for watching!
I think 400 works better. Did it at 375, took me also about 40 minutes, but a very simple recipe. I don't like a whole lot of different flavors infused into my meals, so this was perfect!
Looks tasty , id add alot more spice & some fresh lemon as well , but the bread crumbs is great for texture , thanks ! 👌🏽😋
Sounds great! I would love a lot more spice, but unfortunately, my husband can't handle a lot of spice, so I have to be careful. Thanks so much for watching, have a wonderful day!
@@ElainesCountryHome Oh sure , then of course keep it light & still tasty & you're welcome ✌🏽☺️
We have the same plates! Grew up with those
I love those plates, lol! They're the lunch size plates, so they work out perfect for me. They're small, so I can't overfill them. I only have four of those that I bought at a thrift store. I'll get some more when I can find them. Thanks so much for watching!
@@ElainesCountryHome thank you! I need to work on that type of portion control, myself. I definitely had to go with your recipe after seeing my plates!! thank you and have a good day. thank you for this video
@@megajames3000 I need to get back on track myself, lol. My pecan crusted salmon video is also a very good recipe for watching your weight. Have a great day and thanks for watching!
@@megajames3000 You're very welcome, enjoy!
How about a plate for me …. House guest !! 😄
Tastes nice I'm sure. I would make it keto friendly by deleting the breadcrumbs. I really like you using up all the butter and doing the beans in bacon fat. Butter and bacon fat, gotta be good.
Thank you, Mark! I'm glad that you stopped by!
I am baking in a convection oven. What temp do I cook it till? Thank you
A convection oven is going to run about 25 to 30 degrees hotter than a conventional oven. You would probably want to bake these at 345 to 350 degrees in a convection oven. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching!
Needed a simple Cod recipe. First time on Cod. My go-to is Salmon, but today we have a picky eater who thinks salmon is too strong.
I hope you'll try this recipe, it's really delicious. If your filets are thinner than mine, you may not have to cook it as long. Use your own judgement. Thanks so much for stopping by!
@@ElainesCountryHome success! You are right. Simple and good and quick. Will do it again! Even the picky eater liked it.

How long did you leave them out to thaw?
Hey there Carley. Depending on the size and thickness of your fillets, it will take about 2 to 4 hours. I usually just put them in the sink and keep checking on them. When they're thawed, I put them in the refrigerator until I'm ready to cook them. They can also thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Hope this helps.
How long did it take you to prepare the pan with tin foil?
@@fishpiana890 I sprayed the pan with cooking spray, so it couldn't have taken more than a second or so. I'm sorry, I should have said so in the video. This was one of my earlier videos and I was learning (still am, lol). Thanks for watching.
What temperature in oven??
You preheat the oven to 375 degrees, as shown in the video. Thanks so much for watching.
@@ElainesCountryHome Oh ok . I guess I missed that part & thanks so much 👌🏽
😲🧐😳..ill be right over🤭👍
I’m guessing the oven temperature is around 400 degrees.
No guess work needed, it's 375 degrees as stated in the video (3:40) and in the description below the video. Thanks for stopping by.
@@ElainesCountryHome I'm sorry, just making sure... Did you say cook the fish for 30 minutes? Thanks
@@christinajoselyn7941 Yes, depending on the thickness of your pieces. The pieces we have are pretty thick, so it does take a little longer. You could also butterfly the fillets to reduce cooking time. Thank you for watching!
I do my oven cod at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes max. 30 minutes for cod even at 375 means overcooked to me. I don't like dried out fish.
Hank, these pieces were very thick and I don't like underdone fish that's still jelly-like inside. They flaked easily with a fork and they weren't the slightest bit dry. Had they had been thinner pieces, you're right, only about 10 minutes or so. Thanks for watching.
@@ElainesCountryHome I'm not critical, do what works for you, been fishing and cooking for over 60 years , I like my steak mooing too.
I would cook the cod at 450. At least 400. It should make the fish moister and the pinko crispier.
Oven temperatures vary and mine tends to run a bit on the hot side making it necessary to reduce the temperature in some recipes. In this particular recipe, if I have my oven that high when it's golden and crispy outside, the inside won't be cooked through. You should always adjust your temperature to what works best in your particular oven. Thanks for watching.
I noticed you only season the top part of the fish. Why not season both sides? Thanks for sharing
It's just the way we prefer it. If I were to season the bottom and the top, it would very likely be too much seasoning for our tastes. Thanks for watching.
wow that would be way too salty for me, Old Bay already has salt and pepper in it but other than that very good
It's actually not as much salt as it looks like because the shaker doesn't pour that freely. The salt is to taste anyway, so if you didn't want to add any at all or a little or a lot that would be up to the individual. Thanks for watching.
I have to have lots lemon with my fish 😏
You can definitely add lemon to this, if you'd like. We don't particularly care for lemon, ourselves. Thanks for watching!
WOW! I just watched 5 videos on baked cod and they all had it cooking for 8 to 15 minutes. Why is yours cooking 30 to 35 minutes when yours is somewhat thin. I like what you have on the cod but I think I'll pass on the 30 to 35 minutes.
Hey there, Trish. There were a couple of reasons why I did these as long as I did, the first being that they were not thin pieces. They were thick enough that it altered the cooking time. Had they had been thinner, 8 to 15 would have worked just fine. The second reason is that my husband and I both want our fish done through and not tough and jelly-like when we take a bite. In order to get it done through at the thickness that these pieces were, it did take that long. The fillets were not dry at all and were done perfectly, as it showed at the end of the video. Thank you for watching.
I thought you said you was cooking Cod but you did said catfish
??? I didn't hear any place where I'd said catfish. Only cod fillets. Thanks for watching.
Close-up would have been nice.
Probably so. This was one of my earlier videos and I was (and still am) learning. Thanks for watching.
I do not want lemon on any fish! That is like pickles on a burger, lemon or pickle is all you taste!
canned green beans ? no thanks
Nothing wrong with canned green beans if you fix them right. Thanks for watching.
A novice here but 35-40 minutes - usually I read recipes 10-12 minutes for filets, also salmon steaks!
The pieces that I have are very thick and we like our fish well done and the bread crumb topping golden and crispy. If you cook these for less time, the fish is underdone and jelly-like and the crumbs will be soggy. Of course, you can butterfly the pieces and it would cut down on the cooking time. You can see how they turn out at the end of the video, they're not dry at all and the topping is golden and crispy. Thank you for watching.
@@ElainesCountryHome Thanks! Yeah, with the breadcrumbs I can see a longer time to get crispy....
@@mjw12345 Thanks, have a great weekend!
